Thai Woman Charged with Murder in Wales Over Death of Boy, 7
Wales-Police have confirmed on January 12th, 2024, that a woman has been charged with murder following the death of a child in Haverfordwest. 42-year-old Papaipit Linse, born in Chiang Mai, Thailand, was arrested at the scene, and has now been charged with murder. She has been remanded in police custody to appear at court in Swansea (Saturday, Jan 13, Wales Time). Forensic investigators spent all of the evening of January 12th at a top-floor flat on Upper Market Street, following the death of a seven-year-old boy in Haverfordwest. Pembrokeshire’s county town is in shock after the incident, which led to the arrest of Linse, believed to be the mother of the child. Police vans lined the street outside the mixed retail and residential building, where neighbours and passersby have started laying flowers. A neighbour, who preferred to remain anonymous, described witnessing paramedics responding to the incident, a sight that he said he found deeply upsetting. The police confirmed the arrest of the woman soon after the incident. Neighbours know her as a reserved Asian woman, a single mother raising two children under challenging circumstances. The ground floor of the building, formerly a physiotherapy studio and gym known as TriExercise, is a familiar landmark in the town’s Upper Market Street. Dr. Sean Phelan, a 69-year-old hospital doctor living next door, expressed his shock, noting that the woman was always quite friendly, although he did not know her well. Thailand and Cambodia join forces to tackle transboundary haze pollution
Thailand Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin yesterday unveiled plans to form a joint task force with Cambodia to combat transboundary haze pollution. The decision was made ahead of a scheduled meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet set to take place in Thailand on February 7. The leaders will undertake a joint study tour to Sa Kaeo province, an area severely impacted by PM2.5 transboundary pollution. The pollution in Thailand’s border provinces, typically caused by wildfires, necessitates coordination with neighbouring countries for effective management, Thavisin explained. Thailand’s Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) will provide satellite images to aid the task force’s response planning for hotspots created by wildfires. The continuous exchange of information between Thailand and Cambodia via the future joint task force will be a critical factor in the countries’ collective efforts to combat transboundary haze pollution. PM Srettha emphasised the government’s focus on the right to clean air, alongside tourism-based economic stimulation. In line with this commitment, the Clean Air Bill has been introduced to Parliament. by Sugandhi Batra PHOTO: via Earth.co Full story: The Thaiger 2024-01-13 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Thai student protest erupts over unsatisfactory school meals
School director transferred after student’s criticism of lunch quality sparks protest by Mitch Connor PHOTO: via ETV Bharat A recent student protest has led to the imminent transfer of a school director in the Mae La Noi district, Mae Hong Son. The unrest was sparked when the director, Sineenat Rodkrue, complained to the local police about a student who had criticised the quality of school lunches on social media. The controversy unfolded on yesterday, January 12, at Rat Prachanukhro 21 School, where students assembled at 8.30am to prevent Rodkrue from entering the premises. On the previous day, she had filed a complaint with Mae La Noi police, accusing the student of violating the Computer Crimes Act. The student’s contentious post was shared on the Watchdog. Act’s Facebook page, included a photograph highlighting the poor quality of the school lunch – a simple meal of rice, a boiled egg and chilli paste. The post quickly caught the attention of Thai social media users who began questioning the irregularities in school lunches. Reacting to the situation, Mae Hong Son’s provincial governor, Chettha Mosikarat, ordered his deputy to promptly investigate the issue to quell any further discontent within the school. The educational establishment houses over 500 students from a range of ethnic backgrounds. However, a superior’s urgent demand dictated that the school director be transferred within 24 hours. Thai Government plans digital shift for lottery sales
The Government Lottery Office (GLO), under the umbrella of the Finance Ministry, unveiled plans to transition from traditional lottery stalls to digital ones. Lavaron Sangsnit, the permanent finance secretary and chairman of the GLO board, revealed this strategy, which will be initiated from next month. The GLO has been selling digital lottery tickets through the Pao Tang app since 2022 as a part of an effort to combat the issue of ticket sales exceeding the standard price of 80 baht each. The intention is to allow small vendors to sell digital lottery tickets using iPads or mobile devices in the future. Just as with physical lottery tickets, buyers will retain the ability to select their preferred numbers. At this time, the office offers both digital and physical lottery tickets. Approximately 80 million tickets are sold via general vendors, with an additional 22 million sold through the Pao Tang app, culminating in a total of 102 million tickets. The GLO has plans to slowly elevate the number of digital lottery tickets sold, to minimise the impact on street vendors who predominantly sell physical tickets. by Alex Morgan Photo taken from Bangkok Post Full story: The Thaiger 2024-01-13 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. House Committee denied access to hospitalised ex-PM Thaksin by Mitch Connor Chaichana Detdecho leading the panel for addressing this concern | Photo taken from Bangkok Post A visit to the Police General Hospital by members of the House Committee on police affairs was met with resistance yesterday, as they were denied access to the hospitalised former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The committee’s objective was to verify if Thaksin was indeed under treatment at the hospital, following approval for the visit granted on Monday. The committee, led by the chairman and Democrat MP for Nakhon Si Thammarat, Chaichana Detdecho, arrived at the hospital located in the Pathumwan district at 10am. The team had previously coordinated with the hospital to organise the inspection and verify the standard of care provided to inmates, including Thaksin, who is 74 years old. According to reports, Thaksin was admitted to the 14th floor of the hospital on his return to Thailand on August 22. The committee’s visit was conducted under the guidelines of Section 129 of the Constitution, which gives the committee the right to investigate matters that stir public suspicion. A letter was sent to the national police chief, Police General Torsak Sukvimol, who supervises the hospital, by Chaichana seeking permission for the inspection. The committee was keen on examining the hospital’s procedures for treating inmates and ensuring that all prisoners receive equal treatment. Bangkok governor defends city’s fourth plan revision amid public criticism
Chadchart Sittipunt, the Governor of Bangkok, stood firm in defence of the city’s fourth plan revision amid public censure for its perceived favouritism towards developers. The 57 year old city chief yesterday, January 11, responded to the criticism by affirming City Hall’s receptiveness to constructive feedback while cautioning against potentially divisive comments. Chadchart explained via a Facebook post that the city’s laws necessitate a plan revision every five years to accommodate the evolving needs of Bangkok’s growth. He stressed that the updated plan’s primary goal is to improve the living conditions of the city’s inhabitants. Public hearings are currently being held for the revised plan before its submission to a Provincial City Plan Committee for further consideration. One such hearing, held on Saturday, witnessed the voicing of various concerns. Korn Chatikavanij, a former finance minister and a representative of a civic group, criticised the plan for its apparent emphasis on intensifying the city’s density at the expense of improving the quality of life of its residents. He also questioned the rationale behind widening 148 roads across the city, a move that City Hall asserts will support the railway system. by Mitch Connor PHOTO: via matichon Full story: The Thaiger 2024-01-13 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
