  1. Just went to Mae Sai. On way back in ,Passport guy didn't talk to me,customs guys were sitting on x-ray machine & dog was asleep.

However at checkpoint near Mae Chan we got searched everything, every dvd etc & had to do the old stand & spread 'em. Very thorough.

  2. I am using Dtac and emailed them about when edge will be available in Chiang Rai. They said that it was available in Chiang Rai airport. I used my PPC the other day on the ground floor coffee shop only to find that I was on gprs mode and was surfing at say 38kbps speeds. Which part of the airport do I need to be in to use edge?

What's Dtac, Whats edge, whats PPC, whats gprs mode?

Sorry no beaches in Chiang Rai so no surfing, unless you get behind a boat on the river.

The speed limit is more than 38 kbps in Chiang Rai so you should be ok.

The airport is only a few metres long, so if you stand on either end you should be ok but you could stand it front of it or go behind it.

Edge is the guitarist with Irish band U2

  3. Hola.

It is very easy to get to the andaman coast. There are flights to Phuket & Krabi. Or a 12 hour bus trip. Not much fun. But comfortable buses & you can see some scenery.

There is fairly good shopping in Phuket town. Go anytime you need a break from the sun.

From Phuket & Krabi you can get boats everywhere. Regular timetables or rent you own boat.

  4. No one can answer those questions just yet with any accuracy. Best to wait a bit . Sept 28 will tell you a lot.

As your flights are both with Thai you would hope they are both connecting at the same airport.

I know its frustrating but what can you do. Keep in contact with your local Thai office.

  5. Yes it's strange!

But they writing in this link/website below:

...There are rumours of a new Thai-Cambodian border crossing being opened in the near future, a thing welcomed and hoped for by the local population....

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphoe_Bo_Rai

    IMHO it is the place.

"Bo" + "Bor" is a bit confuse, I think it's the village name. Have nothing found with "Bor"!

"Bo" means something like "ribbon; bow" and

"Bor" means something like "pool; water-well; pond" in Thai.

This border looks like it is for Thai & Cambodians only.

  6. Next month my wife and I will be comming to thailand....after arriving we need to stay in a hotel very close to the main train station....The next day we will tavel from bangkok to Den Chai in northern thailand...

Can anybody please give me the names of some decent hotels very close to the main train station that also are not super expensive..... Thanks

Bangkok Centre Hotel is opposite the main train station. Its about Bt 1500 double. From Don Muang airport you can walk across a walkway to Don Muang train station. Take a train to the main station about 40 minutes. No traffic jams.

You can also take trains to Den Chai straight from Don Muang train station. there is information on the web about times etc

Beautiful scenery between Uttaradit and Den Chai.

  7. After the storms in the topic about petcare in Chiang Rai, where a poster accused a local veterinarian of eleven cold-blooded murders on pets (he denied the request to show eleven autopsy reports to substantiate his accusation) back again to out four-footed friends.

I have a cat, that after three years still doesn't know that her name is Tuna.

    But that isn't the point.

She has as many cats in Chiang Rai a kink in her tail. Why do many Chiang Rai cats have kinks in their tails?

My Thai friends say that it is normal and I believe that immediatly.

So maybe I should refrase: Why have cats from elsewhere no kinks in their tail?

She is at the same time a three color cat, white, black and brown. Wow, my Thai friends say, it is a 'saam-see'! What is so special about a 'saam-see' cat? Why does it bring luck?

Is it based on a self-fullfilling profecy?

Is it normal that cats even catch snakes? Two weeks ago she brought home a naughty looking thin and light green viper-like looking snake.

When I came back after a while to see how things went between the two she had bitten the poor thing in four parts and had left them to the ants that suddenly had shown up.

PS: And where is the Chiang Rai Zoo I heard somebody talk about?

    Thanks for the recent welcome.

We have an ongoing problem here with snakes getting into our house. Maybe we could rent your calico cat. At the moment I have to leave it for Miss Esarn to deal with.
