I hate to hear stories like yours.   But when i dare to give my (very poor) assessment of the treatment one often gets by doctors and hospitals and insurance companies I am  outshouted by the "go see a doctor, you dummy"  crowd.

Keep trying to find a good and caring and patient doctor who will honestly try to get all the facts instead of checking his facebook or his watch when talking ( and maybe listening )  to you.

    good luck

    THANK you Rumak!!!!!

Your post is right on.   The sad truth is that people ( the patients) , are also brainwashed .  The art of

critical thinking has never been lower than it is now.   sad sad sad.    It is the rare human that can learn by reading, thinking, and some tough trial and error, what the best long term solution is to the

terrible health most humans are in.

If one can start to think and question when young,  that is the best.  If not,  try now.  Heck, can't be much worse than what the OP is going through.

I lost a lot of money by a lot of "specialists"! The only one I can trust is the general doctor in Mission who is from Australia!

I think we have now established that:

OP dies not have prostatitis. He has an enlarged prostate, presumably BPH.

    2. His dizziness predates the prostate meds.

    OP:

    1. Where in Thailand do you live? It may help to see a sowcialist in vertigo.

    2. Please list all medications you are on.

    3. When do you feel dizzy? Is it on changing position? Getting up after lying/sitting down?  When you move yoyr head? Etc

    1. BKK

    2. only Atorvastatin and Doxazosin

    3. Always, the whole day until I go to bed!

Have you spoken to your general doctor about all these issues?  You have more issues than BPH. You need to see an internist for a full medical exam. I would stop experimenting with different supplements. People can only give you advice based on what they read or their own experiences. Such as I did. But you need a full medical work up given your age and numerous symptoms.

Yeah! I visited various hospitals and spended lots of money and they made also MRI scans. And their answer is: "go to a sleeping doctor"!

You could ask your doctor for an alternative BPH medicine to see if that helps reduce the dizziness.

I used to take alfuzosin which gave me serious dizziness problems. After I mentioned this, my doctor switched me to tamsulosin which actually had a better effect on the symptoms of BPH (for me) and produced no dizziness at all.

Yeah! But I cannot find Tamsulosin in a "normal" pharmacy in Bangkok where I live!

  6. THANK you all for your answers! To be clear I couldn't understand the doctor very well, but I understood (he went very very short with his finger in my anus and said that my prostate is very big). That was it and he gave me 4 Mg. Daxazosin for three months. So, after your answers I can understand that it is BPH!

I went to him because I had already some time urinating problems (too many times) in the night and if I couldn't sleep enough because of that I don't know. But I had already a long time problems with increasing "dizziness" which could have been caused by brain problems! I got from my general doctor 20 Mg. Atorvastatin.

My blood pressure which I check quit frequent is jumping up and down I think caused by the medicines but never higher than 150!

My problem is now the increasing dizziness and tiredness and I know that almost all the medicines are causing those problems and I'm getting very, very bored of that because I can almost do nothing anymore and I was a year ago always going somewhere with my camera or working in the garden!

I start investigating the "vitamins" like Ultra Prostate Formule / prostate Gemix and there are lots more! Somebody has some experience with that?

I stop in the mean time with the Melatonin!

  7. I am 78. I am suffering a long time in getting dizzy and tired. My general doctor gave me over time different medicines which didn't helped and / or make me more dizzy. The last he prescribed me 2 Mg Doxazosin before bedtime. At the end I went to an urologic who gave me 3 months Doxazosin but 4 Mg! I am getting more and more dizzy and tired although I urinate a bit less in the night. But now I almost cannot walk anymore without a stick, I loose my balance! I take 10 Mg. Melatonin to get into sleep. Since two weeks I have also DTAM cannabis from which I take 5 drops before sleeping. I really don't know how to survive like that!

The dizziness may be unrelated and in itself needs investigation. Could be cardiac cause. Or could be an inner ear problem. When did you last have a complete check up?

For the prostate you need to see a good urologist. Where in Thailand are you?

I went yesterday to an urologist in a government hospital Sheryl in Bangkok and after a lot of waiting (of course) he investigated by means of sticking his finger in my as and said that my prostate is very big so he gave me 4 mg. Doxazosin for two months! I hope that it helps to finish my dizziness and sleepiness finally! Thanks for your answer!

I have very large coffee cups, more like soup bowls with a handle, and I'd have one after dinner every night around 6:00. Since stopping that, sleep is much better. One trip a night I can handle.

VERY good! I think it all depends of the age!

