Chonlanan Spurns Offers Of House Speaker Seat
PHEU THAI LEADER Chonlanan Srikaew today (June 21) said he will immediately spurn possible offers for him to assume the House Speaker seat. During today’s partisan workshop for all 141 Pheu Thai MPs at a Bangkok hotel, Chonlanan said he will unreluctantly reject offers of the House Speaker seat for which he might possibly be named during the first House meeting speculated early next month. The Pheu Thai leader would ultimately prefer the public health portfolio of a cabinet much rather than the House Speaker seat, given his private profession as a doctor, a partisan source said. Tiger warning issued after footprints found near communities in Yala
Villagers living near the edge of Bang Lang National Park in Tarnto district of Thailand’s southern province of Yala have been advised by park officials not to venture out on their farms after recent footprints of a tiger were found. Padet Laithong, director of the Wildlife Conservation Office of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, said today (Wednesday) that a team of veterinarians and officials from the national park have been sent to investigate and assess the situation. He said that it is still unclear whether the tiger is injured or is so old that it cannot hunt, straying out of its habitat to look for food near human settlements. It has not yet been decided whether to capture the beast or to try to force it back into its habitat in the park. Prayut government’s undiplomatic meeting on Myanmar shows Thailand in a bad light
The informal meeting arranged by Thailand’s caretaker government on the Myanmar crisis has only provided a comfort zone for the junta across the border, but dealt a blow to Thailand’s international reputation and deepened divisions within ASEAN, according to experts. Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai invited ministers and senior officials from ASEAN and its dialogue partners to the discussions on the ongoing crisis in Myanmar on June 19 in Pattaya, turning a deaf ear to criticism and condemnation domestically and internationally for the reckless initiative of a caretaker government. Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha defended the initiative, arguing that his government needed to protect Thailand’s national interests in Myanmar as well as border trade and security. Thailand has suffered the most from the situation in the neighboring country, as it shares more than 3,000 kilometers of land and maritime boundary. Border trade with Myanmar is worth billions of baht annually and Myanmar is a major source of gas supply for Thailand, he argued. “We don’t take any sides, but we need to talk to seek solutions to the problems, that’s it. The other things are Myanmar’s internal affairs, and we don’t get involved,” Prayut said. SASE survey reveals security incidents doubled in Thailand amid remote work shift
A recent SASE survey reveals that Thailand has seen at least double the number of security incidents in 2021 compared to the previous year, primarily due to the rise in hybrid working environments. The study, commissioned by Fortinet, highlights the challenges faced by businesses in securing the ‘branch-office-of-one’ setup amid the shift to remote work. Rashish Pandey, vice president of marketing and communications for Asia, Australia, and New Zealand at Fortinet, discussed findings from the IDC Asia-Pacific SASE survey, which explored the growing threat landscape in light of the increase in managed and unmanaged connections. The research found that 34% of Thai organisations reported more than triple the number of security breaches compared to last year. The concept of secure access service edge (SASE) combines network and security functions into a single cloud service, aiming to enhance security and provide a consistent user experience for remote employees. by Alex Morgan Photo courtesy of Freepik Full story: https://thethaiger.com/news/business/thailand-sees-security-incidents-double-amid-remote-work-shift -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-06-21 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. TAT Organizes Event Promoting Faith-Based Tourism in Thailand
BANGKOK (NNT) - The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is set to organize an event promoting 12 spiritual tourism routes throughout the country. The event aims to stimulate tourism and drive revenue by catering to those who enjoy engaging in religious activities or who follow a spiritual path. TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn shared data from the Ministry of Commerce indicating that religious tourism generated up to 10.8 billion baht in revenue in 2019. This suggests the potential for faith-based tourism to grow exponentially, with projections indicating a threefold increase in global economic value within ten years. The value is expected to skyrocket from over US$13.7 billion in 2022 to $40.9 billion by 2033. The TAT governor explained that the project focuses on offering valuable and meaningful tourism experiences. These include showcasing religious and cultural tourism products that reflect Thailand’s identity and uniqueness. They also include religious temples and other places of faith and worship, cultural heritage, wisdom, and community-based tourism. The event is slated to run from June 30 to July 2 at the Square B in front of the CentralWorld shopping center. The event is divided into three main sections comprising a simulation zone for worship and blessings along 12 spiritual tourism routes; a marketplace featuring shops and restaurants from five regions of Thailand; and a stage for performances by famous artists.
