  1. I would welcome a "private message" response from any Thai & English speaking (must speak both) screenplay writers who would like to further discuss this Thai language short film concept. Even better if you're familiar with, have lived in, or currently live in Bangkok.

(Note to moderators: I'm not a new member to ThaiVisa, but I am having trouble deciding whether to post this in the "Thai Language" or "General Topics" or "Bangkok" forum? Feel free to relocate it at your discretion!)

  2. Hi all. Has anyone purchased a hobby priced microscope from one of the sources mentioned in this thread (or elsewhere)? What'd you get....what'd you pay.....are you happy with it....where/how can the rest of us get one, too? I've found several Thailand sources...but price is still in the range of what a "real" scientist might be willing to pay. I need one that can be purchased on a scientist's kid's budget. :-)

  3. I humbly and sincerely offer my best wishes to HM The King on his birthday. If I may put forth one additional observation......it seems that as HM The King's personal health improved over the past few months, so did the economy of The Land Of Smiles (and, in fact, the entire global economy began its recovery during that period as well). I've often heard the phrase....."the land and the King are one" (from the days of King Arthur I think?)........and the economic data suggest this is very much the case viz a viz HM The King and his Kingdom of Thailand. It's truly a powerful relationship to witness!

Happy Birthday to HM The King!

  4. Hey Kapoha.......in BKK, I'm 100% certain I saw brand name "Lactaid" at a pharmacy. However, I'm only 90% sure that I remember which pharmacy it was. With that qualifier......the one I'm thinking of is on Sukhumvit, near Nana......opposite side of Sukhumvit from Nana (so pharmacy is on same side as JW Marriott).........between Bully's Pub and the gas station with the mini-McDonald's kiosk. There are two pharmacies within those boundaries......the one I'm thinking of is the smaller of the two, and it is the one closer to the gas station (further from the Bully's).

    I truly hope that helps.

  5. Hey OnNut......if you're in Bangkok, all of the Villa Market Supermarkets usually offer vine leaves.......in fact, two varieties last time I looked - one was a jar with only vinegar and whole leaves, the other was stuffed leaves (stuffed with rice.....I think!). Bon Apetit.

  6. Hey PB lovers.......I thought about "ya'll" today when I saw a certain jar of a certain product at Villa Market on Sukhumvit Soi #11. What was it? Check out the image attached. There are....I think.....four varieties, including creamy / chunky with only peanuts and salt.....and creamy / chunky with peanuts, salt, and sugar. Price is higher than I recall was the case with the "Mission" brand that used to find its way onto shelves (at the grocery store.....and then in my condo). I haven't tried any of it yet.....but definitely wanted to get the picture posted here ASAP. Enjoy!

  7. I've got a friend who is looking for mobile app developers and asked me who I knew in Thailand that does great work. Hopefully this thread can generate some information, leads, and ultimately a deal for the development of what sounds to me like a very complex, very cool, long-term, mobile app related project. (Regarding platforms.....I believe it will start on either iPhone or Android, then progress until it covers all the major's....iPhone, Android, Blackberry, etc.)

Anyone have an experience to share related to working with Thailand based mobile app developers?

  9. Hey guys.....ya'll know I am a ThaiVisa fan. Can you help me locate my missing topic? Last I saw of it was from this email notification of a new post to it. I click the link.....and poof......nuttin'. No worries, just curious where it is now.

    OR

Yes, (The) Clashes Continue, Turning Central Bangkok (Thaivisa) In Virtual Warzone

Few posters did ask only news, not feral comments by member, none done!

where i am thaivisa is erratic; just the facts will be good, losing so much time going through people opinion & wisdom

What I "mean" is to express my sincere gratitude to anyone who has posted what I feel is highly credible "news I can use". Defining it more precisely than that or arguing the finer points of which specific posts about the protests are "highly credible".....well, that's absolutely not what I "mean" to do.

  11. ....everyone who has and continues to post highly credible...... :D

are you sure you got the correct website? this is thaivisa ... :)

I'm not sure what the % is of "highly credible" news updates......and I'm probably less cynical about the size of that %......but indeed it's only that group of people who shared "highly credible news updates" that I'm thanking. :-)

  12. Hey there.....I greatly appreciate the efforts and contributions of everyone who has and continues to post highly credible / objective news updates related to the protests. Some of the contributors presumably work for ThaiVisa and / or its partners, some are independent / freelance reporters, and some are just "regular people"......and all of them are doing more than is called for in this regard.

