And follow you on the Thaivisa forum, yes possibly if your visa is not renovated you know why, your pc or mobile phone is a spy on your pocket or home pc and you take care and pay money for, what can go wrong

So you think they will track your PC using the IP-address? A bit paranoid? Have you heard about VPN? And what has the visa to do with the TM30? I am not a border hopping tourist like you.

Farang....who cares? Racist..........who knows? Trying to understand a Thai person is like trying to understand women.

As for trying to understand a Thai woman maybe 'Yinn' could give me some tips?

Anyway, it could be worse, I could be African - https://prachatai.com/english/node/7773

    Thais racist? Surely not.

Very long time ago the first people visiting Siam and the king came from France. They tried of course to explain where they came from and because of the language barrier and bad pronunciation etc it sounded like a bit like farang to the people they met. After that when people from other countries came, the locals thought they also came from France. If you ask a common Thai person today what farang means and the origin of the word, they don't have a clue. This was just a simplified explanation.

Yes very correct. If your guesthouse do not have an E-mail address stop with it, it is mandatory.

Also the address street name. My guesthouse have no street name, but able to put moo 9.

My guesthouse have no E-mail, lucky me.

We are not talking about people staying in a guesthouse or hotel. It's not your responsibility to submit a TM30 report as a guest there. So why are you even commenting my post?

Every restaurant I go there is a farang serving food... so clearly a lot of dudes to catch for the police.

Where do you eat? I have only been served once in many years by a farang, but he's a friend of mine and just carried the plate 5 meters, but he's well aware of what he can do or not in his restaurant. As a farang you officially need a wp to be allowed to do any task in a restaurant or bar. This is a fact!

I was told the very same thing at the tm30 desk and I think I told them I was on retirement extensions. So no I don't think you got elite treatment. I was told no fine for entering the system initially if you never have before. New one when reentering from outside Thailand. Not to do if returning from another province.

The not necessary TM30 report at Jomtien Immigration when coming back from another province (to the last reported address) has been like this for a quite long time. They are pragmatic about it and they don't need or want the time consuming paperwork. What is new, though, when coming back from abroad the TM30 has to be submitted within 3 days, not 24 hours.

"...detention is jail in one form of another..."

No, it isn't.  An Immigration department detention room is a million miles away from being a jail cell.

Immigration cannot grant bail to someone who is refused entry to the country, for obvious reasons.  Threats to society in two completely incomparable cases is irrelevant.

It said in The Nation that they confiscated his passport,so how did he leave the country, if he did?

It is interesting to read and as confusing as always....
    TM6, TM28, TM30, TM47...
This one you don't need to have, that one you have to but doesn't concern you... bla bla bla...

In this time of electronics... why don't they hand you an electronic card, having all relevant data, the moment you pass the immigration upon entering.

This card could then be the only ID required to carry around and all officials should be able to do their jobs...

You want to enter hotel ? use this card..

You need change adres ? use the card...

90 day reporting ? guess what... use the card...

leave the country ? hand in the card.. you receive a new one upon reentering...

The only place where as your card data can be changed is at the Immigration computer...

Only real officers can read your data, no more fake cops that try to extort tea money...

No more need to cary your passport and all those TM slips around anymore...

If you enter Thailand legit, you'l have a legit card... and the ease of only carying that around.

Think about the pro's and the ease and ad some of your own idea's... Think solution...

    Who are getting those cards?

Every tourist? 30-40 million tourists when entering Thailand? Shall immigration at the airport create a profile on a card with hundreds of people waiting for their turn?

    I don't think so.

Every expat? That might be possible. But then, that's just like an ID-card.

No country in the world have a card like that.

What about a tourist from outside the EU visiting for example France or Germany. If he wants to extend his visa (if possible) I would guess he has to visit the local immigration office or the equivalent.

    Your idea will never work.

You don't need to carry your passport all the time, and there's only one TM6 stapled inside your passport any given time, and it will soon be scrapped anyway.

The TM28 has never been enforced, only Phuket immigration talks about it. The TM47 in most of the provinces is only used when doing the first 90 days report, and never again. That leaves only the TM30. Several immigration offices don't require it when coming back from another province. How many expats leaves the country on a regular basis? Less than most people think. Ordinary tourists doesn't have to think about any of this. They carry a TM6 in the passport, that's all. Then we have the rest of the pack. The "tourists" doing endless visa/border runs and applying for TR visas in every neighbouring country,(and then switching to phony ED-visas). Those are the ones complaining the most about rules and regulations. The ones "almost" never complaining are expats staying here long term.

