Even visa companies never seem to have a clue. Last 1 I saw told me I was on overstay and needed to pay fine- I want home checked with passport and I was NOT on overstay. I don't know if she was trying to scam me on 8000 baht for a none existent overstay. I've had zero issue at immigration, as it was not true.

You don't have a clue. Thai immigration has always been easy to deal with, but I complete the paperwork (TM7) copy of other stuff and get a bank letter. Very easy. If you can't handle it maybe get an agent to help.

The ME visa method was not without risk and those of us that used the ME visa must accept that risk rather than trying to blame others. The travel restrictions manifested a risk that none of us would have contemplated, but that is life and only you can deal with it.

I was an RAF apprentice when Rhodesia declared UDI in 1964. The Rhodesian apprentices were immediately deported, passports became invalid overnight. You should be thankful the government has exercised some leniency.

Before you get on the high horse, I was on ME visa, last entry from Malaysia on 6th Feb. You really ought to reflect on where the lack of foresight lies.

You've had ample time time to put funds in a Thai bank and get them seasoned, so why didn't you do it?

They have to pay the overstay fine first.

Hopefully those sitting in crowded immigration halls will realise that if extended this will not end anything and its time to go home.

I think all embassies offer travel assistance to their citizens. Normally it in the form of a loan for a plane ticket. If someone is on an overstay that person is responsible to get the overstay cleared up not the embassy. The embassy then holds the passport until the loan is repaid. If your a US citizen it's on the website.

It also covered those doing 90 day border runs that couldn't show financials or didn't want to. Since the borders are closed this group lost their means to get visas. IMO TI is happy to get this group cleaned out and/or made legitimate.

The date is what's stamped on the passport. That's what is important. If you miss that date you'll be on an overstay.

It's nothing to do with others. Some people screw up and don't get it done. They are 100% responsible.

The system overwhelms some and they might be better off asking an agent to help. Others have no problem and can easily do it themselves. To each their own.

I disagree. The applicant who waits until the last days is at fault for overwhelming the immigration offices. Allowing extra time won't solve the problem, it only delays the same problem.

The biggest problem is with those who have been in Thailand a long time and relied on border runs and yearly new visas. Most had no alternate plans and are stuck. Some have houses, cars, and family and no where to return to. I'm sorry but if they can't come up with the financials they shouldn't be in Thailand. Lack of financial also indicates to me that their contributions to Thailand are minimal. Thailand wants those who can help the economy not those just seeking a cheap lifestyle. 

Some put everything in a house and/or car, but TI wants proof of money in the bank or monthly foreign transfers.
