  1. For my main bank in my home country I have two checking accounts. One is for money going in and the other for money going out.

For making credit card or other payments (Paypal, Transferwise, etc), I give the "outbound" account number. That account I keep very little in and only transfer money in right before the money is due to go out.

Nobody other than my employer gets "inbound" checking account.

  2. 29 minutes ago, owl sees all said:

I'm glad I stayed out of it TBH.

That's usually the best course of action for me. Don't get involved in the minutiae and everything goes through the wife.

I've had some family members come to me directly in the past asking for money and they always got redirected to the wife.

Too many times I'd ask about it later and it would turn out to be BS.

  3. You get divorced in the country you both reside in. If the divorce is contentious, I've heard of the husband or wife picking up and moving to try to establish residency of a jurisdiction they will consider "friendlier" with regards to alimony, child support, etc.

If you both agree to the divorce and can agree to the terms of who gets what, Guam is a popular divorce destination as it only requires 7 days of "residency" to file for divorce there.

I have a friend who talked with a lawyer in Guam beforehand to schedule everything and he flew there, met with the lawyer the next day (day 1) to sign paperwork, then spent the next 6 days on vacation there. On day 8, the lawyer filed the paperwork and he was able to leave. Divorce granted a short time later.

  4. Just an FYI, there is a difference between AppleCare and AppleCare+.

AppleCare+ is coverage you can buy in the US, Thailand and other countries that covers 2 cases of accidental damage (drops, etc) per year.

AppleCare (without the +) is coverage that you can buy in other countries (like the Philippines) that doesn't cover accidental damage.

You'll need to check your phone serial number on the Apple website to see which plan your device is covered under.

I had an iPhone with AppleCare+ get accidentally damaged in the Philippines and it was a huge hassle getting it fixed there as they didnt want to honor the AppleCare+ since they dont sell that coverage there.

    Good luck!

  5. If you burn the Linux ISO to CD, you dont even have to install it on your PC.

Just boot the computer off of the CD and it will run there temporarily. Long enough for you to plug in the wonky USB drive to see if you can get your files off it and copied onto a 2nd USB drive.

  6. A dash cam is definitely worth it nowadays with the number of scammers about trying for an easy pay day.

I bought a Viofo A119S last year on recommendation from dashcamtalk.com

They do constant reviews and updates and have a "Best of" every year with several recommendations based on your usage.

For you USB flash drive, have you tried booting up a computer into Linux and seeing if it can read your files?

If you have a computer with an optical drive, just download an Ubuntu ISO, burn it to CD, boot the computer from the CD and see if that will read your flash drive. Good luck!
