  1. This story reminds me of this British Pakistani who I worked with in a school in Bangkok. He was basically illiterate (no degree or A-levels) but was a real bully and thought he was something special, sweet talking the thai staff as he had picked up some thai teaching in some Hat Yai backwater school. Luckily he finally talked behind one too many backs and everyone realised what I saw from the start, so he got binned. Last I heard he was back working as a bouncer in the midlands!

There are thousands of dregs from UK society who end up as teachers in Thailand. It's sad because there are actually some very good and enthusiastic TEFL teachers here but they get tarnished by all the losers who are total failures in their home countries.

How can any sane person expect a Thai to be able to properly teach English? Native speakers from select countries are what is needed to teach a language. I do not consider Aussies, Kiwis, or Saffers to be native English speakers at a level to be able to teach English. I know that is controversial, but too bad. Their accents are horrible to listen to for Canadians and Americans, let alone Thai or Lao students.

I’m no history expert but surely Aussies and kiwis are as native at speaking english as Americans? You are all ultimately descendants from British/European immigrants.

I personally find some American accents more horrible than say a well educated Kiwi.

So yeah your post comes across as somewhat arrogant.

Some saffas aren’t native speakers because Afrikaans is their first language but the English saffas are. Quite a big difference again.

That is completely untrue. Not what my wife or any of her international student friends experienced in England.

Agreed this isn’t true. I had loads of Chinese on my degree (15 years ago granted!) and I had the unfortunate experience of having to do group projects with them... some of them could barely speak any English and I went to a top20 university in the U.K.

They live in segregated accommodation for ‘overseas students’ in halls of residence though and overall didn’t mix too much with British students on campus.

  4. Ridiculous comments from his Mum today, in an obvious attempt to avoid a charge of aiding a terrorist.

’He was such a polite boy, I’m shocked he would do that’

meanwhile neighbours call the whole family ‘ultra religious’!!

Convicted terrorists liked this and the London Bridge attacker should have been jailed indefinitely. You can’t reform people with such radical views and they are best locked up forever with a few copies of the Koran and a prayer mat.

I don’t get it. Why don’t people that live here just get a Thai wife? I have no idea how I could possibly manage living in Thailand without my awesome wife. She makes life so simple, we do everything legally, and she saves me a boatload of money and hassle. I mean, just for protection, you really do need a Thai wife. I know people that have been in Thailand 15+ years on E-visas and I’m always blown away how they’ve managed to survive here. I always ask, why don’t you have a Thai wife? 15 years and no Thai wife??? Mind blowing. One guy I know doesn’t have a Thai wife because he’s not attracted to Asians. Lol. I’m always like, wait, you live in Thailand but you’re not attracted to Asians??? Makes no sense. Must be torture.

The supply of beautiful and smart Thai women is endless so there really is no excuse. The ratio of straight guys that are not monks to women is insane. Living in Thailand as a straight male is like God Mode.

You guys are looking in all the wrong places if all you keep landing is Bar Girls. Go to Business / Entrepreneurial Meetups in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket. Find a sharp lady that runs a successful business. The ones that are in the medical and supplement industry are loaded beyond belief. Or better, land a hi-so Thai girl. Put in the effort. It’s worth it. Thai girls are the best. Especially the smart ones with money.

I agree there are some amazing Thai woman in Thailand. They are smart, loyal and playful.
Compared to the lazy arrogant trolls indigenous to the UK there really is no comparison.

But how dumb is it to pay between 20,000 and 50,000 baht when a little patience and understanding you can do by yourself

Fool and his money etc etc…

Why is it dumb? They are teachers who want work permits but can’t get them as they probably don’t have degrees. If someone say they can fix it and get you a wp for 20000 then that seems like a good trade if you believe they are doing it through genuine channels.

Ok, A question deserves an answer. If you like it or not is totally besides the point.

