There is a line in clause 2.18 of for extension based upon being a member of a Thai.

"(5) In the case of parents, the father or mother must maintain an average annual income of no less than Baht 40,000 per month throughout the year or must have deposited funds of no less than Baht 400,000 to cover expenses for one year.
In case the father of mother requests to be under maintenance of children, the age of father or mother must be 50 years of age or over."

You would still need to apply for the extensions but you could give them permission to do most everything for you.

Can you please provide link to the page for this information.

I have not been able to find it. Thanks for your kind help.

  2. I am the Father of two Thai Boys who are grown now.

I have been using Retirement visa extensions for the past 12 years,

and although I will receive my Military and SS pensions for life,

I want to know if there are any provisions (Visa) for Thai Children to take care of their Expat Father ?

As I am 74 now, in a wheelchair and it is getting harder for me to do all the running around needed for extensions.

Can my sons take care of me ?

  3. I am the guy that met my wife in Bangkok and then found myself in Phrae, where her family home was located. This small town now has everything I need to make life both comfortable and reasonably cost effective for a 74 Year old Expat Retiree. There are the Thai Hospital, Christian Hospital, and Phrae Ram Hospital, not to mention many good Clinics available.

There is a Local Airport that connects you with Bangkok an Chaing Mai (2 1/2 hour drive), also Bus station, and Train Station in Den Chai (45 min drive). A new Immigration Office will open here last of September. Along with Big C, Tesco, and Makro stores where you can get most all Expat Food supplies. Many rentals and other offers to make your Home possible. It is a Good and Laid back life here. I have to admit having a Thai Family and Children, makes all the difference in the world.

All that said: You never know what new schemes or Red Tape Immigration will come up with next.

This latest round over the TM30 issue, and Income rules, is almost the straw that breaks the camels back. So unless you have a Very good reason for coming to Thailand, I would suggest settling in Cambodia, Laos, or Vietnam (If your American), where you can get a 1 year visa by paying $300 to $500 with out all the Red Tape BS, and be done with it, you can then visit Thailand from there.

  4. Been in Thailand 13 years on Retiree Extensions, with Thai Family and Children here.

Seems like they never cut us a Break, just add more Red Tape causing added problems.

Where is the Respect for Elders ?  Understanding that the 55 and Older crowd is never

any security threat, especially those with Family and Children, Why keep turning the screws ?

They should give retirees red tape exemptions, after being here more than two years with no problems. If I did not have Family here, I would go to Cambodia, Vietnam, or Laos, where you

pay $300 to $500 and are done for 1 year, without all the added hassles.

Still waiting for Thailand to get some Common Sense, and grow up to Modern Rules, like other

    SE Asia countries.

  5. For the last 13 years I used the income letter given by the US Consulate,

now that they don't give those anymore, I have been going around and around,

with both Immigration and Bangkok bank to get the info needed for doing the monthly income method.

    What I have found out:

1- You need a letter from your bank confirming Your Name tied to the Account Number.

Must be full name which matches both your passport and bank account.

2- You need a letter from your bank detailing all deposits for last 12 months, all must show International transfers from outside Thailand. You have to order this from your bank, and it

can take 5 to 7 days depending on which bank. BE SURE IT HAS BANK BAL TOTAL INCLUDED.

3-You also need to have normal 6 month printout from your bank, UPDATE YOUR BOOK FIRST

4-ALSO bring your Yellow House book with you, may not be required, but best be prepared.

5-If you can get printout of 12 Month history from your Foreign Bank, to match with deposits,

it will help, but is not always needed.

6-You may need to prove you receive a SS or Other Monthly Pension,

Can use Foreign Bank Deposit Records which show Monthly Pension payments.

Never know what the IO bureaucrat will ask for, as it is Totally at his discretion, and can vary

from one to another. Which means Bad Day Unlucky for you, Good Day Sail on through.

Hope this Helps lessen the load for my fellow Expats.
