The latest tourist attraction in Thailand’s western province of Kanchanaburi, the Sky Walk, which is a transparent walkway over the famous River Kwai, was closed yesterday (Sunday), only one day after it was opened to the public, due to the shortage of special shoes, which all visitors are required to purchase and wear. On its Facebook page, the Kanchanaburi Municipality apologised for the temporary closure, offering an assurance that the pedestrian bridge, which was formally opened at 9.09am on Saturday, will reopen this Thursday. Thai cops told to smarten up, get their hair cut and speak politely - R7 chief speaks out Region 7 chief Pol Lt-Gen Thanayuth Wuthijarasthamrong issued an "all points bulletin" to the men under his command to smarten up their act. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1271604-thai-cops-told-to-smarten-up-get-their-hair-cut-and-speak-politely-r7-chief-speaks-out/ -
Region 7 chief Pol Lt-Gen Thanayuth Wuthijarasthamrong issued an "all points bulletin" to the men under his command to smarten up their act. In return he called for senior commanders to make sure their men have plenty of food and drink. Thanayuth chaired a meeting of very upstanding - even though they were sitting - senior cops. Every one had an identical short back and sides haircut as they used to be known. Before the word skinhead became prevalent. Everyone was well dressed and at seated attention. All were masked. It was clear these were fine examples of what the force should look like. Thanayuth issued an eight point plan and among the highlights were: Demands that police in Region 7 help the public and speak politely while so doing. Cops were told to smarten themselves up, get an appropriate haircut; station chiefs were ordered to make sure that standards were being met EACH AND EVERY DAY. In other matters the cops were told to make sure that they contacted the relevant authorities to clear roads of floodwater, reported Siam Rath. Edict #1 was to provide enough rainwear to the men. Cops were also told to watch out for online crime and given thanks for their hard work from the big boss. Those responsible for their welfare should make sure there is no skimping on the meals and drinks, was edict #8. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-12 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO) Bangkok Office. (Photo by Veena Thoopkrajae) Thailand and South Korea can add to their list of “things in common” their tourism industries, both of which are working to get back on track after COVID-19. Tourism exchanges between the two countries have been gaining momentum since the lifting of travel restrictions. While Thais top the number of tourists from Southeast Asian countries visiting South Korea, the Thai tourism body also expects to attract more than 1.3 million visitors from South Korea next year. The mutual goal of the two countries is future cooperation, with the two working closely to achieve that goal. Thai PBS World talks to Yi Sangwoo, director of the Korea Tourism Organisation, about the plans put in place to promote tourism since the reopening of borders and the future cooperation between Thailand and South Korean governments. What makes everything South Korean click? Why is it so appealing to Thais? Our two countries came to discover each other’s culture in greater detail and through more visits. Korean people are fans of Thai food and love to travel to Thailand, some finding the charm of so-called T-pop (Thailand entertainment) irresistible. Likewise, Thais are into K-pop. We can see an increase in exchanges between the two countries and we are hoping to improve these through tourism. Of course, as someone working in the tourism industry, I am thankful to the Thais for their understanding and appreciation of Korean culture. When will the drownings stop? Another four young children die in weir in Surin Daily News Thai Caption: Four dead! Daily News Thai Caption: Four dead! Daily News reported yet another mass drowning of young children in the North Eastern region of the country. It was a reminder in a country where motorcycle accidents now rival death from drowning, that in years past drowning was always the number one cause of death in children under 15. Pol Capt Kowit Thongphen of the Kap Choeng police in Surin were called after four children aged 10-12 went missing while swimming. Six children had gone swimming to celebrate after a ceremony in the village to celebrate the building of a new tarmac road into the community. Four had gone swimming while two remained on the bank. These two couldn't swim and were helpless. They rushed off on a motorcycle to alert village elders but by then it was too late. The story did not explain in any detail what exactly happened to the children. Divers fished out the bodies some while later. Picture: Daily News As relatives gathered and consoled each other on the bank there were heartfelt scenes as rescue workers helped the bereaved and administered first aid to people who fainted in grief. Such a tragedy after the happy cultural event in the village must have been traumatizing. A picture published by Daily News showed the tragic scene yesterday. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-12 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. The Kla Party will ask the Office of the Auditor-General to investigate the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) over the diversion of about 10 million baht, originally allocated for drainage and sewerage projects in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district, to the funding of outdoor seminars. The party’s secretary-general, Atavit Suwannapakdee, said yesterday (Sunday) that, since Chatuchak district has 11 areas which are vulnerable to flooding, he found the diversion of the money to fund outdoor seminars suspicious. The BMA’s budget for the 2023 fiscal year is estimated at 79.7 billion baht and it will come into effect on October 1st. Picture: Thai Rath A village in the eastern province of Sa Kaeo is in shock today after one of its men was viciously mauled by a bear. Nawa was out foraging for mushrooms as was his wont when he was confronted by one of an increasing number of bears in the woods near the village of Ban Roboh Hu Kwang. Except that this one was probably trying to protect a newborn cub, noted the local phu yai ban, and was particularly ferocious. Thai Rath noted that the victim - a 73 year iold man called Nawa - was found after 50 people were mobilized to search after Nawa went missing on Friday. He was found Saturday very badly mauled with the teeth and claw marks indicative of a bear attack all over his head and torso. His wife Kaewdee said she was devastated losing the family breadwinner so sudenly and in such terrible circumstances. There was much sadness at the temple of Wat Raboh Hu Kwang where the body was laid out following an autopsy at the local hospital. Kaewdee implored her neighbors to stay out of the woods lest the same thing happen to their loved one. This was echoed by the local district chief who also called on park rangers to find the bear responsible and make sure it was sent back deep into the forest. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-12 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Picture: Thai Rath Call center gangs have been using a bogus TikTok video to convince the unwary to part with their data. The link is sent to people who believe their baloney about being involved in drugs cases. It shows a woman working at a police station. It's a hive of activity. That's where the alarm bells should ring. Instead gullible Thais are falling for the video, and worse still pressing a link with a DSI look-alike logo where personal data is collected and accounts emptied. Tech police chief and incoming RTP commander Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat issued a four point plan to foil the thieves, reported Thai Rath. When called and told you're mixed up in a drugs or money laundering case: 1. Be aware. Don't panic and call the police on their real number. 2. Don't press links or add apps and certainly don't pass on personal data. 3. The RTP do not make phone calls or video calls in this manner. 4. Be careful of disseminating codes. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-12 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
