And if Mitch really does want Trump gone for good, he'll back the process. We'll see, but nothing happening until the senate reconvenes on the 19th. And when he loses his job. Yeah!!!
Members of the Senate can say what they want, but effective Jan 20, joseph is running the show. He has stated he is concerned that the trial will take focus away from whatever it is he is going to do.

We'll have to see what biden does, go through with this plan right away, or have Trump's trial right away. Can't do both at the same time.

Just a continuation of the effort started in 2016, five minutes after he was elected.

I read somewhere that impeachment will remove all his benefits, including the pension and secret service protection provided to former Presidents. I'm not certain of this.

They will. They're operating on pure emotion now, no rational thought whatsoever.

How is Trump a "cop killer"?

13 hours ago, cmarshall said:Unfortunately, trying the President for impeachment after he has left office is probably unconstitutional. If McConnell were serious about getting rid of Trump he and Schumer would have called the Senate back into emergency session to conduct the trial before Trump leaves office.
The Impeachment Clause, Article II, Section 4 states:
The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.
It seems pretty clear that the point of impeachment is removal from office. A former president cannot be removed from office and is therefore not subject to impeachment.
Therefore, if the Senate goes ahead and tries Trump after Jan. 20 and if, big "If," they can muster a two thirds vote in the Senate to convict, I expect a court will subsequently overturn the conviction.
I understand the case that is being made for the opposite view, but I think it is weak.
Yeah, it really is unfortunate. I was hoping they'd impeach George Washington for owning slaves.

The anti Trump crowd in DC has become totally unhinged and the American people see it. An over emotional reaction to a speech where Trump said he wanted a peaceful protest. A long trial in the Senate will only help Trump and hurt Nancy and gang. More facts will come out. Pelosi, operating on emotion only, has guaranteed Trump's exoneration and reelection in 2024.

I'm going to fly to Bangkok on business. I am aware of the Mor Chana app, but do the powers that be require some kind of document justifying the need to travel?
Thanks in advance.

Consider all the security when they have big events such as the State of the Union, or the inauguration. They have aircraft above and a perimeter set up.
For this they had virtually nothing. They knew they had thousands of angry people who felt the election had been stolen from their candidate, yet there was virtually no security.
The Capitol Police answer to congress. This entire mess has Pelosi's and McConnell's fingerprints all over it.

A weak point in this plan is verifying that the foreigner has actually been vaccinated. Certificates can by forged, immigration officials and doctors can be bribed.

A re-education camp?
Have many been established recently-lurking in the nooks and crannies of the American landscape one presumes?
All that starts in one week.

The virus is here to stay, shutting down the Gym isn’t going to save lives. It’s time to learn to LIVE WITH IT and stop shutting down everything because you are afraid of a flu virus with a 99% survival rate.
Somehow shutting down gyms, yet optional construction work that is certainly non essential gets to keep on going. Not even my condo building has their fitness center open despite the fact that their is zero cases within a good 30km from here, but somehow crowded shopping malls, MASSAGE PARLORS, and Parks get to stay open. Pure incompetence.
Be thankful you don't live in the US where you would be sent to a reeducation camp for such thoughts.
The shutdown is part of the new world order, Comrade. Learn to love it.

Well, finally, something to unite the country. Anti Trumpers are chomping at the bit for a trial as are Trump supporters. Looks like Trump will present evidence that the courts refused to hear.

Now it's sinking in: Wednesday's Capitol Hill riot was even more violent than it first appeared
Only later did it become clear that lawmakers feared for their lives; that some of the attackers were hunting for congressional leaders; that there could have been a massacre.
The fuller videos that came out on Thursday and Friday provided much more detail. The Daily podcast from The New York Times played audio clips of rioters chanting "Where's Mike Pence? Where's Mike Pence? Where is Mike Pence? Find Mike Pence."
A fraternity prank gone awry. Agree the lawmakers, ie the elitists, feared for their lives because they are gutless wonders with no sense of humor. There was a similar scene in "Animal House"

Breaking news. Pence has told some he's not ruling out the 25th amendment in case Trump's mental state gets worse. Apparently, he's going downhill fast. Just watching TV.
Good luck with that. Chao and Devos have bailed in order to avoid dealing with that possible but highly unlikely scenario.

Capitol Police were woefully unprepared; perhaps even complicit.
They answer to congress, NOT Trump.

From a well-known Trump supporter commenting on the Capitol takeover:
"The enemy flinched."

One thing this takeover and the aftermath proves, the elites, both Republican and Democrat, as well as the social media gatekeepers (Jack and Zuckerberg) are terrified of Trump. Permanent suspension from FB and Twitter? No need at all for that. At most until Jan 20.
Maybe Trump has something on the elites. Who knows.

In something that looked like a scene out of the movie "Animal House," a small gang of trouble makers (fraternity boys?), one wearing horns, struck fear in the hearts of the nation's elite, some of whom fled to security bunkers. Even on this forum many appear to be terrified of what might happen next. Trump on social media once again assured the nation he would leave the White House on January 20th. He also denounced the rascals who took over the Capitol. He stopped short of putting them on "double secret probation" (see the movie).
Time to come out guys, everything is fine.
