  1. What type of masks are we actually talking about ? Most, if not all the masks wearing persons I see are wearing surgical masks. If I believe medical informations regarding those masks, their primary use is to retain the droplets of the wearer when talking. Surgeons talk a lot when at work. They to not protect from inhalation. Another type of mask, with a particle filter, is used, coded FFP2.  Both categories are single use, to be disregarded in a controlled manner. Do we, westerners, let alone the Thai people apply this controlled manner ? Of course not. But then, Men pen Rai.. it don’t matter really. It’s what we see that matters: a abiding mask wearing individual.

Stop wingeing, they are at least trying to do something. I went to my local Tesco Lotus yesterday and wearing my mask I was not amused by a group of twenty somethings ( westerners ) having a morning meet up in the meat section, not one of them wearing a mask.

I know a mask is a totally inadequate protection but at least the wearing of one shows a respect for others not a self centred attitude so obvious these days. That’s my rant for the week now I will get back to reading my book... look after yourselves...

No, a mask is not a totally inadequate protection, on the contrary, but IN CONFINED SPACES only. And yes you are right about that bunch of westerners. But you try finding masks in shops .. Zilch. Thanks the postal services are still wirking, I order mine from ... Japan !

Now imagine if that bunch if westerners had been refused entry because of their lack of masks, suppose you were one of those, how would you react ?

  3. With the zillions times square of masks being manufactured, used and disregarded, I wonder what will happen pollution wise ..? Shall we see sea turtles wearing masks ? Remnants of masks washing up on the shores of our beaches ?

Just as we started to get rid of plastic straws and other single use plastic objects, we are now switching to what will become a very big problem .. once the virus has done its job.. ????

    Hmmmm

the infection rate slow in South Korea, China, Japan. Most wear the mask.

the infection rate increase in Italy, US, UK, France. Spain. Most not wear the mask.

Total true again. Open the eyes.

I not understand why some people argue about wear mask so much. Is not difficult.

Not be selfish, considerate for elderly.

    thousand+ die everyday now.

Next week will be 10,000+ everyday.

I wouldn’t be so sure about Japan ... wait a few days, now the Olympics are gone, the « mask can be removed » (pardon the pun).

Even though many people wear masks, they do not in the many crowded, albeit cramped eating places. Tokyo mayor is asking tokyites to behave responsibly, still too afraid to impose a lock down on the megapolis: economic worry still priorities over people’s lives.

So let’s see if Japan, with its corrupt government, can emulate Korea, Taiwan, Singapore or .. China.

    Ready to bet ?

  5. I’ve seen Thais wearing masks while riding their motorbike. Went to my Makro yesterday, staff were wearing masks except for one at the reception desk, who was protecting her chin with it (probably from some angry fist). I walked up to her, my mask properly adjusted, and asked her why she was wearing a mask at all (in gestures as I don’t speak the lingo)? She laughed and pronounced the sacro sanct leitmotiv « Men pen rai ». So I took my mask off and replied « Men pen rai to you too »

    Go Thailang go

If the new infection rate averages 100 per day, and the public cooperates fully with the Government’s preventive directives, by staying at home and observing social distancing, he predicted that, by the end of April, total infections will be about 3,000.

IF.. just went for a drive in my town of Sa Kaeo.. None of the above applies. And I mean none of the above, food courts included ! One thing that my gf told me though was that the Government told people to shut up or face consequences.. So I say, bravo Prayut .. because by shutting up, people will not breathe in and out the nasty viral droplets. That's the way to go, General, what next ?

As for the 3000 infected, it is irrelevant. What is relevant will be number of deaths.

None planned in Sa Kaeo where life goes on as usual.

Letters are not required for V.O.A or tourist visa just go and apply.pay the fee.Non immigrate visa,i think may need letter? but not required to renew yearly N.I.O retirement visa.90 DAY reports you can do online,i have done all mine online for past 3yrs with very few problems.

I tried the online 90D on Friday, it was no go. Ended up telling me to check with my local immigration office ! So went to Aranyaprathet on Monday, did the formality and was back in the car within 10 minutes! Wonder what it’s like today and next days ..

  8. What happens to all those reckless tourists now on idyllic islands of Koh Chang, Koh Samui and others ? Stuck on the islands ? I hope they are aware they are on those islands for a rather unknown duration.
By the way, there was no temperature controls on the ferries to Koh Chang the other day ..

  9. So it means that people can still sit on a plane for number of hours and eventually unknowingly infect others on board .. Humans are the carriers helped by the airlines. One day a country is clear, the next some passenger disembarks from a plane and bingo.. first hit !

Requesting visas from China and other Asian countries and yet none from Europe is absurd.

    Tomorrow will be another day

    China is not farang.

    Farang = white westerner.

    Chinese = Jek

I thought Farang meant Foreigner.. Although local kids told me it meant people from English speaking countries. I asked them about France, Germany, Italy, etc ... And then asked « what are you when you go to another country and English is the only way to communicate ? Are you a Farang? » That blew their brain fuses ..

Now are Black Westerners, Brazilians, Mexicans, Latin American Farangs ?

Are Malays, Indonesians, Papuans, etc .. Leks ?

Wasn’t an origin of the word Farang .. Farangse for French, dating back from colonial History ? So I’ll take Farang as a short for .. ????

It was interesting to see how the different countries are taking different approaches to tackling this virus.

In Korea they are doing mass testing to try and catch the virus at an early stage. I read the other day that a Covid-19 test in Thailand can cost up to 13,000 Baht, so some people avoid being tested. Wouldn't it be a good idea for the government to give a large budget to the health authorities and make testing free for everyone?

The government ? With public monies ? What about the Royal House. I read the other day that it was sitting on a $30 billion fortune (just look on any search engine). I haven’t heard anything about the House doing its bit. Have you ?

With all due respect to Their Highnesses, of course ????
