Interesting perspective (Reminds me of one I once shared at infant school during "playtime", also similar to: my dads bigger than your dad lol lol lol ) To be serious however. I personally don't think its the case that folk are 1, bitter or 2, cant afford it. Its more due to the fact that in this instance, they have decided not to allow themselves to be fleeced. I hope you will agree that "We all have choices" and should be able to make them.

Money, Fool, Parted - you put them in order if you still can.

I'll happily keep my wealth and choose where and when to spend it, without the influence and rants of child's perspective..

Check some of the FB groups, you'll see what I mean.

I can't imagine many 'Foreign' teachers outside the LOS awaiting entry would be prepared to foot the heavy cost of getting in to take up their posts at present.

Never mind the completely crazy and convoluted requirements for obtaining a visa then your cert of entry.

Flight possibly 2.5K GBP last time I looked only business class was being offered on a repat flight out of UK for non Thai.

    ASQ 50 - 100k Baht

By the time you have added costs of tests, insurance, fit to fly certs etc you could be looking at the guts of 5K GBP before you have even taken up your post.

Thats gotta me a no then!

Where do you check prices for repatriation flights for non thais?

The OP has said in another thread that this package is only available to Thai nationals.  I asked him to update this thread but he has declined to do so.

Not declined to do so, but forgot to do so lol. I am not on here 24/7. The package is only for Thai nationals or foreigners with work permits. Another way couldve been ED visa with a course at the university (since only official education institutions are allowed for COE) but my girlfriend called the university and was told they will not allow it for the rest of the year. So no new options for now...

You mention on that thread you want to get married to your Thai gf. Would it be possible to bring her to your country (Netherlands) just to get married, then fly her back home to Thailand and you join her once done with the paperwork from the embassy?

I was actually considering this option too. It's a bit extreme, but I can think of a few Thai girls who would marry me, lol. Of course meeting her in a country where we can both enter and get married would be a challenge by itself...

(Not THAT desperate yet, but give me a few months... if there is no vaccine by the end of the year all bets are off)

She just became a surgeon, so it's hard for her to take time off. We might do this but might take a while. I hope there will be more possibilities in the near future.

There's a recent thread on here with a Thai hospital offering a package of treatment including "supplements to boost the immune system" that qualified the buyer/patient for a medical visa.  I don't know whether these "supplements" could be administered in his home country or not, but the poster seemed confident he could get in.  There was also discussion on the point about leaving at the end of treatment mentioned by jackdd, but not sure how it ended up.

That's my own thread. That was just a language barrier. I was on the phone with them, and it's only available to Thai nationals or people with a work permit.

As far as i know it's like this:

Medical: You have to leave after the treatment.

Student: Only allowed in if you study at a university, not for attending a common language school. I think the semester starts in August, so probably too late now to sign up for anything. Maybe there are more hurdles than that.

Work: Not possible to get a work permit while outside of Thailand.

Medical: you can stay after the treatment. This is confirmed. It's just very hard to get one, especially when there's nothing wrong with you lol.

  7. I tried everything man.. For now it's not going to happen.

Medical: Only if you have something serious that you cannot let a doctor treat in your own country. (you specifically need a letter from a local doctor telling the Thai authority that you need treatment in Thailand)

Student: You can still get an education Visa, but you cannot get entry to Thailand.

Work permit, this is maybe the only option, good luck on Linkedin!

I'm in the exact same position as your friend. Seems like there are no real options, even when money is not an issue.

They are scared of the virus, same in Australia and New Zealand. The Thai government made foreigners the scapegoats before they closed the country down and I expect that xenophobia will return when tourists are allowed back again.

When was you last in the country?

    October last year.
