Just love this bar stool, tough guy attitude from the TVF. Standing tall and proud with Thai immigration against these filthy farangs. They similarly suffer from various deficiencies and inadequacies, and have a serious need of an ego boost at the expense of others.
Anyway, in many cases we were told to wait, by either immigration or our employers. Many went to immigration quite early. They didn't know what to tell us. I distinctly saw several on the TVF quoting immigration with things to the effect of "we don't know, come back later, the government will have an answer". Or their papers were denied straight away, or not looked at at all.
In my case and others I've seen, we were led to believe by our employers that they were handing it. They had us filling in and signing papers since two months ago. They hinted at having contacts in immigration, had been making progress, and we were going straight to Non-B. Turns out they were getting nowhere. Now we're all scrambling to do get this Covid "under consideration" stamp ourselves.
While the bar stool honorary Thai immigration officers have been furiously tapping away as they kick back those Leos, a tough job, I know, I've been working 6-7 day weeks trying to teach in a compressed Covid schedule, hoping this job of mine will soon be made totally legit, as the authorities have yet to make a clear path to do so.
Sorry tale but it's been 6 months of free stay without the right visa and not relying on border runs. Those with some brains took care of it and are probably the ones sitting on the stool laughing. Make sure you dress appropriately and use sunscreen. I don't drink during the daytime, but if you see someone with a Pepsi, it could be me.

So what makes him a centrist? Most every leftist claims to be a centrist.
It's more like the center of the ultra far left in my opinion. He can't see it because where he sits there are only far lefties on his right and ultra far lefties left. Or maybe he's at the far left of the ultras. At least he's consistent.
Reuters is not without their own political bias, but not as bad as CNN or MSNBC.

At time of writing we are aware of 42 British Nationals in prison in Thailand.
Will this increase after Sept 26 deadline? Will the British be donating essentials of tea and crackers?

I don't think people on either side (except you and I) want it to be balanced, they want it tipped to their side.
You're making things up. I know the court is political, I just don't think it should be. It seems to me Presidents used to nominate and the Senate pretty much just confirmed. Those days are gone.
For years it's been tilting left (progressive), hopefully now it will focus on the constitution and laws.

On another news site, the number is quoted as nearer 100,000. But regardless of the number, Covid-19 hasn't been a general free pass for unregulated immigration in any country that I know of. The Mongolian diaspora weren't even allowed to repatriate. Sucks to be Mongolian.
Queue the comments about how easy it is to be "stranded" longer in Malaysia, Vietnam, etc..
I didn't know you were Mongolian. That explains why you write English with an accent.

I wonder how accurate this figure of 150,000 is. I just don't see it. Doubt there will ever be any sort of breakdown.
I don't see it either, but I believe it includes all those relying on yearly border runs for fresh visas and 90 day runs. Of course this hasn't been possible with closed borders.
This was always, IMO, a work a round and not popular with immigration. In fact some consulates had tightened up so this group was always looking for new alternative counselates.
They aren't tourist for the most part. The real tourist went home to their jobs.

28 pages and still no one has given any possible reasoning to the rationale behind this decision to kick out 150,000 paying customers.
Seems to be a lot of haters here too.
They aren't paying customers and avoid keeping money in the Thai bank (financials) of paying for extensions. At least they could pay through an agent but they don't want to do that either. Nothing but a free ride will make them happy. I don't hate anyone, but this group disgusts me.

I hate it when people are unnecessarily rude AND misrepresent the posts replied to.
Guess that two major tenets in your idea of 'democracy' are the freedom to insult people you do not agree with, and the right to remain ignorant of what they actually say.
I comment the Thai students protesting. The was no attacking the police, looting or rioting. They show a lot of class.

You should get around more. India gives 1 year and 5 year multiple-entry tourist visas. The latter will cost you 100 $ if you're American or from the UK, for most others 80 $. Maximum stay at a time 180 days (US, UK), otherwise 90 days. And the visa is an e-visa, you get in online within 48 hours. Now howzzat?
Well your next stop should be Indra but not for me.

Why would I help an overstayer who had months to settle up, or get a go fund me account started.
Because that way they will never learn and continue making terrible decisions. Ask their parents to increase their allowance, might work. If not move back home and make them pay the price.

I don't believe there are 150,000 tourists, in the traditional sense, stranded in Thailand.
I believe the majority of these people are the erstwhile quasi-residents who have been using tourist and other short term visas to live long term in Thailand. The border runners.
The amnesties have kept them legal for the last few months, but now that has come to an end and the borders are still closed. The border hop is not possible.
Many of these expats have families, homes, jobs(!), etc. here, but have hit a brick wall in efforts to stay legally. If lucky they can get an Embassy letter and a short extension. If not, they would have to return to home country and try to return eventually, or perhaps just become illegal until they can again easily cross borders. No wonder many here are so concerned at events.
I don't know if the government will recognise their plight and make exceptions for them to stay, or if they perhaps see this as a chance to change the practice.
Personally, I feel people with strong ties here should be given a chance to wait out the apocalypse.
Most , I believe, just don't want to put money in the bank and meet the financials. They got away with it for years and didn't believe things would change. I wish them well but they need to do things correctly to make it work now. They were given 6 months to do it but for various reasons haven't accepted the advice from the government. Some will get 30 or 60 days to sort things out. I hope they use it wisely.
It's an eye opener for me as I would never believe so many were doing it.

It's already afternoon, and you don't have time to take care of your business at immigration. I don't think they have a night shift.

Early lunch break today? You must live a pretty sad existence if you have nothing better to do than trolling the forum
Such an insightful observation, but far from true. You constantly complain because you can't or won't do things the correct way. You feel entitled to better treatment but give nothing in return. I bet you are well treated in Australia as well where everything is free.

How exactly does deporting 150,000 tourists help in the cleanup process?
They need to find a use for the paddy wagons parked outside of immigration offices. They look like brand new and ready to go. I'm sure once they are fired up, their will be a run to the border or airport.

So 4 days difference is a problem ?....????
Maybe they are just loosing patience seeing all come anyway last moments ..
The problems of why I can't do it keep coming up. After waiting 6 months these things keep coming up. Then with an extra 30 days of kicking the can down the road, complaints will start again. Where does personal responsibility of doing things correctly come into play?

These 150,000 are now running loose in Thailand, unmonitored.
The new arrivals will
- have to input 50K mininum into Thai economy via ASQ.
- have 100,000 usd covid insurance
- be monitored all the time via tracking app.
Big difference, these 150K currently endanger national security.
What I read is that TI will start rounding them up and know their phone numbers and addresses. Why do you think that their is a paddy wagon parked at immigration?

Regardless, unless they are taking local jobs or straining government funds...why kick them out? Even if Thailand is literally only making 1 bht a day from them, that's still a "gain". Why opt out of a gain?
OMG you want Thailand to become a nanny state for poor foreigners. This is a real opportunity for TI and MFA to clean up a mess (border visa scams) that's been going on for years and make the system clean.
We'll probably get new You Tube videos now on beating the system.
Unfortunately many don't listen and could be caught in over stays, which could be ugly.
