Pheu Thai MP Questions Pita’s Motives in Chiang Mai Visit During Thaksins Return
On March 16th, 2024, Mr. Anusorn Iamsa-ard, a Pheu Thai list MP, questioned the case of Mr. Pita Limjaroenrat, the Move Forward Party (MFP)’s chief adviser, in traveling to Chiang Mai to inspect wildfires and air pollution problems while Thaksin Shinawatra and Srettha Thavisin were in Chiang Mai. “Pita should ask the reasons for choosing to inspect the wildfires and air pollution problems at the same time as prominent individuals visiting Chiang Mai. Was it to compete with the ruling party to gain popularity,” questioned Anusorn. “To extinguish the wildfires, perhaps Pita should extinguish the fire in his heart first. Srettha’s visit to Chiang Mai was to exchange knowledge with Thaksin and would benefit all people whereas Pita just wanted to be under the limelight,” said Anusorn. In response to the imputation, Pita publicly revealed to Thai national media that it was not to compete with anyone. The only thing he concentrated on was the local problems and this year it was severe. Undercover amulet group busted for illegal firearm sales in Samut Prakan
Police have successfully dismantled a covert operation where a group of young individuals used a Buddhist amulet trading group as a front to sell illegal firearms. The proceeds were used to purchase kratom juice and cannabis for consumption. A substantial cache of weapons and ammunition was seized during a raid on an apartment in Samut Prakan province yesterday. Leading the operation, the Divisional Commander of the Special Operation Unit, along with other high-ranking officers, executed a search warrant issued by the Samut Prakan Provincial Court. The search led to the arrest of 21 year old Chalothi Charoen and the discovery of an unregistered sawed-off shotgun, a modified Uzi converted from a blank gun, and various calibres of ammunition totalling over 70 rounds. Investigations revealed that Chalothi used Facebook pages บังดิสจัดให้ and its backup account to advertise and sell illegal weapons, explosives, and ammunition. He confessed to the police that all the items seized belonged to him and that he had indeed been selling firearms on social media, with several transactions already made to various customers. Further probing into his activities unveiled his role as an admin of a Line group dedicated to trading Buddhist amulets, which he exploited as a platform for more than 100 members to engage in illicit arms trading. Chalothi acted as a middleman, coordinating the buying and selling of firearms and ammunition among the members. The money earned from these transactions was mainly spent on purchasing kratom juice and cannabis for recreational drug use within his social circle, reported KhaoSod. Chalothi now faces charges for possession of firearms without permission for trade, violating Section 24 of the Firearms Act, and possession of firearms without permission from the registrar, under Section 7 of the same act. He is currently under the custody of the investigative officers at Samrong Nua Police Station, Samut Prakan, where legal proceedings are underway. by Nattapong Westwood Picture courtesy of KhaoSod Source: The Thaiger 2024-03-18 - Discover how Cigna Insurance can protect you with a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment. Bangkok governor defends handling of Klong Ong Ang amid criticism
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt stood firm on Saturday against criticism aimed at the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and its handling of Klong Ong Ang in the Samphanthawong district. The BMA found itself on the receiving end of accusations of abandonment, with critics arguing that the area had been left to deteriorate. Chadchart staunchly refuted these claims, reinforcing that the district had not been forgotten, as suggested. Klong Ong Ang, after undergoing extensive landscape development under the administration of the previous governor, Police General Aswin Kwanmuang, had gained recognition as a city landmark. The area buzzes with activity during the walking street events held there every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Nevertheless, recent criticisms have centred on the apparent declining conditions around the canal. Reports of homeless individuals occupying the pathways and a general lack of maintenance towards walking street activities have sparked concern. Chadchart responded with the belief that importing vendors from regions outside of the area would do little to benefit the local community. Instead, he proposed focusing on cultivating the area’s unique identity to draw in visitors, much like the appeal of Pak Klong Talat and Talat Noi. “We must figure out how to rejuvenate the area. We’re not neglecting it. Instead, we are expanding it to Klong Bang Lamphu. The community has to find its strengths.” Bangkok Deputy Governor Sanon Wangsrangboon voiced his belief that the local community should take the reins in organising activities, with the BMA playing a supportive role. He suggested that if initiatives were driven by those who live and work around the canal, sustainability would be more likely, reported Bangkok Post. He also mentioned that the Pohchang Academy of Art, Mega Plaza, and the Indian Association of Thailand have shown interest in hosting activities. However, he confirmed that the BMA would continue to host key events such as the Songkran and Loy Krathong celebrations. by Mitch Connor Picture courtesy of ThaiPost Source: The Thaiger 2024-03-18 - Discover how Cigna Insurance can protect you with a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment. Woman gives birth on ferry from Koh Chang to Trat
A sudden birth took place at sea when a Cambodian woman delivered her fifth child aboard a ferry with her husband by her side. The dramatic event unfolded early this morning during the ferry’s journey from Koh Chang island to Laem Ngop district in Trat province. The association Sawang Boonchueylue Thammasathan Trat was alerted to the incident at approximately 7.30am today, March 17. The ferry had reached the pier when the emergency response team found the 34 year old woman, Ruean Preing, on the second deck, just after she had given birth to a healthy baby girl, weighing 3,370 grammes ( 7.4 pounds). The woman and her newborn were immediately attended to by the responders and were subsequently taken to Laem Ngop Hospital for further care. Ruean and her husband were travelling to Laem Ngop for personal errands when she unexpectedly went into labour. Fortunately, a nurse from a nearby hospital was present and stepped in to assist with the delivery, ensuring the safety of both mother and child, reported KhaoSod. In related news, in a tale straight out of a gripping Hollywood movie, a Thai airline pilot stepped up to the plate as the heroic Bruce Willis/John McClane-type protagonist to deliver a baby after a pregnant mother went into labour on a flight from Taiwan to Bangkok. The courageous Thai pilot, Jakarin Sararnrakskul, reportedly lacked medical training beyond basic first aid but he took to his new role as a midwife like a duck to water, to deliver a beautiful baby boy. With nearly two decades of piloting experience, Jakarin was at the helm of a four-hour VietJet Airbus A320 flight from Taipei to Bangkok on Friday, February 23, when the emergency unfolded. Responding to the cabin crew’s alert, he left the cockpit, leaving his female co-pilot to navigate the aircraft, and rushed to assist the woman in Labour. by Nattapong Westwood Picture courtesy of KhaoSod Source: The Thaiger 2024-03-18 - Discover how Cigna Insurance can protect you with a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment.
