Child abuse case surfaces involving stepmother and malnourished 5-year-old
A five year old child was allegedly subjected to abuse by their stepmother, who reportedly left bruises and signs of malnutrition on the child’s body. The 31 year old biological mother, Jiraporn, has filed a police report against the 34 year old stepmother, identified as Fon. The 32 year old child’s father, Warut, previously won a lottery prize of 12 million baht in 2018 but has reportedly neglected his children’s care. Jiraporn reported that her son, referred to here as B, showed signs of physical harm and poor health when he was returned to her on March 14. B was found to have an enlarged spleen and liver, as well as a pale complexion indicative of nutritional deficiencies. He was subsequently admitted to Sapphasitprasong Hospital in Ubon Ratchathani province for treatment. Before the incident, Warut, who had separated from his first wife and was living with Fon, his third partner, took B and another child to live in Chumphon province. On March 14, Warut returned both children to his mother’s house in Det Udom district by train. Jiraporn retrieved her son and, noticing the signs of abuse, took him to a local hospital before transferring him to Sapphasitthiprasong Hospital. Upon investigation, the police officer, Thongriam Siangwan took the complaint and initiated an inquiry. B’s half-sibling, referred to as A, mentioned that the abuse occurred because the stepmother was often in a bad mood, sometimes resorting to physical discipline when A took food for B. During their time with the stepmother and father, the children endured hardship, confined to a rubber plantation where their father worked as a tapper. On some days, their meals consisted only of rice with fish sauce. Unable to care for his sons adequately, Warut decided to send them back to their hometown in Det Udom, Ubon Ratchathani province. Police officials have acknowledged the complaint and, together with multi-disciplinary professionals, will interview both children before referring the case to the police in Chawee district, Chumphon province, for further legal action against the stepmother. Fon, who ran an online business and gold savings scheme, reportedly could not sustain her business and fled to Chumphon, reported KhaoSod. It was also revealed that Warut had been a lottery winner, claiming 12 million baht (US$ 330,000) in 2018, but despite this fortune, he separated from B’s mother, his second wife, and began a new life with Fon, neglecting his parental responsibilities. by Nattapong Westwood Picture courtesy of ร้อยเรื่องเมืองร้อยด่านอุบลราชธานี Facebook Source: The Thaiger 2024-03-25 - Discover how Cigna Insurance can protect you with a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment. Thailand grapples with scorching heat and sporadic thunderstorms
Thailand is currently experiencing a period of intense heat, with many areas also facing sporadic thunderstorms. The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a 24-hour forecast indicating that a low-pressure system, stemming from the prevailing heat, is covering the upper parts of the country. This system is expected to bring very hot weather and isolated thunderstorms throughout the day. The general public is advised to take precautions and look after their health due to the extreme heat. The southern and southeast winds are carrying moisture from the Gulf of Thailand and the South China Sea to the lower northeastern, lower central, and eastern regions of Thailand. This influx of moisture could lead to thunderstorms in some areas. People in the upper parts of Thailand are urged to be cautious of the potential dangers posed by these thunderstorms during this period. In the seas, the east and southeast winds are affecting the Gulf of Thailand, the southern region, and the Andaman Sea. These conditions are expected to lead to thunderstorms in some areas of the south, with wave heights in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea reaching about 1 metre. In areas experiencing thunderstorms, waves could exceed 1 metre. Fishermen are advised to avoid sailing in these conditions. Additionally, the upper northern parts, the lower northeastern region, the central region, including Bangkok and its vicinity, and the eastern region, continue to experience moderate to high levels of dust particles/smog. This is due to weakening winds in these areas and poor air circulation. The weather forecast for Thailand from 6am today to 6am tomorrow predicts hot weather with patchy clouds in the daytime for the northern region, with minimum temperatures ranging from 17 to 25 degrees Celsius and maximum temperatures hitting 36 to 40 degrees Celsius. Southwest winds are expected to travel at speeds of 5 to 15 kilometres per hour. In the lower northeastern region, hot weather with patchy clouds during the day is anticipated, along with a 10% chance of thunderstorms in areas including Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, and Ubon Ratchathani. Minimum temperatures are forecast to be 22 to 25 degrees Celsius with maximums of 36 to 38 degrees Celsius and southwest winds at 10 to 15 kilometres per hour. Temperature rises The central region is also set to experience very hot weather, with light rain in some lower parts. Minimum temperatures are expected to be 24 to 26 degrees Celsius, with maximums reaching 37 to 40 degrees Celsius, and southern winds at 10 to 15 kilometres per hour. In the eastern region, hot weather with patchy clouds during the day is forecast for the upper parts, with a 20% chance of thunderstorms, particularly in Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Minimum temperatures could be 24 to 26 degrees Celsius, with maximums of 33 to 37 degrees Celsius, and southerly winds