After reading posts, I stopped drinking coffee past noon. I used to make several trips to the loo over the course of the night. Now down to one trip around 2:00.

And he recommended to continue with Firide 5 mg and Doxazocin 2 mg. However the working of Firide is 1/2 year!

    I don't drink coffee after 13:00 h. J Town!

Out of curiosity: how did they test you for bacterial infection of the prostate? What bacteria was identified and how was it treated?

Somtummm, I just went to my general (American) doctor and he said, what I wanted to do, to go to an urologist so I don't know yet!

  13. THANK you for all your (positive) answers in this difficult question! As there seems to be more specialists involved I go next week talking with my general doctor. There are two important things and that's my age: 1 is around the prostate which is the easiest "problem" I think and 2 is my head (Neurologist) who cannot do almost anything but giving medicines. I visited already loads of Neurologists, showed them the MRI scans and they only gave me medicines and said "go to a sleeping doctor" who is no specialist!

I don't have sugar, my measurement is before breakfast around 97! My blood pressure is also ok. A short time ago I got an answer from a pensioned doctor in Thailand that an operation for prostate cancer is not useful on my age: I am not getting one day older on my age! I better do a Green Laser treatment!

  14. 10 hours ago, Sheryl said:

This is not a diagnostic scan. This is a surgical treatment to reduce the size of the prostate in BPH. Not available in Thailand as far as I know.  Before even thinking about such treatments you need to get a handle on your condition: size of the prostate, whether any indication of cancer or inflammation.

if there is an Australian doctor practicing i nBangkok please send me the deatils (either posting here or by PM). Or did you mean Dr. Ian in Pattaya?

As mentioned you definitely need to see a  urologist for proper diagnosis. I do not know what you mean by a "green scan". The tests you need for sure are a PSA and a manual rectal exam, and possible, depending on the results of these, an ultrasound. Note that for the PSA it is important not to ejaculate for at least 72 hours prior as it can throw off the results.

    You had my messages Sheryl?

    "

    How GreenLight Laser Prostatectomy Works

GreenLight laser prostatectomy is a procedure in which the excess prostate tissue is removed to relieve constriction of the urethra, allowing easy passage of urine.

During the procedure, which is also known as photoselective vaporization of the prostate (PVP), the patient is sedated. The physician passes a cystoscope, a thin tube with a very small camera, into the urethra, the vessel that carries urine from the bladder through the penis and out of the body. A small fiber that transmits laser energy is then passed through the cystoscope.

The laser is used to vaporize excess prostate tissue that is limiting the flow of urine. Most patients can expect very rapid relief of their BPH symptoms, often within 24 hours of GreenLight Laser prostatectomy.

For most men, GreenLight laser prostatectomy is an outpatient procedure, allowing them to return home the same day."

    OP,

Not sleeping well will certainly make you tired but would not account for the dizziness. From the additional medical history you have now provided I suspect the cause is neurological and you had best see a neurologist, bringing all your past records with you. Assoc.Prof.Dr. Kanokwan Boonyapisit is very good and can be seen at either Bumrungrad or Siriraj

    https://www.bumrungrad.com/en/doctors/Kanokwan-Boonyapisit

    You may need an EEG

It also sounds like your sleep problems are of long standing and you were advised to have a sleep study to see if you had sleep apnea but did not do so, is that correct?

I am confused by the fact that you are on both finasteride and doxazosin but seem to have never seen a urologist. Who advised you to take these? Have you never had a PSA  or manual prostate exam? An ultrasound? For your symptoms, both prostate cancer and prostate infection/inflammation (prostatitis) need to be rules out before attributing it entirely to benign enlargement. Again you need to see a good urologist. In Bangkok, I recommend this doctor:

    https://www.bumrungrad.com/en/doctors/Viroj-Chodchoy

Can get a PSA level done first at an outside lab to save money.

When you say you are planning to go to your Australian doctor, do you mean you intend to return to Australia (and is that possible with COVID restrictions?)

No, the Australian is a doctor here in a hospital!

Concerning the "sleep apnea" I slept good before so I think it was that they couldn't help me more!

Those two medicines are given by my "standard" Australian doctor.

No, I didn't had an prostate exam that's why I concluded to do a "Green Scam".

Get your prostate checked. If it's enlarged, and it certainly sounds like it because you're having to pee so often during the night, there are medical solutions ( not quackery ) to make things better. As others have said, see your doctor.

Thank you TigerandDog! I ask for a "Save Scan"!
