    Absolutely correct Portugal is the no.1 place to be. Look at surveys by the professionals who deal with retirement. Thailand was safe and cheap but not any more.

    Central, north & north east UK can travel to Thailand via Dubai. Cuts out a hectic and expensive trip to Heathrow. BA are not stupid they will have done the research.

    My journey to Surat Thani from Hua Hin in overnight executive class was not an experience I would repeat again. I skipped my return and flew to Bangkok and took a taxi back to hua Hin.

    Digital = less people. They need to keep people employed at all costs always been the case always will be. Just look at the banking sector which has many similarities. It's a case of if you don't like it go somewhere else.

    Why worry about Thailand and Chinese control. 80% of Thais are Chinese anyway. I'd rather be a chink than a yank they say.

    Try wearing a mask with a hearing aid and spectacles. Thais put mask on when they leave home so you see them with mask and no helmet. If you understand Thais, they put it on so they won't forget to take it. Don't be so hypercritical about the Thai culture as a nation of inhernt risk takers, it not your life or country.

    I've been saying Bangkok for 23 years and Thais when talking to each other will not call it Bangkok. And basically who cares, if I got in a taxi and said Pataya in Geordie I would get to petheya in Thailand.
