A post on a "so you wanna be famous" site on Facebook featured the activities of large groups of young people annoying the locals in Mukdahan in the north east of Thailand. The kids were revving their bikes in a scenic area known as Chong Khao Khat where tourists love to take pictures. Local Nong Sung police chief Pol Col Jaturong Klinsrisuk went with Siam Rath reporters to the scene yesterday. He explained that young people were meeting up in the area. His men had tried to stop the annoyance but they had peeled off down sois and escaped. Foreign arrivals shrank to 2 million in the first half of 2022 from nearly 40 million in 2019, and many cannabis cafe owners view their venues as central to efforts to revive a tourism industry that contributed about 12% to GDP before the pandemic struck. In 2018, Thailand became the first Southeast Asian country to legalize marijuana for medical use. In June, the entire cannabis plant was decriminalized. A parliamentary committee is currently debating a bill to regulate cannabis use that is expected to finalize in September and could impact the cannabis cafes. A clip of the abuse had been posted by a concerned neighbor after it escalated. It appeared on Facebook on a page called "Mai Roo - Leum Laew" (Don't know, I've forgotten). Following the post child welfare and other authorities went to the house in Nong Khoo sub-district of Buriram where they took eleven year old "A" into care. She said that she was chained up and whipped by her paternal grandfather and grandmother and was not allowed to play with her friends. She said she was lonely. Sometimes her neck was grabbed and she was scared. She was told that if she took the chain off she would be covered in red ants. The grandparents - named only as Black and Red said that the child who they had raised since her parents split up did not listen to them. They claimed that tying her up was for her own good as she had been involved in a molestation incident with a man called Love, aged 45. They called her "deu" or stubborn and said they tied her up while they went to work. A local trader called Chor said that he had witnessed the abuse and decided at first not to interfere but when it escalated he got his son to film and posted online to get the attention of the authorities. ASEAN NOW notes that many children are raised by grandparents in Thailand when they are either abandoned by their parents or due to the fact that parents must work to get money in other provinces. But some grandparents are unable to cope and resort to violence to try and control the children who they often see as "property". Authorities say LAABs are effective against the original strain of COVID-19 as well as substrains that are currently active. The first LAAB batch will be allocated to kidney failure patients who require dialysis, as well as organ and bone marrow transplant patients. These patients can consult their doctors for advice on receiving an LAAB injection. After the initial group has had their LAABs administered, the health ministry will expand its target to cover those at risk of developing severe symptoms or dying from COVID-19. LAABs have been certified for emergency use in the United States and United Kingdom, with Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration giving emergency use approval on June 27th. According to AstraZeneca, LAABs are 83% effective at reducing the risk of symptomatic COVID-19. The suspect had been trying to sell the drugs on the cheap as a job lot to get out of debt. The media said he was willing to accept 3 million baht for the pills (meth mixed with caffeine) when the real street value when sold separately would be much higher. The media said 250 million baht but ASEAN NOW thinks they added a zero - 25 million would be more correct. The suspect said that he was supplied with the drugs by a man he met before his release from prison. Now he desperately needed 700,000 baht to repay him and was willing to go cheap. He blamed the economy for not being able to sell his stash. He faces charges for selling Class 1 drugs and a definite return to jail for an extremely long time. This is just 300 meters from the Dusit police station. Barely alive at the scene was a 17-18 year old youth dressed in white shirt and long black pants who had multiple stab wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital. Also taken to hospital were four others with less serious knife wounds. Two arrests were made. CCTV footage timed at 5.19 pm showed the encounter as two groups of school students arrived before they were attacked by the college students with knives. They were both shot in the head before being encased in cement in a 1.5 meter deep pit in the woods 400 meters off the road.