If there's anyone in particular you'd like to praise....feel free to add your favorites.

Thank you again, everyone.....for bringing us what truly is....."news we can use".

  13. When I saw this video, the first representative example that came to mind was the current state of politics here in LOS. (Please note: the example in the actual video portrays some very silly acting people, and I'm not intending to imply that political movements here in LOS are in any way similarly silly, although no doubt some folks will make such a comparison.)

Here's a direct link to the 3-minute video.....and I'll try to "embed" a video player below the link, too.

  14. Good mornin'!

I'm not sure if more folks want to participate in the poll.....but I think it's unfair to make anyone who already voted wait to see the right answer. So....I typed the correct answer and then saved it as a "PDF" file. I'll attach it to this post. You're free to comment on the correct answer.....but just know that if you give to much away in your comments, you'll have spoiled the poll for anyone who hasn't yet voted.

Thank you for all the guesses.....I was genuinely curious what the opinions would be.

    Shirt_Exchange_Poll___Answer.pdf

  15. This happened to me. I bought a shirt at "Big C". Tried it on when I got home.....turned out it was too small. Completely my fault....I picked the "size I usually wear", but didn't take the extra 2 minutes to try it on while I was at the store. So, I went back to "Big C" just 4 days later.....with the receipt....and with all of the labels and tags still on the shirt.....and asked for no money back, just please allow me to exchange the shirt for the proper size.

What do you think I was told? Pick the answer in the poll that most closely resembles your guess. I'll reveal what happened after people have time to register their votes.

  16. Agreed that NIO's reply contains an abundance of truth and actionable advice. Thank you!

I'm still hoping that NIO or RARO or someone else will indulge me with a few additional words regarding what is presumably a Thai angle to this sort of "one man show" scheduling. In America, for example, even with a much higher (on absolute and relative scale) minimum wage, most small retail shops wouldn't rely solely on a single minimum wage employee to open on time (not late) and to stay open (not close or leave early). Sure, having one such person there happens from time to time.....but not often as part of the permanent business plan.

So what's different here in the LOS? Work ethic? Desire to gain something (more pay, bonus, promotion)? Fear of losing their job?

    CHEERS!

    D

  17. Hi. I see business plans, businesses for sale, and existing businesses that I visit.....and all of the small retailers seem to, at times, rely on a single employee to run the shop. No owner present.....no "backup" employee in case the one doesn't show up on time to open the shop, or has to go home sick during business hours.....and from what I can gather, not much more than minimum wage being paid to that single employee and little or no opportunity to advance up the career ladder.

Notwithstanding all of the people who post mean stuff about Thai employees being unsatisfactory.......I'd like to hear about the experiences of the shop owners here on ThaiVisa. How often do you get "the call" an hour before the shop is supposed to open.....from your one scheduled "opener" who is calling to tell you they can't make it to work that day? What do you do when it happens? Do "you guys" really run your shops successfully...long term.....with one low wage employee per shift? What's the main motivation for that employee to be reliable......is it more their desire to do well in order to earn extra pay or recognition, or fear of losing their job if they miss a shift?

    Just curious.

  18. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread, especially those who offered constructive tips....including a new angle of telling my friend to consider visiting prisons instead of hospitals. I'll see if she's up for it! To those who added not much more than sarcasm.....thank you, too....as you helped keep this thread at the top of the forum long enough for others to see and participate. WOOHOO!

I'll report back.....if she reports back to me...lol!!

  19. Ha! Adding "Jesus freak" was a nice touch, Sabum....although my friend isn't religious and I didn't say or imply she was. She has no ulterior motive or obfuscated agenda....rather, she just wants to help lonely patients (she was once one herself) feel less neglected. Ahhhhh....and of course, she believes her actions will make her happy, too.

I look forward to additional replies. Which hospital? What sort of gifts?

  20. Hi....an English-only speaking friend wants to bring gifts (total of 2000 BAHT) and spend a few minutes visiting lonely patients (any age, any illness....doesn't matter to her) in a Bangkok hospital. Which hospital would you recommend as being most familiar with and receptive to this idea....of a farang stranger who just wants to cheer up lonely patients. And what sort of gifts do best (not cash or gift cards....she'd prefer to bring actual gifts) under these circumstances?
