A government may come to the point when much of what they say is either ignored or disbelived. Try telling on the mob in Sicily. You won't go very far or long after that.

There is little ground for optimism looking at the present developments of Covid 19 here. Also, the powers to be have had their mandate seriously questioned. Many Thais are in dire straits with almost no money. Perhaps close to desperation. World history of the past 100 years has examples of comparable situations, and some of them have not ended peacefully. Not peacefully at all.

Banks are getting desperate for ringing up more and more credit. Things are getting bad
Yes. I believe that is so.

This sticks of help for the military and their voter base the middle and upper class who get free money at Christmas every year in their shop/tax present now this. This doesn't help the poor farmers or the poor scraping a daily subsistence living. Mr T did it best with the actual tax cut on new pickups which the poor could use as recreational and earn money with.
True.

What a joke. They will not do anything.

Why should schools reflect a different picture of the realities of society?

Sounds strange when an officer picks out one group of people to say they can have confidence in the force. Should not all people have such confidence?

What about the people masquerading as teachers with fake degrees. Are they doing much to improve the quality of English among their students? Verification of degrees is not a high priority here, to say the least.

It all begins with interest of the world outside, which is lacking. The incentive is 0.
This is one of the causes, without doubt.

Words, words and words. Talk, talk and talk. The only policy in effect here for decades is doing nothing, or at best, doing something when it is too late.

When the crash comes it's gonna be a big one. I hear this from Thai businesspeople.

Surprised that this topic is open for discussion. Aren't most of them closed?

And often find better quality, better infrastructure, better attitude. As you say, Thailand's main appeal was that it was good value. Now it isn't. The only thing that still is are top-end hotels.
True. And the decline started a long time ago.

“Baht appreciation expected to be short-lived”
How ‘bout, exports expected to be short-lived?
And where did they get that USD 30.34 on the Baht? Try 30.20 today.
Might need to have a word with those Chinese money traders...
Agree. There is no sign the BOT or anyone else in "government" has the least willpower to do anything at all.

The yo-yo keeps swinging up and down.

The word on the street among some Thais I know is that business owners are waiting for 1997 to return. The longer this unnatural state of affairs is carried on, the greater the impending crash. Massive defaulting on domestic bank loans is what they predict.

My guess is that before long, there will be news of a different nature that explain the real reasons.

<deleted>. They are afraid now, having to deny things. The whole country sees through their lies.

So how was this situation 5 years ago, 10 years ago, 20 years ago? Not that different from todays' situation. The lack of perspective is appalling. True, Covid has thrown an additional spanner into the works, with extra torment. But basically, this is old news.

I believe the case with the American tourist who was threatened with jail time over a negative hotel/resort review had much more impact on Thailand's image as it made headlines all around the world.
