I am not holding my breathe. I have a legal marraige to a Thai and we have been apart since February. As I am not retired, I am only with my wife in our condo in Thailand three or four months each year (she is sometimes with me outside of Thailand) so no visa other than 60 day tourist visa. Additionally, I hold a US passport, but have not been in the US since July 2019. Since Covid-19 started, I have only been in Thailand and South Korea (where I am now). I look forward to the clear and concise rules that are soon to be issued by the Thai authorities!

As a US passport holder who works in South Korea, I am wondering if, when foreigners are permitted entry again, I will be allowed back. I have not been in the United States since July 2019. I doubt there will be coherent policy statement.

Somebody who thinks he knows everything about Thai people: But doesn't.
I don't know if that is directed to me, but I certainly don't know everything about Thai people nor did I ever claim to.

What does your name and anyone being able to read English have to do with it? I think we all contribute to Thai society by spending our money here and frequenting their businesses.
Oh no! Do you know who I am? OMG!! I must change my ID stat! ????
OK...not sure what you're going on about. I never said anything about people not contributing.

Great way to pat yourself on the back. Keep it up and you'll have a looooong list of 'extended' family members turning up.
My stepson and my wife's grandma are here. No more.
I patted myself on the back and all others who contribute to Thai society. Since "John Florey" is not my real name and most of the extended family can't read English, I think I'll be ok though.

I just thought I'd post a positive contribution to Thailand by a foreigner, ie me. Thousands of other foreigners do the same because we love our families and because our wives' have extended families that are important to them and thus they are important to us.
How many on this forum have paid for or helped pay for shelter in the countryside for family members? How many have paid medical bills? How many have paid education fees?

Meaningless. What percentage of total Thais in Pattaya and what percentage of total foreigners in Pattaya were tested? It really is odd that media is trying to add racism to an already terrible situation.

I think the Thais working in Korea did not just “run away and get factory jobs”. All set up for them prior. And probably did border runs the same as many on here do.As they are Thai they must be allowed back in regardless.
First of all, and I am in Korea now, there is no "border run" here as the only land border is with North Korea. Second, yes, some factory jobs are set up prior to arriving, but the tour group runaway is very common. My Thai wife is warned whenever she passes through immigration at Incheon airport. Immigration Officers flat out say Thai Tour Groups often have this occur.

Credit card companies usually have the customers address, it would be highly unusual that they didn't, even in Thailand. I suspect you're looking at things from an avoidance perspective, I'm looking at the issue of what most normal people might have.
I doubt that illegal Thai workers in Korea have credit cards in either Thailand or Korea.

The funny thing is that most, though I am sure not all, of these Thais did the same thing in Korea. They arrive with tour groups and then run away to get factory jobs and stay well past their 90 days. These are people that all immigration officers should view skeptically.

After my two months in Thailand where my wife and I have our home, I just returned to South Korea where I work. Normally when getting off the plane I use the "Smart Immigration Pass" that Korean citizens and residents are both eligible to use. I was directed this time to go to an immigration counter, even though I should my "Smart Pass" sticker, while Koreans on the same flight were still permitted to use the pass and just swiped their passports. I asked the IO if a non-Korean was more likely than a Korean to have the virus. She looked at me confused so I just smiled and said "never mind". Fear makes countries do some illogical things.

This is the dumbest statement: "There was also the Indian and Thai market to help make up any shortfall."
As if Indians and Thais are going to Pattaya now, but wouldn't have if there was no "shortfall" in Chinese.

I did the process (registering the maariage) in Thailand a year and a half ago. My Thai wife and I were married 17 years ago in the US. I am writing strictly from memory so I hope I get it all right,
I understand you are not in Thailand so things may be a little different. I went to the US Embassy in Bangkok and got an affidavit stating that we were married in the US. I showed them our marraige license with the appostile (sp?). I also, and I don't know why, had to have my US passport "certified" at the US Embassy (I think for the amphur. I had been told to do this). I then went to a company in Thailand that translated my documents and sent them to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Got everything back in less than a week. My wife and I then went to the amphur and had of US marraige registered in Thailand.

I've no problem with Thailand enforcing their immigration laws and have no sympathy for chronic overstayers. My question is, what happens if you are not an overstayer, but are not carrying your passport (I guess that is against the law) or a copy. Are you hauled off to police headquarters for enhanced interrogation?

I am very much enjoying the sidewalks, beaches and shopping malls without the hordes of people. Keep panicking people! Wear your useless masks. Fear every North East Asian looking person. Avoid public spaces. I'll be out there, washing my hands frequently, but enjoying my time in Thailand. I'm middle aged, healthy and had a "normal" flu shot. Even if I get the damn thing, chances are, because I am not elderly, very young or have a comprimised immune system, I'll get over it. Cheers and good health!

That's bizarre. How does opening a Thai bank account for an American give that Thai bank "access to the US market"?
Do you really think that Thailand and Thai banks do not have access to the US market and that a few foreigners having accounts here would ever change that?
The issue is, if they do take US deposits, but don't comply with US reporting requirements for US depositors, they could be blocked from operating in the US.

I work in Asia and am legally married and registered at the amphur to a Thai woman (16 years married). We own a condo, in my wife's name, in Pattaya. I am only in Thailand three or four months each year and so am usually here on a 30 visa waiver or 60 day tourist visa that I obtain outside of Thailand. Does anyone know if any bank would allow me alone to open an account or, even better, get a joint account with my wife? Also, due to America's (I am US citizen) irritating bank reporting regulations, do banks in Thailand turn away U.S. depositors? In the future I'll be wanting to obtain a marraige visa, but not for a number of years. Thanks!

It’s not fact and it’s a bigoted and racially charged view.
You are wrong to single out the Chinese eating exotic food. China not the only country to eat exotic creatures. If you imply that eating is cause of the disease; you dead wrong as droppings and association rather than eating have been medically proven to be the causes.
Again wrong to claim flu variations come from China. MERS originated from Middle East. Normal flu is just as dangerous. In US between the months of Oct - Nov, 910-2,400 people died from flu and 16,000-29,000 people hospitalized according to CDC reports.
China is perhaps the only country in the world that can ordered a lockdown of a province of 11 million people by a single order. They are just as concern with the disease severity as the whole world. Many global health organizations including WHO are involved in stopping the spread. You can’t lie with such large exposure coverage by the world.
Not getting into the rest, but this is a good quote from the above: "China is perhaps the only country in the world that can ordered a lockdown of a province of 11 million people by a single order." I am sure the Uyghers and Falun Gong members appreciate this fact.

8 hours ago, DannyCarlton said:And your reasoning behind thinking that the final toll for coronavirus won't be the same or worse?
Because there have been thousands of strains of flu since then and we've not had a death toll that is even close. In the early 20th century virology was in its infancy. We now understand, to a much greater extent, how viruses are conveyed. Soldiers being quartered together and moving around the world in cramped ships is also not happening. But hey, if you stay in your room to its all over, good on ya. I'll be out having a beer or three.

Perhaps the Uyghers from the North West of China could come. They probably don't have Covid in the concentration camps.