at speeds of 10 to 30 kilometres per hour. Sea waves are expected to be less than 1 metre high but could exceed 1 metre in stormy areas. For the southern region (east coast), hot daytime weather with a 10% chance of thunderstorms is predicted, mainly affecting Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, and Nakhon Si Thammarat. Minimum temperatures may range from 23 to 25 degrees Celsius, with highs of 33 to 38 degrees Celsius, and southeast winds at 15 to 30 kilometres per hour. Sea waves are likely to be about 1 metre high, with higher waves in stormy areas. In the southern region (west coast), hot daytime weather with light rain in some places is expected. Minimum temperatures could be 24 to 26 degrees Celsius, with maximums of 35 to 38 degrees Celsius, and easterly winds at 15 to 30 kilometres per hour. Sea waves are anticipated to be about 1 metre high, with higher waves in stormy areas further from the coast, reported KhaoSod. In Bangkok and its vicinity, hot weather with patchy clouds during the day is forecast, with a 10% chance of thunderstorms. Minimum temperatures are expected to be 26 to 28 degrees Celsius, with maximums of 34 to 37 degrees Celsius. by Nattapong Westwood Picture courtesy of KhaoSod Source: The Thaiger 2024-03-25 - Discover how Cigna Insurance can protect you with a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment. Songkhla man arrested for multiple sexual offenses against teen
The arrest of a 43 year old man, Sativat, on charges of multiple sexual offenses in Songkhla province has triggered a meticulous police operation led by the Commander of the Anti-Human Trafficking Division. The suspect, identified as the father of the victim’s friends, is accused of committing heinous acts against a 17 year old girl, including rape and molestation. Yesterday, in a decisive act of justice, law enforcement officers executed an arrest warrant issued by the Songkhla Provincial Court for the suspect. The warrant outlined grave allegations of rape, molestation, and sexual assault against a person over 15 years old by force and against a person incapable of resistance, as well as the abduction of a minor aged between 15 and 18 for lewd acts. The events that led to the arrest unfolded as a 17 year old girl, along with two friends, went for a leisurely walk by the sea before deciding to stay overnight at her friends’ house in a community within the Bo Yang subdistrict of Mueang Songkhla district. Upon arriving at the house, they encountered Sativat, who was the father of the victim’s two friends. The three girls shared a room for the night, during which the alleged sexual assaults occurred multiple times. The following day, the young girl confided in her guardians, who promptly reported the incident to the Mueang Songkhla police station. The police gathered evidence, which subsequently led to the issuance of an arrest warrant. They continued their investigation until they located the suspect within the Mueang district of Songkhla, reported Sanook. Upon verification that Sativat matched the physical description in the warrant, officers approached and apprehended him. He was informed of the charges against him before being taken into custody by the Mueang Songkhla police for further legal proceedings. During the initial questioning, Sativat denied all allegations. by Samantha Rose Picture courtesy of Thairath Source: The Thaiger 2024-03-25 - Discover how Cigna Insurance can protect you with a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment. British woman’s Thailand epiphany leads to £6K savings a year (video)
A British woman revealed her ability to save 274,000 baht (£6,000) a year after having an epiphany during a trip to Thailand. Chrissie Milan embarked on a no-spend challenge and is on course to accumulate nearly £6,000 by eliminating extravagant clothes shopping and costly dining experiences. The 25 year old Londoner began reassessing what she considers essential expenditure after having an epiphany on a visit to the Land of Smiles. Witnessing the stark contrast in living costs between Thailand and London during her trip, Milan resolved to join the no-spend year trend upon her return. The young influencer and video producer slashed her £150 (7,000 baht) monthly clothes shopping budget entirely and put an end to impromptu evening meal meet-ups with friends. Milan also ditched her daily coffees and ceased buying lunch, resulting in a monthly saving of £240 (11,000 baht). Now the West London professional manages to save an average of £500 (23,000 baht) per month and is on course to accumulate £6,000 by the year’s end, which means she can spend, no pun intended, more time on holiday in the Land of Smiles. “It’s not something I ever thought I would do really. A smoothie cost me £1 in Thailand compared to £6 in the UK and it was much nicer. So, it made me think about what I actually need to spend money on at home and also what I am getting in return. “So in January, I decided to only spend on essentials, which are things like my rent and food and I can really feel the difference.” Picture courtesy of @milaninformer While Chrissie acknowledges the noticeable difference, she admits it doesn’t feel entirely natural to cut out all the things she’s accustomed to doing. “We spend lots out of convenience and the first few weeks I found easy as it felt like a new challenge. In the middle, it dipped a bit and it was easy to slip into old habits. “Things like meal prep and planning ahead get harder. I had a few weeks in the middle where I regressed slightly.” Milan confessed to being a frivolous spender in the past, often giving in to impulse and boredom buying. However, committing to a no-spend year has significantly helped her rein in these tendencies. “It helps you realise what