  2. In a shocking incident on the road, two cars were racing each other when a Mini Cooper collided with a school bus, resulting in injuries to 15 students. Simultaneously, the Porsche involved in the race crashed through the storefront. The high-speed race between the cars escalated as they sped down the road. However, they lost control, colliding with each other and veering across lanes, crashing into the barricade separating the parallel lanes meant for student transportation. This caused several students to sustain minor injuries, luckily avoiding any life-threatening conditions. Eyewitnesses in the neighborhood reported that both drivers were racing at high speeds, with several residents observing the incident. The race came to an abrupt end with significant damage. Yesterday (June 23)Chachoengsao City Police received a report of a traffic accident involving two vehicles, one being a school bus, on Highway 304 in Chachoengsao. The accident occurred near the front of a convenience store, just before reaching the PTT gas station at Mile 10, Bang Phai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chachoengsao, reported Sanook. Picture: Sanook At the scene, an Isuzu D-Max pickup truck, with a stainless steel frame covering the rear, was found overturned and lying sideways across the parallel lanes. The vehicle had the license plate number 7932 Chachoengsao. Additionally, a Mini Cooper, with the license plate number 7775 Bangkok, was parked diagonally in front, blocking both lanes of traffic, causing severe congestion, especially around the right side of the driver's door, where airbags were deployed. Furthermore, another vehicle involved in the accident was a Porsche, with the license plate number 9933 Bangkok, which crashed into the interior of a store selling fertilizer and betel leaves. It entered through the glass door, and in the process, a red motorcycle with the license plate number 4769 Chachoengsao, parked in front, was also swept inside. Picture: Sanook The injured individuals comprised a total of 15 people, including 13 students and one driver of the school bus, who drove a Mini Cooper. The majority of them sustained minor injuries, experiencing swelling and bruises throughout their bodies. Seven of the injured were immediately transported to Phutthasothorn Hospital. During the investigation, it was revealed that the Mini Cooper was driven by Mr. Krissatham Meth, 29 years old, while the Porsche was driven by Mr. Anuchit, 54 years old. The school bus was driven by Miss Nichanan, 30 years old. Picture: Sanook Picture: Sanook According to Mr. Sommai, 37 years old, the owner of the store selling betel leaves and fertilizer, he was having a meal at the front of his shop when the accident occurred. He was sitting at a table inside the shop, near the inner side. The car crashed into the betel leaves he was eating before colliding with the glass partition inside the store. Following the incident, cries of injured students were heard, prompting immediate assistance from bystanders before attending to the students. 4. At 1 a.m. on June 24, 2023, Pattaya Municipal Radio Center received a distress call regarding a violent dispute resulting in serious injury. The incident occurred at skate park near Bali Hai Pier, South Pattaya. A group of over 20 young people gathered near Bali Hai. A 16-year-old boy was injured, lying in a pool of blood. Emergency services provided immediate first aid before urgently transporting him to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, reported 77kaoded. Upon questioning a 15-year-old female, referred to as "Sah" for privacy, it was found that she and her friends were attending a concert at Pattaya Beach. Picture: 77kaoded They encountered a rival group with whom they previously had a female-related dispute. They had agreed to meet at the skate park to resolve their issues. However, when another group of teenagers, boys aged 15-20, arrived in more than 20 cars and motorcycles, the situation escalated. Initial discussions fell through, leading to a brawl where the male victim was brutally beaten, with repeated kicks and punches to his head, resulting in his severe injuries. Despite her group's attempts to stop the violence, Sah, feeling overwhelmed, called the police. Law enforcement authorities are currently diligently working to gather crucial evidence, including witness testimonies and available surveillance footage, to identify and apprehend those responsible for the violent clash. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2023-06-24 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 6. The Immigration Bureau in Satun has demonstrated its commitment to upholding human rights by assisting a bedridden Indian woman with her visa extension process. The woman's son, Mr. Ali, sought help from the Satun Immigration Bureau after his 73-year-old mother, recovering from heart surgery, found herself with an expired visa and unable to leave the country. Lacking knowledge of Thai immigration regulations, the family reached out for support, reported Siam Rath. In response, Pol. Lt. Col. Phanupak Yanakitprayurati, Director of the Immigration Bureau in Satun Province, personally visited their residence to assess the situation. Recognizing the woman's medical condition and the need to respect her human rights, the Satun Immigration Bureau granted her permission to remain in Thailand for medical treatment by extending her visa until the necessary procedures were completed. Mr. Ali expressed gratitude to the Satun Immigration Bureau for their assistance in facilitating his mother's visa extension. He commended their commitment to ensuring convenience and respecting human rights in such circumstances. Pol. Lt. Col. Phanupak Yanakitprayurati emphasized that individuals with questions or concerns about immigration laws and regulations could rely on the Satun Immigration Bureau for accurate information and guidance. 7. Why Pheu Thai’s thinking is democratically wrong By Tulsathit Taptim Coming from a man considered to be one of the top political thinkers, the idea that the second biggest party in a multiple-party system is traditionally required to fight with the biggest one in forming a government sounds more worrisome. 