  1. I discovered today that my Thai wife's driving license expired nearly 2 years ago. I have read she has to take the written test again to renew it. I also read the government is / has recenly (due to Covid) already changed the law to make it 3 years the license needs to be expired before the written test has to be taken.

So a 2 year expired license can be renewed as usual.

I would very much appreciate it if someone could confirm which is correct.

    Thanks very much

  2. Thanks bbko for the advice.

In fact I did exactly that today.

I live near to the Transport Office near the Regents School, so I rode down to the 'DoR Ror Or' place where I get my Car Tested.

It is on the 36 not far from the Transport Office.

They took my motorbike log book and checked the bike as it is over 5 years old.

I bought their compulsory insurance and they said come back tomorrow to pick up the tax disc.

I have a receipt to hand to them tomorrow as they kept the log book.

It could not have been simpler.

  3. I just want to tax my motorbike for the next year. It is 5 years old now and so also needs a test certificate. Could someone please tell me where I can go to do this -if it can be done that is.

I tried DLT.Go.th but that was not working properly this afternoon. If the information is there I will try it again later.

    Many thanks for your help.

  4. I wasn''t sure where to ask this question.

My wife has been in Nackon Nayok for 6 weeks. I need to go and collect her as there is no public transport.

I need to drive from Pattaya

I believe there is a document I need to get from Pattaya Immigration.

Could someone please advise how to do this or point me to a reference somewhere on how to do this.

I will collect her on Friday.

    Thanks for your help

  5. Sheryl,

Thanks for your help. I will go and research these now.

Out of interest and not wishing to libel the doctors at PMH, is pinning a finger only something that can be performed by a senior hand specialist.

In my naivety, I thought most orthopedic surgeons had this skill - yet I got the feeling during my recent experience that these younger doctors were happier 'buddying' my finger and fixing the cast than getting involved in surgery.

Put simply is pinning a task for senior experts.

    Thanks again for your help.

  6. Sheryl, thanks very much for the reply.

I have just contacted Prof Songcharoen.

I am not certain, but I believe I need to get this pinned within so many days of the accident on 18th june.

I suspect the Professor may be very busy and not available next week.

BPH - Before I had my 2 hip resurfacing operations 10 years ago, I had some bad advice from BPH.

I still use BPH for my dental work, they are very good, but I would rather go somewhere else locally for this if it is possible.

That is why I went to PMH.

Do you think it has to be BPH if i am unable to see the professor.

    Is there anywhere else locally?

Once again thanks very much for your advice. You have advised me before in the fairly distant past and each time your suggestions have been excellent.

    regards

  7. Thanks Tonray for your reply.

When I went to A and E on the Friday evening, I was told that is what would happen.

On the Saturday I was given 3 nerve block injections that numbed the area, I felt no pain at all. I have had 2 hip replacement operations, so had no problems watching what was going on as I feel quite relaxed in this environment.

As he was bending and pulling the finger back into place, I asked him why he couldn't now do the pinning operation.

He said that as it had not hurt me maybe when I came back yesterday, they could use just a nerve block for the pinning.

Yesterday it was a different surgeon who would not do this.

  8. A week ago I fell and fractured my small finger. I went to Pattaya Memorial Hospital on the Friday evening and arranged to return the next day to have it 'reduced' and pinned under local anaesthetic.

The surgeon gave me the local anaesthetic, straightened the finger out and put the finger in a cast.

We had agreed on this after he had told me he would only pin it if I had a full anaesthetic so I was fully unconscious. I told him that I am 67 years old with an underlying heart condition and this was a very bad idea.

Yesterday I went back to have another x-ray and the fracture is looking ok from the front angle, but the side angle shows it would benefit from pinning if i want full motion.

I have always funded my own health and so don't have an insurance company to discuus this with.

I am happy to fund this, but I am not going to risk a full anaesthetic just to be able to 'make a fist'.

In the west, it is common to have this type of pinning with a local anaesthetic. Surely it is available here as well, I just need to find it.

    Any help would be appreciated

  9. NorfolkandChance, thanks for the feedback.

I have decided to use my car for these trips. It is a 12 hour drive, but I have made 12 hour trips before and they are OK.

