  1. It is Karma. When govt follow sanctions on countries and their children suffer due to lack of medication, food and always felt proud to do that.

So lets wait to hear the screams coming out of the UK. It is already coming out a PM is removed. Obligation money dont have, wow what a financial capital. No wonder Hong Kong is in chaos.

Much less pour you a sip, in a nice wine glass, and ask you how it is? God forbid that you ask them a question about the wine. Would you recommend the 2012 over the 2014? How was that vintage in Tuscany? They look at you like you are from Mars. Ok, can I speak to the person here who is in charge of wine? Huh? What? Can you repeat the question? Say again? Sorry, nobody here knows nothing about wine. But, you have a hundred bottles on the list, ranging from 1,000 baht to 8,000 baht a bottle. And nobody knows anything?

It is no wonder wealthy tourists come here once, and near return. They walk away and say I just do not want to be surrounded by village people who are culturally illiterate.

Observation: Drinking wine for Thai, "Reflect wealth and more cultured" whereas the same person drinks whisky throughout adolsence and early professional life.

Many dont even know the types of wine.

Of late been there, done that, i.e. I park the car, wife goes in and checks-in, room booked in her name, then rings me when in the room and advises level and room number, my bad luck as I have been picked up on both occasions, long of the short, security in lift, what level sir, your swipe card please sir, um, I left it in my room, please come to reception, the hotel staff and security must be trained well at the hotels that we stay at, besides, when having breakfast, it doesn't take much to see me with the wife, oh that must be the husband, they either approach at the table, Kar, please make sure we have his passport details, or they ring the room after seeing me on the CCTV going into my room, wife answers, can you please bring your husbands passport to reception as we need to copy everyone's IDs that are staying in the hotel.

Long of the short, I don't get cheesed off as they are doing their job and of course they are paying attention to who is who and where who staying, call it good security or good book keeping to avoid being fined, so until the wife gets the password for the TM 30 app, I will be doing the driving to IO, but not for much longer, but will still be doing the bookings in the wife's name and trying to avoid having to report my whereabouts, just on principal if I can get away with it ????

Pls be careful. To stay at a hotel and not register is an offense so always register. If anything goes wrong in hotel, the person to catch is the one who is unregistered.

  4. Only solution is to convert on CNG and put fuel cutt off limit in the software of commercial vehicles. Buses have cng but they can accelerate to 100 plus. At least can start from buses to limit 80km/hr. Its a builti in software or could be added to limit speed. Driver cant touch or tamper ECU.

It does not matter what visa you are on, if you stay for 8 months per year in Thailand, you are a fiscal resident here too.
The reality is that even most Thais do not pay taxes.

So new law says take insurance on Non OA then take it. Goes for everyone in this category.

Whether Thais pay taxes or not its not my concern but many foreigners are doing as well. Can they do back home, not at all.

I'm on an O-A retirement visa here, and the last time I looked at the visa conditions they just define me as a long term tourist here. Not resident. I don't have a right to work here, or any more rights than a tourist on a 7 days holiday.  Heaps of banks refused to open an account for me.

I don't say it is good or bad, it is just the way it is. However the mandatory health insurance for the O-A holders is a money grab. If we have the same rights as any tourist, then TI should be good enough.

Yes this is main point Sir. There are so many retirees who run businesses on their spouse or friends name do not pay a single dime in taxes. Yes many banks dont open account and problems for exclusive retirees who only tend to retire by living on their limited income.

I wish you well and hope you will cope with this regulation.

Absurd point of view, how can a retiree retire if he/she never worked?

Anyway here are the official 'expat' numbers for Thailand.

    Foreign Expats by regions 2010[30]

    Africa 8,166 0.32
Central and South America 10,608 0.41
    Australia and Oceania 13,233 0.51
    Northern America 46,279 1.79
    South Asia 78,454 3.04
    Stateless 117,315 4.54
    Europe 200,564 7.77
    East Asia 249,204 9.65
    Southeast Asia 1,845,788

    71.51

    More here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Thailand

    informal noun
    noun: expat; plural noun: expats
    1. 1.
a person who lives outside their native country.
"a British expat who's been living in Amsterdam for 14 years"

Over a period of time in the last two decades retirees also joined the community. Why not then take a proper business registration on ones own name, hire locals, pay taxes and be an expat professional even if 80 years old, does not matter. Pay taxes for keeping business here. Thats the fundamental of this new insurance. It is not applicable to nonb.

I did not mean to offend anyone please, its my view and stay firm on this. The first member tried to portray that tourist are likely to bring more diseases. Anyways, my point is clear. All are welcome to their point of view.

I would have thought with the millions of tourists flooding Thailand that they would be more of a medical problem then a few hundred expats living here !

Absurd comment on your part. When anyone gets a resident permit in the EU then its mandatory to have health insurance.

Oldies got all things easy and free before but not anymore. Numbers are not a few hundred by thousands retiree and not expats. Expats term is actually meant for working class????‍????