In my opinion he is disgusting because, according to me (in my opinon), he is engaging in a disgusting behaviour by breaking the Immigration law of Thailand. In my opinin that leads to a bad reputation for foreigners in Thailand, which I believe is a contributor to harscher enforcement of the Immigration laws.

He’s only on overstay mate! Get a grip - you sound like a pretty hate filled individual.

You mention getting a MALE IO at swampy, Ive always tried to charm the ladies, do u feel the male choice is the way to go...cos thats the FIRST time Ive heard of a IO saying PLEASE.....please elaborate on this.. tnx ????

It was more an order than a polite please!

From the history of refusals on here it felt like the lady IO's were typically involved in dragging people off. Personally I've been lucky and never had an issue with IOs. Maybe not looking like a begpacker helps!

Sounds like you have the necessary charm to get the middle aged female IOs moist for some falang ????

  9. I think you should be fine on another VE. From your history it is pretty clear you are not living or working in thailand.  My recent history is much longer than yours and I got in with a VE a few weeks ago without any questions other than 'next time you get a visa please' and a smile from the male IO.

If you want to be extra safe, pay one of the agents for the fast track lane and go to a male IO at swampy.

Also no harm in getting a SETV from the UK if you live near London (good luck with the online evisa process tho it's pretty retarded and frustrating)

This replies sums up the attitude of most old forum posters here. News flash - many, many travelers you see around the world don't work jobs. Some of us are even smart enough to have investments that pay out. We're not all on the 9-5 until retire then have fun train.

Don’t let them wind you up. It’s largely just jealously. Some older people don’t always understand the premise of not working in a full time job.
My old man is always nagging me to get a job ????

  11. I don’t believe you will be able to get a work permit without a degree regardless of years of experience.

Conversely it will be very easy to get a job even in central BKK. There is a constant shortage of teachers in the unqualified space especially now there is a clamp down on tourist visa / education visa use.

You will earn less than 60k thb a month though.

The good international schools here require qualified teachers with specific teaching diplomas from the west.

In my first school in BKK which was a good girls private school most of the teachers didn’t have degrees and therefore no work permits. However they were studying degrees in Thailand (worthless paper outside of the country imo) to get round the visa requirements.

As per someone else said I would think carefully about leaving Japan. Teaching in Thai schools can be very frustrating on many levels (Management, children and even parents...) and your visa situation here could be difficult.

    good luck ????

I don't understand this, unless you are paying to put children through private school and renting a large-condo for a family of 4+.  Or maybe your lifestyle just requires a lot more padding than mine - which is fine, if that's the case.

But in my expereince, Bangkok is only expensive if you live in an expensive condo, eat at expensive restaurants/bars, etc.  As a single-guy, or with a gf/wife, it is certainly possible to live in Bangkok inexpensively.  Granted, not as cheap as "staying in the wife's house in Issan."

"Right Visa" being an extension-of-stay paid through an agent, so they get their cut.  Heck, in the Jomtien office, recent report indicates they offer to take the bribe right there for "missing funds" on retirement-based extensions.

You are right, if I had a long term girlfriend I could live quite cheaply.

But I must admit to having a weakness for good restaurants/wine and nice accommodation. I’m here for the lifestyle after working too hard to be able to spend any money for many years in London.

At 100K/month a Elite Visa is clearly within reach. However you won't be able to legally work. Actually 100K/month isn't really that high especially those living in hotels and eating out. Retire people often own and have invested in their homes, have cars, etc. This significantly reduces their costs.

If you are bringing in 100K/month, why are you concerned about costs? Seems like you should consult with an agent or immigration lawyer, rather than posting on a forum.

I’m not concerned I’m just thinking hypothetically about the current immigration situation. I have a Non B visa already.

Agreed it’s not high at all. I struggle to survive on 100k + my measly teachers salary in BKK because life isn’t cheap here.

Also agree that retired’s own assets but this doesn’t have an ongoing impact on GDP