A bit tiring, but with a few stops on the way quite achievable.

    Thanks again for the help.

  10. I would like to travel between Pattaya and Bueng Kan by bus, both ways next week or the 20th February.

Is there a bus service between the 2 areas NOW and if I do this trip is there a quarantine in the Bueng Kan area?

    Thanks for your help.

  11. Hi Jeffr2,

    Thanks for the reply.

As I said in an earlier post, I have cancelled the trip.

I was confused by the fact there was a report that the governor of Chonburi said that the area was not under 'lockdown'. I took this to mean we could travel around freely for now.

    That was Tuesday I think.

As I don't follow the news that closely, I thought I would ask on here to make sure a trip to Bang Na would be 'doable'.

From the replies I got, it soon became evident that there may not be a 'lockdown', but there is not freedom of movement either.

I will be staying home now as much as possible until this whole sorry mess is sorted out.

Thanks for your replies and stay safe ????

  12. BKK6060, thanks for the reply. Very useful.

I read in another thread that traveling between provinces is now allowed. Are you saying it is not allowed to travel from Pattaya to Bangkok unless it is necessary ?

The trouble is that list you show was dated yesterday. Pattaya is not on it. I think this has changed since yesterday?

I don't know though, but other threads I read suggested travel is now OK?

  13. Yes, your trip is necessary. Mine isn't, it would just be a lot easier to go as planned tomorrow. I am just wondering if cars are being checked by police as they seem to be in some areas.

Maybe I have misunderstood the situation and there will be no hassle at all - there seems to be so many conflicting stories regarding Covid.

    Good luck in BKK.

  14. Thanks for quick reply.

So you will drive to Bangkok on the 7 I suppose.

I was going to drive on the 7 and then the 361 and the 34 Expressway to BangNa.

I cannot imagine I will be stopped on that route - it is the Rayong area that has the problems isn't it?

    • Haha 1
  15. I may have to drive to Bang Na on Thursday (tomorrow 7th).

I will drive there and drive straight back again.

Are there any new covid rules in place that prevent me doing this or will give me problems.

    Thanks for your help.

That may explain why he looked at me like I was a bad smell when I mentioned Thaivisa and - he gruffly said it was 1000 baht. :).

He had plainly advertised that price on his website, so it was fair enough.

I was a member of the Expats club 17 years ago when I first came to live in Thailand. I did not know it was even still running - although I think it split into 2 groups didn't it?

I am about to take 3 pensions in total that I will have to have these POL letters for, so I will find somewhere cheaper for next year.

500 baht seems fair enough for this 5 minute task.

I will try the lawyer suggested by Dabhand for the next one - just up the road from KeyVisa.

Come to think of it, I do my car insurance with AA Insurance, I wonder if they will do it. They are just up the road from KeyVisa as well and I renew my insurance every November, so at the same time as I will have to do this POL next year.

Thanks again to everyone for the replies.

  17. Thanks for all the replies.

I went to Darren at KeyVisa.

I mentioned the 500 baht for ThaiVisa members - he wasn't interested in that at all.

He charged 1000 baht - fair enough.

I am 66 years old and this is the first time I have received a UK State pension, so I will probably find someone who will do this each yearfor 500 baht or less.

The problem this year is that I did not realise I had to provide this POL information at all as I had filed the letter.

I had 16 weeks from August 3rd to return the POL letter and that is 28th November - in 5 days time.

So I was in a bit of a hurry!

    Thanks again for your help.

  18. Hi there

I usually go to Kevin Harper at British Law to get my 'Proof Of Life' document signed so that I can continue to receive my pension.

He has not replied to my emails and the phones are dead.

So I suspect he has closed down?

Does anyone know what has happened to Kevin and/or could you recommend someone who

would stamp this form for me.

A lawyer's office would be best, but I don't want to be ripped off like once happened some

years ago. 3000 baht for a signature and a stamp!!

Kevin used to charge 1000 baht

    Thanks for your help

  19. Thanks Champers for the reply.

I have never had a problem either. It is just since Covid-19 I check a lot of things. I guess the bus will only be half full due to social distancing - not sure if that makes a difference though as I suspect there are a LOT less people travelling around now anyway.
