Channel 7 Thai caption: Mother scared by son - he went on a mad drunken rampage Channel 7 reported that police in Nong Khai received a 191 call and sent Tha Bo district officers to a house where Prathuan, 57, and many neighbors were waiting. Prathuan showed officers her house and the damage done by her son Chatchai, 31, who went on a drunken rampage. At this point Chatchai arrived in a pick-up with music blaring. The neighbors ran in all directions fearing for their lives. Chatchai wouldn't get out of his vehicle. The police blocked escape routes and eventually after 30 minutes he gave himself up. A Norico gun and magazine and lots of ammunition were found in the pick-up along with three knives. No other incriminating evidence was found in his bedroom in the house. He said that he had consumed two beers and was furious that his mother and neighbors had installed CCTV to monitor his behaviour. Chatchai siad he was bequeathed the gun by his father. He was taken away for a urine test and prosecution. 10. Tigers on the BBQ: Thai hunters are unlikely to be innocent and should go to jail, Dutch activist tells ASEAN NOW A well known Dutch animal rights activist and owner of a wildlife sanctuary in Phetchaburi has told ASEAN NOW that the hunters responsible for the deaths of two tigers in Kanchanaburi are "not as innocent as they claim they are". 11. A well known Dutch animal rights activist and owner of a wildlife sanctuary in Phetchaburi has told ASEAN NOW that the hunters responsible for the deaths of two tigers in Kanchanaburi are "not as innocent as they claim they are". Edwin Wiek reckons they have killed the animals to make money from their skins, bones and penises. Thai PBS reported that five men had been bailed by the court after park rangers found two tiger skins and lots of tiger meat on a barbecue in Kanchanaburi last week. Weapons were also found after the men fled the scene having been alerted by dogs. Edwin told ASEAN NOW that he agrees with the authorities that claims the men acted in retaliation for the loss of livestock - namely cows - were unlikely to be true. He told us that due to new laws promulgated in 2020 there are stiff penalties for killing tigers and that a precedent should be set. He said that this looked like "organized crime". "The skin of a tiger can fetch 50 to 60,000 baht each if you know where to sell it," he said. "It would be at least 30 - 40,000 if you didn't. "Bones fetch about the same and a tiger penis can be sold for 50-60,000 baht. "There is lots of money to be made if you know how to get rid of the tigers. Finally he said: "It looks to me that they are not as innocent as they claim they are". Thai PBS quoted authorities as saying that they believed the hunters were guilty though a local park chief admitted it was up to the court whether they were granted bail or not.
