I'm not sure why some people are calling the girl a money grabber.

Why would a (relatively) young and (relatively) good looking girl want to marry someone much older, with a lack of charisma and with his physical appearance if he can't even provide for her financially? I mean, what exactly is he bringing to the party? Does he think that simply being a Westerner entitles him to marry a pretty young girl?

I actually think he was the one being greedy.

First you say you're not sure why people call her a money grabber....

And then you give 4 solid reasons why she actually is one...

Are you sure now? Or still not so sure?

    ????

  2. My 1st time I used Grab, was in Phuket, somewhere far from the city.

I needed a taxi at 5am, and was sure I couldn't find one that early so I made a booking the evening before.

Great experience, clean car, friendly driver and cheap.

After that I used it in Malaysia, many times, and a few times in Bangkok.

Last time i used a Grab bike as well.

I have nothing but good things to say about it.

They are always nice people, drive safely and I just wait 2-3 minutes.

They also seem to be much cheaper.

Now, don't ask me about my experiences with regular taxis or win bikes over the years....

I can write a book about it

    a thriller

repay £600,000 made from the crimes he was jailed for in 2013, within three months, or face another five years in prison, and still owe the money

5 years in prison, and then STILL have to pay, which he cannot by having a normal job, so probably back to jail after those 5 years?

His debt of £585,403.28, plus interest totalling £134,766.39, remains and increases by £128.31 a day until paid.

    128 GBP/day..on top of the 600.000 GBP

Who can pay that daily? and also pay of the initial debt at the same time?

    That's about 1,000 GBP/month, if he'd pay for the next 60 years....

I understand why he fled abroad, it's just insane.

    For cigarettes?

I have seen lesser punishments for far worse crimes.

    But hey, death and taxes...

You need to read more about extraterritorial jurisdiction.  Truly laughable if you think a federal prosecutor will spend the time for this..

I gave you a link on crimes that can be prosecuted by federal courts and the conditions that must be met... try reading it.

Sorry but a Thai police report isn't worth the paper it was printed on .... the medical report doesn't shed light on anything other than her injuries and their treatment.

What kind of trial doesn't have witnesses....provide concrete examples, if you can.  The accused has a right to cross-examine the accuser and witnesses... naught to do with netflix...

She has a police report and a medical report,,,, case closed. You really are genius...ROFLMAO  Is that really all it takes????!!!!! WOW!!! I wonder how come they couldn't convict OJ..   oh that's right the glove didn't fit..... 55555

You may be right the case is closed unless The Government of Thailand can extradite the guy back to Thailand

    What case doesn't have witnesses?

Well, a civil assault case like this one.

You should do so more reading.

You clearly watch CSI too much.

I really can't spend time on people who think they know something and need to google it to proof they're right, but still don't know in the end...

That's not correct.... only some offenses committed by US citizens abroad can be prosecuted in the US at the federal level.  Congress has to explicitly decree that a law applies outside of the US ( https://fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/94-166.pdf ).  States, counties, or cities have no jurisdiction and cannot prosecute.

She could certainly try to sue .... but good luck getting the taxi driver to the US to testify....

Firstly, it would go to the district court.

Congress has nothing to approve, it is the law already that punishable offenses in the US can be tried if they are committed overseas by American citizens, which both of them are.

States, counties, or cities have no jurisdiction and cannot prosecute.

    euh...what? roflmao

Getting a taxi driver to testify?

Not every case needs witnesses. It's not Netflix.

She has a police and medical report.

    Case closed.

The other day i forgot my DL. During a control the police officer took my motorbike and condo keys (same ring) and i was told to "TAKE A MOTOTAXI!" when i asked to give it back to me in order to go to the station and pay the fine. Then he walked away ignoring me.

Really felt i was treated like a piece of trash and i won't forget.

Did he give the keys back then? How else would you be able to enter your condo?

He cannot take your keys or bike, and I would make a big issue out of it.

Regardless what other people think, if you show you know the law and resist, they'll back off.

You should have taken a picture of him and gone straight to the police station.

After all, you have 4 days time to show your DL if you forgot it, and the office at the desk might know the law better.

Let us know what happened afterwards pls.

    Cheers

Right, Thailand won't send murders back to the country they murdered in, but but a foreigner punching his thai girlfriend, yeah sure why not; wait for it; LETS EXTRADITE!

The guys a ----, but seriously this is getting ridiculous.

It's not up to Thailand, but up to the girl and how willing she is to hire a good lawyer.

She might even ask Vern if he knows a good one.

Assault and dislocating a jaw IS a serious offense, and since he ran away, her lawyer might even add some other circumstances.

However, she can just as easily sue in him in his home state (which is the same as hers in this case)

because,....wait for it...., offenses punishable by law in the US, that are committed by an American citizen overseas, can be tried in the US.

If she only has the guts to do so

    A couple of points....
he has already left Thailand as reported in the post...
As the offence took place in Thailand he can only be taken to court in Thailand.. the USA courts can do nothing.

    That is incorrect.

    That woman has 2 options.

    1. File charges here for assault.

The guy will be extradited and face jail time in thailand.

    2. File charges in the US and he will be tried there, because the same offense is punishable under US law.

Only offenses that are not punishable in the US cannot be tried there when committed abroad.

  9. No matter the reason for the mob lynch, it is assault.

He can sue, and win this case easily.

There is nothing he can have done to provoke such a reaction and it could have ended much much worse.

I have never been in such a situation, but I would sue.

    500 baht my momma

To the poster above me: some kind of retribution?

really? for parking in a customers only parking area?

In Europe you car can get hauled, or you can get a fine

Noway physical assault is a proper reaction.

TiT, i know, but that is no excuse.

This looked barbaric to say the least

  10. Some questions arise:

Why would those 2 Chinese guys want to work there?

    At a warehouse?

Wouldn't they get a higher salary at home, not having to stay in a foreign country with all the hassles?

And why are there no Thai employees?

Is it hard to find 2 people to work in a warehouse?

    Is the salary too low?

That brings us back to the first question...

Thai employers also get fined 100.000 baht / or jail term when employing without work permit

that is...if the law is applied of course
