  1. I believe the good old Quid may reach 60 to the Baht !

No, I don't think I'm crazy but as so many above hve stated our economy is not doing that badly and my rather expensive accountants tell me that the Baht will weaken due to reduced exports of such as rice and prawns due higher production costs, I am told we can expect Quid to Euro to be around 1.50 rather sooner than we might expect, so DONT go changing all your quids just yet!

  2. Indeed Air Asia X are falling off London and Paris routes, couple this with Qantas dropping BKK London and BA dropping BKK Sydney, Air France cutting BKK Paris to three a week and you start to get the picture. As a professional in this industry it is clear now that the Gulf Carriers like Qatar, Oman, Etihad and Emirates are the way to go to Europe. I feel really sorry for you Australians affected but there is a going to be a massive drop in seat availability to Aus which will lead to even higher prices.

  3. This is I am afraid the typical stuff coming from this source, mistakes and in part ill thought out, and I agree it is too long and the original should (maybe was?) submitted in Thai?? Glaring omission to me is the inability of a foreigner to own land, even just the one Rai that has so many times been talked about. We dont all live in condos Mr Noyes. Waste of effort I reckon

  4. It's the way they did it that sums this mafia up.

Yingluck sneaks off to Singburi and states that "Oh it's dark now, my helicopter can't fly in the dark because it has no radar so I can't return for my cabinet meeting"

Army says "of course that model has radar and so does the other helicopter that is on standby"

Chalerm the magnificent holds the meeting kicking out all but a select few cronies. Meeting is "secret" - well all know why. Meeting agrees to this amnestty.

When cabinet is asked about the meeting the outcome is silence, no comment or Plodprasop "I can't say, it's a secret"

Yingluck, when asked, says "Don't ask me what they did - I wasn't there"

    Absolute disgrace.

Would you go in a Thai helicopter based on recent performances? I wouldn't!!

  5. Saw a truck with Singha water the other day, completely full.

In my 7/11 they have Chang or Cheers (red can). No water, plenty of juices and other crap.

Last week in Pattaya I could not find a case of small Leo anywhere. Ended up buying large Leo in Big C (ex Carrefour) which was the only beer they had in cases.

I heard several rumours about bar owners starting to run short so if it takes a while to get stocks back there could be problems with supposed high season starting...

Theysure have, and they are not shy about sticking the prices up too!!

FRAMED Russian conductor at the moment seems more likely!

  7. Why is it always the Aussies and Brit who come to center stage here in Thailand for being just plain stupid.

Yesterdays OTHER main English language newspaper had a mention of a Pattaya based English guy inciting various things around central World before the arson attack and is also on YouTube, anyone have any more info on this??

  8. In my daily business I have found out that the VFS in Bangkok together with the british Embassy has now been shut for 2 days. Does anyone know WHY? It is not as far as I am aware in a "threatened" area but it is costing money for unuseable air tickets and immense stress for those wishing to take their wives/gf on holiday!! Any views/news appreciated

  9. It seems totally pointless to keep seeking money for "stimuation" of tourists. The images and news stories that foriegners see (for free) on the evening news will have far more impact that any money spent on a stimulous. Until the situation unfolds and stability returns these various stimulous packages are almost a waste of time.

    Spot on.

The only people that will come to Thailand for a holiday right now are the regulars, though I suppose as hotel and airline prices plummet there could be a few bargain hunters taking the risk.

Fortunately it's low season (for those of us in tourist related businesses).

Any budget for the TAT should be withheld until after the troubles are over and things are back to normal, whenever hat may be.

Fair to say that if the tourists are stopped from coming by their governments it reduces the cost and enormous task of repatriating them in a hurry when this becomes necessary, as it surely will based on what's going on right now. Not wishing to be alarmist but it hasn't started yet!

  10. Check out the guys (the walking art gallery) left hand in the photo...that pose will stand him well in the clinks showers.

Yep. The vast majority of us who love bikes love to ride....and that's it. No gang violence...no drug dealing...no extortion, etc. And yes again this does happen with bike gangs and can happen anywhere. But they are a tiny minority of bikers. I hung out with a group of Bandidos in the States on one of my wanderings (I was snowed in for 3 days) and they could not have have been more friendly and hospitable. But then I was their guest...not an enemy.

Bike gangs have a loyalty, that few of us can understand, to the group. If you cause any offence to the group or it's patch, any of the members or their families then you will be a target.

A Swiss national is the leader? Very odd as Switzerland hates anything louder than a sewing machine.

Perhaps he kept the others entertained as he was a good Singer??
