Thanks for your reply: her last visa grant, in Nov 2019 was the 3 year multi, but of course she lost over 2 years usage due to the border lockdowns. She has been granted about 4 or 5 tourist visas over the past decade, so I'm not expecting any hassles, I own my home in Oz and have a sizable bank balance, so they're big pluses, in addition she has a very good track record of not breaking any visa conditions.

All previous applications have been hard copies, so never done it before by the immi account. She already has an immi account and I've already started some of the filling in. I'll prepare all the supporting docs and save them as pdfs.

What I'm not clear about is this: In the past I just made copies of all the docs and included them with the application, but I see now they want everything certified. So all these pdfs have to be certified first? In the past I gave bank balance statements, mine and hers, now they say the statements have to show 6 months of transactions. Before I included a copy of her chanote, but now all Thai docs have to be translated and certified.

Hi, I believe it all changed to online after covid as before we had to submit the hard copies to VFS.

As for certifying documents, we didn't other than having my wife signature on each. All docs were from offical sources anyway, bank, chanote, etc.

My wife self funded herself but we included our marriage cert as well. I also added my name as someone traveling with her.

I included a letter from me saying my wife is visiting family with me. Also a brief but open itinerary of our stay.

I think with the 6 mth bank statement they are looking for regular deposits and withdraws not just a lump sum deposit. You could add that you will support her during your stay at your property but I'm sure they already expect that.

I don't think you will have a problem as your wife has been previously on a few occasions and always returned.

  2. You will need to do the application through the Home Affairs website. Register an immi account and complete the application.

Use the same information from previous successful applications. Even if you think it's not necessary, upload as many documents as you can to support her application. Particularly bank statements, chanotes, and other income such as work or business.

Because your wife has visited in the past and returned, it will help to support her application. After you have submitted the application, you will be asked to provide biometrics. Even if you have done this in the past, it's still required. Follow the instructions and make an online booking with VFS Global. This will allow her to use the smart gates when entering and departing.

When I did my wife's application last July the approval time was 4 months, however, it was approved in 5 weeks. So keep that in mind before booking tickets.

    You are right.

I gamble a lot in Vietnam, and while it is technically illegal for Vietnamese to gamble or even enter a Casino, any local with a foreign passport can enter...and there must be a roaring trade on second passports, as there are a lot of Vietnamese gamblers.

The wealthy Thai's already have second passports and they will find the loophole.

There is a casino on Phu Quoc island, Corona resort & Casino that allows local Vietnamese to play. It was opened in 2019 under a 3 trial. There are conditions for locals to enter they must have a monthly income of 10m VND and pay an entrance fee of 1m VND which is valid for 24hrs. Similar model to Singapore.

But you are right about the foreigner only Casino's there are a lot of Vietnames with foreign passports.

...and if you think that any of the countries on the list are the targets then you are even more "foolishly wrong".

They all have their own Casino's. They rarely travel to gamble.

A Thai Casino is squarely aimed at the Asian market, and everything will be geared to them...and they won't be able to keep the Thai's out...

If they let one of the great Casino Operators run it, it will be world class and put Thailand on the gamblers map...but they won't. They just have to look at Singapore...but they won't...

I agree it can be world class but getting any of the great casino operators to invest and manage will depend on whether locals can enter.

If it's only for foreigners then they won't be interested.

A few years ago Las Vegas Sands (LVS) put forward a proposal to open a casino in Ho Chi Minh with the condition that locals were allowed to enter and play. The Vietnames government said no and LVS walked away. This is definitely on the Thai governments agenda but at moment I think they're just probing the local reaction to all the news reports to see if it's favourable to move forward.

Casinos aren't legal in China, which is undoubtedly where the push for this has come from. This will be casinos built by Chinese, run by Chinese, and frequented almost exclusively by Chinese, with the profits going back to China. There will be a boom for local construction workers, and jobs for locals working in them, but the thousands of Chinese tourists will do nothing for the rest of the town's economy. Anyone who has ever been to Macao, which is China's main casino area (local laws apply), will know how utterly dead the place is, despite the 3 million tourists who go there each year.

Pattaya (where this will no doubt end up) will have a seafront of hotels/casinos, and Walking Street will become a street of shops and restaurants.

Actually Macau isn't that quiet. Excluding 2020 & 2021 because of covid Macau received 39.4 million tourists in 2019 which is only 400k less then what Thailand received in the same year. Plus it has a population of 680,000.

Also when you take into account the size of Macau in land area (32.9 km squared) its far from being quiet.

