Thai couple accused of physically and sexually abusing girl
A Thai mother accused two of her friends of physically and sexually abusing her four year old daughter after the girl sustained multiple injuries to her body, brain, and genitals. The babysitting couple deny the charges. The 26 year old woman, A, filed a complaint against the couple, a 33 year old woman named Rattanaporn Banyen and a 29 year old man named Subsin Duangkunlasa, at Bangmulnak Police Station in the Isaan province of Phichit. A said she suspected Rattanaporn and Subsin of brutally assaulting her four year old daughter Bee, leaving the girl in a critical condition. According to A, Bee had wounds and bruises all over her body, her brain was damaged, and her vagina had been severely harmed. A explained that she hired Rattanaporn and Subsin to take care of her daughter in November of last year because she had to work on a construction site in Bangkok. She trusted the couple because they were her friends. Unexpectedly, A was notified on March 17 that her daughter fell off a bicycle, had a seizure, and lost consciousness. The couple informed A that they took the girl to the Taphan Hin Crown Prince Hospital in Phichit province before the girl was transferred to Sawanpracharak Hospital in Nakhon Sawan province. A immediately travelled to Nakhon Sawan to check on her daughter. From a medical examination, she strongly believed that Rattanaporn and Subsin had physically and sexually assaulted the girl. She vowed to pursue legal action against them to the fullest extent. Deny accusations A Taphan Hin Crown Prince Hospital doctor, Wisit Apisitwittaya, told Channel 3 that Bee was admitted to the hospital without consciousness. Her eyes were wide but unresponsive. Her head was swollen, her body bore several bruises and wounds, and a trace of sexual assault was evidenced on her genitals. An officer from the Bangmulnak Police Station, Wichian Lorphichit, disclosed that officers already questioned four people from both parties and already received a medical report from the two hospitals. With clear medical evidence, Rattanaporn and Subsin were charged under Section 297 of the Criminal Law for assaulting another person resulting in serious injury. The penalty is imprisonment between six months to 10 years and a fine between 10,000 and 200,000 baht. Police also charged Subsin for sexually assaulting the girl. The penalty is imprisonment from seven to 20 years, a fine from 140,000 baht to 400,000 baht, or both according to Section 277 of the Criminal Law: sexually assaulting children aged under 13 years old. Despite the evidence, the couple denied all allegations, prompting police to continue the investigation. by Petch Petpailin Photo via Facebook/ North Now Source: The Thaiger 2024-03-26 - Discover how Cigna Insurance can protect you with a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment. Thailand Sets Compensation for Wild Animal Attack Victims
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has introduced new compensation regulations for victims of wild animal attacks, responding to increasing incidents involving monkeys in Lop Buri province. Under the guidance of Natural Resources and Environment Minister Pol Gen Patcharawat Wongsuwon, the regulations, effective from Saturday (Mar 23), outline compensations up to 100,000 baht for severe injuries or death, 50,000 baht for the loss of a limb or an eye, and a cap of 30,000 baht for other injuries. Additionally, victims can receive daily payments of 300 baht during their recovery for up to 180 days. The move aims to offer financial relief to those affected by encounters with wild animals such as monkeys, elephants, gaurs, and bears. The initiative arrives amidst growing concerns over aggressive macaques in Lop Buri, which have been reported to attack locals and tourists alike, primarily to snatch food. The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation plans to relocate aggressive monkeys from Lop Buri’s urban areas to designated enclosures within the province and nearby Nakhon Nayok, noting that food scarcity during the hot season often triggers their aggressive behavior. The preceding is a press release from the Thai Government PR Department. No More ‘Bananas’ For Potential Move Forward Defectors: Thammanat
PALANG PRACHARATH Secretary-General Thammanat Prompao today (Mar. 25) categorically denied allegations that his coalition party might possibly tempt potential Move Forward defectors with payoff in cash. Thammanat who concurrently performs as agriculture & cooperatives minister told reporters no more “bananas” will be handed out by the Palang Pracharath to any potential MPs who might skip over from the Move Forward to his coalition party, given the possibility that the latter party might be dissolved by court in near future. In Thailand’s political jargon, “banana” means a payoff in cash earlier alleged of changing hands among politicians in exchange for the recipient to cast votes in accordance with the donor’s whims or skip over from their current party to the donor’s camp for whatever reason. Thammanat was responding to unconfirmed hearsay that a few Move Forward MPs had quietly met with Palang Pracharath leader Prawit Wongsuwan in alleged pursuit of defection to his coalition party in case that the progressive camp might possibly be dissolved by the Constitutional Court for attempts to amend the draconian lese majeste law, also known as Section 112 of the Criminal Code, which may have been allegedly tantamount to an undermining of rule. Intense negotiations are ongoing. Worker wages in limbo. Government and banks are on edge. Will Italian-Thai weather this storm as it did previously in 1997? Intensive negotiations are underway to secure the future of Thailand’s top construction firm Italian-Thai Development plc (ITD). At this time, the focus is on securing a financial lifeline for the firm to pay outstanding salaries by the end of April. The firm shocked Thailand’s financial market in January when it deferred ฿14.45 billion in bond repayments for two years. Similarly, with a flood of complaints over unpaid wages, the Ministry of Labour has now been forced to intervene. The firm recently requested an extension to file its financial statements for the year 2023 after its auditors refused to sign off on the accounts, citing the need for a review. The huge construction behemoth, established in Thailand in 1958, has been a key player in the kingdom’s economy and industrial development since. Its current predicament and financial distress could also certainly spell wider problems for Thailand’s economy.
