Angry Russian Tourist Forcefully Shaves Part of Pattaya Barber’s Hair
Pattaya — A Thai hairdresser in Jomtien found himself in an unusual situation after an angry Russian customer took a razor from him and shaved part of his hair following a misunderstanding during a haircut. According to reports, Mr. Supachai Maneecharoen, a 32-year-old hairdresser from Nakhon Si Thammarat, was cutting the hair of a male Russian customer on January 25th when the incident occurred. Thailand warns students about ‘rub hew’ courier service amid drug trafficking concerns
Authorities in Nonthaburi, Thailand, intercepted a suspicious package containing 7.5 kilogrammes of cocaine, concealed inside 15 seat cushions, on January 2. The package, which was addressed to the homeowner’s daughter studying in Australia, was discovered after the homeowner reported the package. In Thailand, a trend called rub hew, which translates to help carry, is common among young people studying abroad. It involves offering transnational courier services for a fee, depending on the weight of the package. This service is often found on social media pages used by overseas student groups and frequent travellers. However, authorities have warned about the dangers of participating in these activities. Piyasiri Wattanavarangkul, deputy secretary-general of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), advised that many couriers unknowingly become victims of drug trafficking networks. He clarified that despite being unknowing carriers, couriers can still face prosecution if found with an illegal substance. In 2023 alone, 16 Thais were apprehended at Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang and Phuket airports for attempting to smuggle drugs out of the country. According to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) commissioner, Police Lieutenant General Khirisak Tantinvachai, the majority of these offenders were aware they were carrying drugs, mostly heroin and methamphetamines. by Mitch Connor Photo courtesy of Bangkok Post Full story: The Thaiger 2024-02-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. From brooms to boom: Street sweeper sweeps up 12-million-baht lottery jackpot
A street sweeper’s life transformed overnight when luck smiled upon her with a 12-million-baht government lottery win. Somsong Singsa, a 56 year old municipal worker from Si Sa Ket province, revealed that a vendor’s persuasion made her purchase two winning tickets. After four decades of toil, she now plans to resign and provide for her family, who are overjoyed at their sudden fortune. In the town of Nong Khruea Sud, within the streets that Somsong Singsa has kept clean for over 40 years, a celebration erupted as her family learned of her windfall. The win of 12 million baht came from the government lottery drawn yesterday, February 1, where Somsong held the two tickets bearing the number 607063. Just a few days before the draw, while resting during her lunch break at the Ton Makluea market, Somsong was approached by a lottery ticket vendor who implored her to purchase tickets. Claiming she had tickets that would win the first prize, the vendor convinced Somsong to buy two instead of the one she intended. It was a decision that would dramatically change her life. by Nattapong Westwood Photo courtesy of KhaoSod Full story: The Thaiger 2024-02-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