8. Coming from a man considered to be one of the top political thinkers, the idea that the second biggest party in a multiple-party system is traditionally required to fight with the biggest one in forming a government sounds more worrisome. If not more ridiculous, that is. Even Phumtham Wechayachai, one of the Pheu Thai Party’s most powerful influencers, has pointed out himself that his political camp and Move Forward were not that far apart in terms of election wins. This made the deputy party leader’s assertion that Pheu Thai could have chosen to be a rival government-forming core more bewildering. No political textbook says Pheu Thai should have, and for good reason. Yet this type of thinking has spread throughout not just Pheu Thai’s highest hierarchy but also a considerable section of its support down to the grass roots. There is only one justification for a post-election rivalry between Move Forward and Pheu Thai, and that is if there are irreconcilable ideological differences between both parties. Truth, however, is that Pheu Thai is closer to Move Forward ideologically than to, say, Palang Pracharath. To say otherwise is ignoring what has been happening in Thailand over the past two decades. 9. Outgoing Foreign Minister defends his two days of regional dialogue with Myanmar held in Pattaya by James Morris and Son Nguyen Minister of Foreign Affairs Don Pramudwinai claimed that the dialogue held last Sunday and Monday between Myanmar junta representatives and officials from ASEAN countries, India and China, held in Pattaya, had produced constructive ideas while also insisting the talks were both routine and in Thailand’s national interest. Desperate bid by the caretaker government to present the Burmese junta regime in Nay Pyi Taw as legitimate has drawn hostility from politicians in Thailand, other ASEAN countries and Southeast Asian foreign policy experts. 10. Minister of Foreign Affairs Don Pramudwinai claimed that the dialogue held last Sunday and Monday between Myanmar junta representatives and officials from ASEAN countries, India and China, held in Pattaya, had produced constructive ideas while also insisting the talks were both routine and in Thailand’s national interest. Desperate bid by the caretaker government to present the Burmese junta regime in Nay Pyi Taw as legitimate has drawn hostility from politicians in Thailand, other ASEAN countries and Southeast Asian foreign policy experts. Nevertheless, Deputy Prime Minister Don Pramudwinai steadfastly insisted the move was in Thailand’s strategic interests. The last desperate efforts earlier this week by the outgoing government to bring the failing Burmese junta in from the cold appears to have backfired with key countries within the ASEAN bloc failing to take part and also making their displeasure known about the initiative. One Australian expert has described the two-day dialogue attended by officials from a handful of ASEAN countries, as well as India and China, as damaging and destructive to the ASEAN bloc. In the aftermath of the talks, however, Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Don Pramudwinai defended the meetings that took place as an effort to preserve Thailand’s strategic interests given the country’s unique position as Myanmar’s neighbour with an extensive border. Mr Don also warned that as matters stood, the rising conflict there threatened regional stability and must be addressed. The outgoing government is facing criticism both at home and abroad over its sudden initiative launched last week to host an informal dialogue between the unrecognised Myanmar military junta and representatives from a handful of member ASEAN countries and other parties who agreed to attend the controversial two-day event in Pattaya held on Sunday and Monday last. by James Morris and Son Nguyen Full story: https://www.thaiexaminer.com/thai-news-foreigners/2023/06/23/foreign-minister-don-pramudwinai-defends-talks-with-myanmar/ -- © Copyright Thai Examiner 2023-06-24 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 12. FORMER prime minister and parliament president Chuan Leekpai said today (June 23) that the party that obtained the most number of MPs should get both the premiership and the House speaker post with this referring to Move Forward which got 151 seats and Phue Thai 142 seats having tussled over the latter position, Matichon newspaper said. Usually the largest and the second largest elected parties are on opposite sides of the aisle but this time they are both part of the coalition with this leading to a tug-of-war on which camp will get the House speaker post, Chuan said while registering as a Democrat MP at Parliament. Regarding concerns that whichever party gets the House speaker post will have an advantage in proposing draft laws and motions, Chuan pointed out this has no effect as the constitution says that the speaker has to be impartial and in his 55 years of political experience he has seen that regardless which party the speaker belonged to he has generally been impartial. by TNR Staff Top photo: Former prime minister and parliament president Chuan Leekpai speaking to reporters, June 23, 2023. Photo: Thai Rath POLICE said a carbon dioxide fire extinguisher that exploded during a fire drill at a secondary school in Bangkok killing one student and injuring 29 others was a reusable one but not fitted with a safety valve, Thai Rath and Matichon newspapers said. Metropolitan Police Chief Pol. Lt. Gen. Thiti Saengsawang said it was likely that staff from the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department who were showing fire-fighting techniques to the students and teachers of Rajavinit Mathayom School in Dusit district had filled more gas and placed the extinguisher in the sun with the heat causing the pressure to expand and as there was no safety valve it then exploded. The blast occurred during the second of three rounds of fire-fighting training undertaken by this department. However during the second session the fire extinguisher exploded while some students were participating in the demonstration killing the sixth grade male student and injuring five other students with one of them in serious condition with wounds on his arms and legs.