There will be changes, but there will probably never be 100% painless. But then again, who says life is easy?

So what is the point of filling in a TM30 online. Are they going to have armies of Immigration officials driving around checking the validity of the information?

If they know what they're doing they should be able to cross reference a new TM30 report online with an existing TM30 report in the database if you're staying at the same address. Every province doesn't require a TM30 when coming back from another province.

Its dependant on the office, some require a TM30 for everything, others dont care less. Jomtien immigration requires a TM30 to extend a TV or visa exempt. Otherwise a person on a 30/60 day stay wont be visiting immigration to be asked.

Its "required" by law, but may not be asked for if the local office doesn't enforce.

My local police dont care less about bike helmets, I wouldnt be saying its not required, its just not enforced locally. Over the hill in Pattaya you wont get 500 meters without a helmet.

We were talking about an ordinary tourist. They NEVER visit an immigration office anywhere, hence they never have to think about the TM30,and they don't even know about the TM30.

they you are they have no idea at all, HAVE THEY....one day it is this the next day it is that !!!

They know the exact numbers, but for some reason the boss for TAT comes up with fake numbers.

Several districts in Thailand have reported 30-50% less reservations compared to last year.

Thai Airways lost >6 billion baht the first 6 months this year.

In protest, several friends and I myself have decided to refuse to do the TM30 at all and just pay the fine.

The whole thing is ridiculous and an insult to foreigners. Immigration officers don't want it either as it just creates more work.

In protest you and your friends should pick another country to stay in.

OP, what Visa is your friend in Thailand on?

Only reason I ask is there was a news article on here the other day where the Chief IO in Phuket said the TM30 wasn't required for people on Visa Exempt, Tourist Visa, Investment Visa or Work Visa - In other words only required if you're on a Non-O for Marriage or > 50

The TM30 has never been required anywhere for a person on 30 days visa exempt or 60 days TR. Are you sure the article was about the TM30,and not the TM28? Was it the article with the picture?

You save all the hassle expats face with getting those monthly transfers in the correct format and on the correct day and no need to collate all the documentation. Plus avoid all that stress that people suffer. Money is available to spend on what you want or invest. 12,500 baht seems a fair deal to me

Everybody doesn't use the >65k monthly. Instead they go for the >800k in the bank. There are still people using an agent for this method. That tells me those people don't have a clue how to do it themselves, and they will never learn.

  14. 1 hour ago, Benmart said:

Yesterday, at Jomtien/Chonburi Immigration, I did my extention using the 800k method and received my appointment slip to return in 90 days to verify the 800k is still in the bank. I shall comply.

The "why", the "what if" and the weighing of the "consequences" of not doing so doesn't fit into my lifestyle.

Much like crossing the street with my eyes closed, something bad can happen or perhaps nothing at all. I prefer to keep my eyes open and enjoy the walk.

If you can time the >800k 90 days check (if possible) with next 90 days report, then it's even better.

For me, the 12,000 baht includes the cost of the extension and a multiple re-entry permit. The agent's fee is 5500 baht.

I've been using an agent for ten years, and I prefer the convenience. Plus the knowledge I won't have to deal with the occasional IO who is in a <deleted>ty mood. If you want to spend your money on something else, your choice.

My last 1 year extension application took exactly 3min at Immigration. I spent 6-7 minutes at the bank for my bank letter. My bank is 80 meters from Immigration. It takes me 5 min to copy the papers (5 baht/copy) I need, then a few min to sign them. I picked up the passport next day, another 3min including a photo taken. That cost me 1900 baht, and with no problems what so ever.

Do the math, you think I should spend 12000 baht for what I just told you? Why don't you just admit that you don't have a clue how to do it yourself.

Friend of mine said the exact same thing as the OP, just the other day. Jomtien...no look, no receipt, said he was good to go.

I am staying in Jomtien, I always get a receipt for the 1900 baht extension. They look through the documents and I have to sign a couple of times. When I pick up my passport next day, they take a digital photo that goes into the computer.

It's always the same girl behind desk 8 who gives the passport back.

I don't really believe what your friend and OP says.
