Move Forward Dissolution Bid Would Be Waived In Other Democratic Countries: Academic
A LAWSUIT FILED IN THAILAND in pursuit of a party dissolution on sprawling grounds of undermining the country’s rule would be unquestionably lifted by court in other democratic countries, according to a prominent academic. Munin Pongsapan, Thammasat University’s former dean of the Faculty of Law, has remarked the lawsuit recently lodged by the Election Commission for the Constitutional Court to consider dissolving the Move Forward on lese majeste grounds would be effortlessly waived if it was judged by the European Court of Human Rights or the United Kingdom’s Supreme Court or Japan’s Supreme Court, among others in democratic countries. Munin pointed out that Thailand’s principles of law pertaining to dissolution of political parties which, he said, had literally imitated those of a few European countries could possibly be abused, either inadvertently or purposely, to deliver unjust verdicts to defendants. Though the law governing charges of undermining rule mentions similar content as in the law pertaining to a dissolution of a party for such alleged offences, one should be by no means referred to by court in intertwined fashion with the other, according to the former Thammasat dean. 73 year old Thai man swindles friends to pay party entertainers
Police arrested a 73 year old Thai man at his house in the Huay Kwang district of Bangkok after he swindled millions of baht from his friends to pay for two female party entertainers. A Thai man filed a complaint against his 73 year old friend, Charnyut Saelok, accusing him of swindling about 300,000 baht. The victim explained that Charnyut allegedly borrowed money under false pretences, claiming it was for his adopted child’s medical treatment, who was critically ill. Charnyut showed the victim receipts from Ramathibodhi Hospital making the victim feel guilty and prompted further lending. Charnyut also deceived his friend with promises of repaying the debt from a supposed court case victory, offering 2 million baht. However, he later cut off all communication with the victim. Subsequently, the victim sought out Charnyut and discovered that other friends had also fallen victim to his deceit, collectively losing several million baht. The victim later found out that the hospital receipts were forged and that the money went to two women who worked as entertainers, not to the adopted child. Officers from the Phetchakasem Police Station found Charnyut living in a house in the Huay Kwang district of Bangkok, leading to his arrest on March 13. Charnyut faces three charges including: Section 341 of the Criminal Law: committing fraud by deceiving another person with a false statement or concealing the truth. The penalty is imprisonment of up to three years, a fine of up to 60,000 baht, or both. Section 265 of the Criminal Law: faking an official document. The penalty is imprisonment from six months to five years and a fine from 10,000 to 100,000 baht. Section 14(1) of the Computer Act: importing forged data into the computer system in a manner that is likely to cause damage to the third party or the public. The penalty will be imprisonment for up to five years and a fine of up to 100,000 baht. by Petch Petpailin Photo via Cop's Magazine Source: The Thaiger 2024-03-15 - Discover how Cigna Insurance can protect you with a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment. Thailand tokes on new approach: CBD-infused Marijuana oil to fight drug addiction
The Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine (DTAM) has initiated a pioneering programme utilising marijuana oil infused with high levels of CBD to combat drug dependency. Dr Thewan Thanirat, DTAM’s deputy director-general, unveiled the innovative prescription, named Karun Osoth, a concoction of coconut oil and CBD meticulously balanced to 10 milligrammes of CBD per millilitre of coconut oil. This revolutionary therapy not only addresses the cravings for drugs but also alleviates withdrawal symptoms including insomnia and muscle pains, offering a glimmer of hope to countless individuals grappling with addiction. CBD, a vital compound found abundantly in both marijuana and hemp plants, distinguishes itself from THC by its non-psychoactive properties, ensuring patients experience relief without the intoxicating effects. Thewan disclosed that the DTAM initiated a trial run of the Karun Osoth marijuana oil across three hospitals as part of a pilot project. Bangkok Thai Traditional Medicine Hospital, with 278 patients undergoing treatment, leads the charge alongside Udon Thani Thai Traditional Medicine Hospital (treating 196 patients) and Phatthalung Thai Traditional Medicine Hospital (caring for 76 patients). Preecha Nuthim, director of Bangkok Thai Traditional Medicine, highlighted the versatility of herbal remedies in combating addiction, citing little ironweed as a potential aid in curbing nicotine cravings. Additionally, he announced a collaborative effort between DTAM, the Department of Probation, and the Nonthaburi provincial administration to host a 15-day event in Nonthaburi, reported The Nation. Scheduled from March 19 to April 2, this event aims to evaluate and administer herbal compounds to individuals battling addiction within the province, marking a significant stride towards a drug-free future. In related news, in a groundbreaking announcement, Dr Kampon Sriwatanakul, chairman of the Thailand National Charter of Health and other industry bigwigs, unveiled plans for the much-anticipated CISW MedCann Festival International (CMCF) 2024 for medical cannabis. This year’s CMCF pledges to dazzle attendees with an array of innovative products, exclusive items, and exhilarating activities, all centred around the burgeoning medical cannabis sector. by Mitch Connor Photo courtesy of The Nation Source: The Thaiger 2024-03-15 - Discover how Cigna Insurance can protect you with a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment. CHIANG MAI, March 14 (TNA) – A pit bull viciously attacked a neighbor of its owner, leaving her arm nearly severed. CCTV footage from a house in Chiang Mai’s Sansai district showed a male pit bull around 10 years old, leaping to maul the arm of a 30-year-old woman until she was pulled away by her boyfriend and the owner of the pit bull. It took over 2 minutes to separate them, leaving a pool of blood. Following the incident, the owner locked the dog in a cage, and someone else offered to take care of him on the same night. Lamduan Bunrit, 67, the pit bull’s owner said that her son had brought the dog home several years ago. After his passing last month, she had to care for the dog alone.