you like spending your money on. I’ve found that going out to eat really isn’t for me but I love trying new coffee or going out to breakfast instead. “Everyone has different essentials too so people can decide what they want to class as essential. It is about getting to the root of what’s important. Stripping everything away and starting from zero helps you realise what you miss and what you don’t.” Milan added that saving money gives her peace of mind as she can stash it away for a rainy day, or another trip to Thailand. “The aim is to challenge my spending, so I think the money I save will be best put away for a rainy day or invested. I want to build a comfortable financial future. I don’t feel the need to blow it on something huge.'” by Bob Scott Picture courtesy of @milaninformer Source: The Thaiger 2024-03-25 - Discover how Cigna Insurance can protect you with a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment. Three families escaped death as rental room plunges into pond
On March 24, 2567, at 4:00 p.m., Lieutenant Colonel Aduldej Jindasirikul, Deputy Director (Investigation) of Don Mueang Police Station, received a report of a rented house plunging into the pond at the end of Soi Sano Kamnon 25, Intersection 2-7, Sikan Subdistrict, Don Mueang District, Bangkok. Before conducting inspections with officials from the Don Mueang District Office, personnel from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Don Mueang Fire Station, and volunteers from the Pho Tek Tueng Foundation and the Northern Relief Unit for Public Hazards, they received an initial report of the incident. reported Siam Rath. Picture: Siam Rath The scene revealed a single-story rental house with 6 rooms. Rooms 4 to 6 were submerged over 1 meter deep, with the roof collapsed. In front of the rooms, three motorcycles lay in a heap, damaged. Initial casualties included two residents injured, attended to by volunteer medics. Picture: Siam Rath Mr. Thanad, 58, residing in Room 5, recounted hearing a loud noise before his room submerged. Initially mistaking it for construction, he realized the severity when the doorframe buckled, trapping him inside momentarily before he managed to escape. Fortunately, he exited before the room fully submerged, preventing a dire situation due to the large body of water at the back. Mr. Saroj Pholrutt, Don Mueang District Director, indicated preliminary findings suggested the collapse affected three out of six rooms, causing minor injuries to two individuals. Investigation revealed erosion of the foundation supports leading to the collapse. Picture: Siam Rath Consequently, the remaining three rooms were deemed unsafe, necessitating evacuation. The construction, dating back decades, had likely experienced unnoticed erosion due to its proximity to water. Immediate assistance was dispatched to assess further needs, as survivors were relocated to alternative accommodations. However, re-entry into the affected area remained contingent upon expert evaluation and thorough structural assessments, scheduled for the following day. Picture: Siam Rath Captain Puchapong Sanyachote, Chief of Lad Yao Fire Station, noted initial observations of inoperable doors and displaced rooms. Partial relocation was planned for unaffected areas, with the impacted section slated for comprehensive risk assessment. The incident underscored the challenges of habitation near water bodies, with previous similar incidents reported in this vicinity, highlighting the need for robust structural monitoring and urban planning strategies. Notorious elephant See Do Nok relocated for public safety in Thailand
A wild elephant known as See Do Nok has been safely relocated after posing a danger to locals in the Kabin Buri district of Prachinburi province, Thailand. The elephant, which had previously been responsible for a fatality and damaging property while foraging for food, was moved in a complex overnight operation. Last night, a joint effort by volunteers, local conservation offices, and wildlife sanctuaries led to the successful tranquilization and transport of the elephant known as See Do Nok, a notorious wild elephant from Khao Ang Rue Nai wildlife sanctuary. The operation took several hours due to the cunning nature of the elephant, which had evaded capture until 5pm. It then required over 100 volunteers, a backhoe, and considerable effort to secure the over one-ton animal onto a ten-wheeler truck for transport. The relocation was deemed necessary after See Do Nok, also nicknamed 10 Wheels due to its size, had been found foraging in a residential area of Kabin Buri district, posing a significant threat to the local population. The elephant had a history of aggressive behaviour, resulting in the death of a local and damage to homes as it searched for food, reported KhaoSod. Kongkiat Temthamnan, the head of the local conservation office in Si Racha, confirmed that See Do Nok had crossed over from Chachoengsao province into Prachinburi province, particularly in the areas of Wang Tha Chang and Khao Mai Kaew sub-districts of Kabin Buri district. The successful relocation involved moving See Do Nok to the innermost conservation area of Khao Ang Rue Nai wildlife sanctuary, a distance of about 85 kilometres from Khao Mai Kaew, which is expected to take approximately three to four hours of travel time. In related news, in the heart of Prachin Buri, Khao Mai Kaew subdistrict located in the Kabin Buri district, a herd of over 100 wild elephants emerged from the Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary, wreaking havoc on local farming land. by Nattapong Westwood Picture courtesy of KhaoSod Source: The Thaiger 2024-03-25 - Discover how Cigna Insurance can protect you with a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment.
