  4. Government Defends Lottery Vendor Crackdown by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - The government has defended its raids on overpriced lottery ticket vendors, saying they were part of the government’s efforts to prevent people from abusing the law and were not politically motivated. 5. by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - The government has defended its raids on overpriced lottery ticket vendors, saying they were part of the government’s efforts to prevent people from abusing the law and were not politically motivated. Referring to the "five tigers," or major lottery distributors who won the majority of ticket distribution quotas from the Government Lottery Office (GLO) for an extended period, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said the sellers controlled lottery tickets under the previous quota system and were frequently blamed for inflated ticket prices. The prime minister also assured that the problem has been resolved and lottery tickets are now distributed directly and proportionally to each registered vendor. He added that the process for establishing lottery ticket quotas is also being conducted in accordance with the new GLO regulations. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe His remarks come in the wake of police raids on two online lottery vendors suspected of selling overpriced tickets: Kong Salak Plus and Bluedragon Lottery Company. Lertsak Pattanachaikul, the Pheu Thai Party’s MP for Loei, on Tuesday (29 Mar), denied any involvement with the Bluedragon vendor and its connection with Muang Loei United Football Club. The club was implicated when an aide to the prime minister who leads a sub-committee tasked with investigating the irregular pricing of lottery ticket said a football club in Loei was being sponsored by Bluedragon. According to Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn, the Royal Thai Police have since been tasked with seeking a court order to block access to Bluedragon’s website. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-03-30 - Aetna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 6. Tourism Council Urges Government to Relax Restrictions to Revitalize Industry by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - The Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) has stated that the local tourism scene remains in a ‘comatose’ state, adding that the Kingdom needs at least 16 million visitors and 1.2 trillion baht in revenue to resuscitate the industry. 7. by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - The Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) has stated that the local tourism scene remains in a ‘comatose’ state, adding that the Kingdom needs at least 16 million visitors and 1.2 trillion baht in revenue to resuscitate the industry. TCT President Chamnan Srisawat noted that many countries - such as the United States and several European and Asian nations - have been relaxing entry restrictions in order to rejuvenate their tourism sectors. He urged the Thai government to consider similar moves, insisting that once these restrictions are relaxed, several sectors will immediately benefit. These can include construction, real estate, agriculture and food, as well as the healthcare and wellness sectors. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Chamnan also reiterated that SMEs and local entrepreneurs should recover quickly as more tourists make their way to the Kingdom. The TCT president said the agency aims to attract at least 16 million foreign visitors to Thailand and 75 million local travelers, generating 1.2 trillion baht in revenue. Relaxing curbs would also spur employment and generate billions of baht in tax income. To that end, the TCT has suggested that the administration remove the Thailand Pass scheme and replace the mandatory RT-PCR test-upon-arrival requirement with the more convenient ATK tests. It also floated the idea of establishing a fund to develop human resources and marketing technology, and to provide liquidity for tourism businesses. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-03-30 - Aetna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 9. by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - Energy Absolute Public Company Limited (EA) has said it is planning to invest more than 2 billion baht in the construction of charging stations for electric buses that will be used as public transportation. Somphote Ahunai, chairman of EA’s Strategic Planning Committee, made the announcement, saying the renewable energy developer will erect charging stations throughout the capital. The extension is the result of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between EA, the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and JRW Utility, a provider of electrical engineering and information technology services. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Somphote said EA intends to expand the number of direct current (DC) chargers installed by 1,000 units by the end of the year, bringing the total to 1,900 under the EA Anywhere brand. The MEA will provide a sufficient and steady supply of electricity to the charging stations, while JRW Utility will assist in the development of basic infrastructure. An ultra-fast charging service will be available specifically for buses, vans and ferries, using a mechanism designed to recharge batteries up to 80% in just 15 minutes. JRW Utility chief executive Jarun Wiwatjesadawut said the construction of EV charging stations will bolster the state’s EV promotion strategy, as part of efforts to transition to clean energy and reduce carbon emissions. EA has thus far developed its business to include a variety of EV-related projects. It recently partnered with public boat operator Family Transport Co to conduct a feasibility study on the possibility of transitioning to a battery-powered boat service. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-03-30 - Aetna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
