Many of the local hilltribe women seem to be balding. I was just told that it's from the chemicals they use during farming..what do you think?.

Perhaps try some of the towns close to Sepang.. Seremban has lots of hotels & the prices are much less than KL. There are local buses going to Sepang & taxis.

A person with a " bum hip" would have a lot of trouble on the cheap boats popular with backpackers. The seats are about one foot square and three inches high. Thats for 2 days.
Pak Ou cave is a short distance from LP. Can hire boats anytime from there.
A one day trip would be on a speed boat - not safe and very noisy.
You cannot go from Chiang Khong. You must cross over to Laos,Huay Xai. The boat will be a Lao boat & crew.

Does anyone know if there is any transport from LCC-T [KL] going south,or east, eg Port Dickson, Melaka, Seremban ?. thanks

We were staying in a bungalow at Samet when the staff dumped a mountain of plastic drinking bottles next to the side window & set them alight. Luckily it was pre noon so checked out.

The national park has some accommodation on Phu Kradung. It will be very cold at night in January. Its crowded & noisy on weekends /holidays.
-
You would have to go to Chiang Saen & talk to the captain or agent. Any cargo boat could take you. Its no luxury trip & slow.

The LCCT is South of KL, very close to Sepang which is a bit further south

Last weekend in Had Yai was very quiet maybe coz end of the month. Only saw a few Malaysian/ Singaporeans, 5 backpackers & 2 westerners at the train station heading north.
I was the only guest in my hotel.

Because the weather is cold for 3 months the blankets never get washed as no chance to dry so after winter the blankets have rotted away. In some mountain areas in north & ne Thailand overnight temps often get down to zero

Go to the main bus station in CM called Arcade. Buses to Chiang Rai go via Wiang Pa Pao. Takes about 2 hours. Price varies on class of bus fan, a/c or vip. They leave all day mostly in the morning

You will not find a max. 28 degrees in Thailand in hot season. The coolest place in hot season is around where u r now. The south gets a more stable tropical temp year round. The east coast is coolest coz it gets the breeze off the ocean.
You could try around Betong or the area nw of Nakhon sri tammarat city

From the airport go to the highway. A green bus will come along about every 20 minutes going to Chiang Saen.Thats north so u will have to cross the road to get the bus going that way. It takes about 75 minutes. Don't get the bus to Mae Sai, its also green.
There are hotels & guest houses in Chiang Saen but none I would recommend
At the T junction in Chiang Saen [ next to the river] turn right to find pickups going to Chiang Khong. There are not many pickups & they do not run very late in the day.The pickups follow the Mekhong, good views.Sometimes there is a bus at about 3.30pm but this is not ever for sure.
Could also take a boat from Chiang Saen to Chiang Khong.Speedboats , take ear plugs .

The beach in Songkhla city is ok but not your classic tropical beach. The trees are casuarinas, not coconut. During December to Feb the sand is often washed away during the onshore storms plus lots of garbage & some oil covers the beach.
Theres a good beach a few miles south of town that is near a village with mainly muslims so not good for women in bikini
Exit Chiang Rai