@ravipthanks for the quick reply.  It would be very useful and helpful if i was looking for Instant yeast.   Since you have mastered google so well, do a search "whats the difference between Active-dry yeast and Instant yeast"

    Keep safe

Depending on where you live (as not all carry the same products) Makro do sell a number of instant dry yeast products which can be found in their flour section.

As for the difference between active and Instant I found a link that should help to explain.

  7. I tried to login this morning using my account with the Bumrungrad website. The system was overloaded but I finally got in the queue at 8:40. Got down to a 1 min waiting time at 9am before it timed out.

I was also logged into their app using my account but same result after pressing the button for moderna registration. Got down to 2min waiting time before the service became unavailable around 9:40.

There will be another round of registrations at 9am tomorrow. Not sure how many days it's scheduled for. To apply you will need to be registered with Bumrungrad and have a HN number.Screenshot_20210709-100445_Chrome.thumb.jpg.575e58ec77e82434ba7846c381e75c7a.jpg

    Food.

    Customer Service.

    Hospitality.

Variety of natural landscapes (and taken care of far better).

    Honesty & no dual pricing.

I'd even go as far to say they may even be nicer/friendlier than most of the Thais these days.

My wife is Thai but neither she nor I are blind to the benefits of Vietnam.  We both would like to go back after covid is 'over', we both immensely enjoyed it.

I agree everything you said except for food. Thailands cuisine is far superior to Vietnam but that's my opinion.

The prices are the same...  try it.

If you look up a B-Quik tyre on the Shopee page, then look at the same tyre on the B-Quik website - the same promotion exists (been through it before) - they’re simply using shopee as another form of exposure.

Yep done that and compared the price on the website which was the same as Shopee pressed the 20% discount on Monday at midnight and got the discount....Try it

  10. Hi you should try Shopee. In the search type in B-Quik official store.

I bought tires from them 2 weeks ago using the Shopee app. Fitting is included by you need to pay for balancing. On Mondays at midnight they have 20% off the price and a limited amount.

Also tonight they will have a special at midnight 6.6.21. 20% off but they also have a limited amount so you need to know what you want.

Once you place order B-Quik will contact you during office hours and ask you where and when you would like to have the tires fitted. They will send you a voucher in the Shopee app which you show at the B-Quik outlet that you nominated.

  11. All Rolex watches sold by an official Rolex dealer will come with a guarantee card or papers as well as the box it came in. If it's an old watch before 2006 the guarantee will be in paper form after that they changed to a credit card style. If Lost these papers can't not be replaced they are unique to the watch.

If the seller had bought the watch new then he will have them. Most Rolex buyers know the importance of the papers and the box, without them the value of the watch is less so ask him this question. If you want to have it checked then take it to MBK there are a number of shops that buy and sell watches. They will be able to tell you if it's real.

I kind of gathered they didn't seem to want to be too helpful parting with my money. I have retired. been retired since 48yo actually when I left Australia. Haven't worked in Thai or Australia. How do they ascertain you have retired? Is there any requirement?

That's what I need to find out, I'll speak with my financial guy. There has to be some form that you need to fill in. It can't be that easy to send them an email to  say I'm retired. When I find out I'll let you know.

  13. Kenny I'm sure you are aware however I didn't see it mentioned in any of your posts but inorder to take a lump sum or income stream at preservation age you need to meet one of the conditions below.

Taking a super lump sum is an option if you have reached your preservation age and met a condition of release. Your preservation age is between 55 and 60, depending on your date of birth. Standard conditions of release for lump sum super withdrawals are:

    • retirement,
    • ceasing an employment arrangement after the age of 60, even if you get a job with a new employer,
    • turning 65 years of age,
    • becoming permanently incapacitated,
    • being diagnosed with a terminal medical condition

We're both the same age and coincidently my birthday falls in May as well.

I've decided to take an income stream and I'm using retirement as the reason. I need to check with my financial planner what exactly I need to do, what forms or proof I need to show.

By the way these financial Super company's won't give you much info especially if you're withdrawing money, because they will receive less commission from you.

There are casino's in Vietnam and it works fine, Only non Vietnamese allowed in, foreigners only.

Thats not correct the Corona casino on Phu Quo Island, Vietnam was opened in 2018 and allows locals to enter and play. It was the first casino to be given the license and its part of a 3 year government trial, and they have more planned.

To enter locals must pay a levy of VND 1m and produce notarized documents to prove they have a monthly income of VND 10m.

The name unfortunately has been the brunt of jokes due to the Corona virus.
