My wife is Isaan Lao, but by a quirk of fate, ended up in Chicago as a teenager.

She has told me many times this story.

"The Thai elite hate us, but we're just the servants, but they hate you even more

That may well be playing out in front of our eyes

Very true.  Was always amazed at all the falangs prancing around Bangkok blowing whistles following Suthep supporting the coup to bring in elite rule when it was very well known that the elites would drive them out of Thailand at the first opportunity, this plan has been in progress since the coup, ever more stringent visa, 90 day, tm30 inforcement, many turned away to the airport if had too many tourist stamps.  now all on extended tourist visas must leave. Expect to see new rules before borders open again to stop border run, back to back tourist stamps, maybe need 6 months between visas or something? Don't cry about the money you are spending supporting your family, they hate the issan lao thais nearly as much as they hate you and to deprive them of some income is only a bonus in their eyes.

  3. Sorry to be negitave but I believe this government is using this pandemic to clear the country of all westerners, those who don,t have sufficent funds to comply with visa regulations now, those with funds later. The tourism future for Thailands hi so elite families and their chosen junta government is with China.  Western tourist money cannot be controlled and much of it finds it,s way up north and to easan to families who do NOT support this junta but Chinese tourist money is funnelled directly to the top elite family owned businesses who supported the coup and sponser this junta government.

A problem with that is that the criminals are safe on the beach.

The scum dregs that pay the crims to board the boat so they can enter europe illegally and lie and cheat the system are criminals as much as the smugglers.  Many are already involved in illegal activity in their home cesspot countries and bring their scams and criminality with them when they invade

There are plenty of Mitsu water pump sellers, all the big stores like HomePro, Thai Watsadu, Baan and Beyond etc, but I don't know of any Mitsu approved repairers, but I'm sure they are out there.

Shop on left about 50 m past bus station north pattaya road, can repair, replace whatever. Friends mitsu wp needed a new switch/relay was costing 1800 b but they by passed it with another type 500b

I guess if it was a genuine international driving permit it can be used everywhere except in the country that it was issued. So what's the point of having a renewed if you can't use it in Thailand. Secondly I am pretty sure that an international driving permit can only be obtained in Bangkok. I think you might have got a fake one

Have renewed my IDP a few times at Chonburi, cannot do in pattaya. Need residence cert from immigration.

Thai issued IDP cannot be used in Thailand but is accepted as a translation of your Thai drivers licence mostly worldwide

Thailand has been presented with a unique opportunity, particularly Pattaya, to follow examples set by many forward thinking organisations and re-invent itself while the place is deserted. Bulldoze walking street beach-side, bury the wires, fix the roads and sewers, install trams, fence off the beach, fix the pier etc. etc.  Simply recognise where they are, what they've got and what is needed and stop sticking band-aids on everything. This could be turned round to be the best thing that happened to the country, it might take 5 years (about as long as it took to build an underpass) but would be worth it.

Borrow loads of cheap dosh, get the millions of unemployed Thais working on infrastructure in place of serving the tourist trade and be ready for a magnificent 're-start' in a year or so. Bloke called Keynes tried it about 50 years ago, quite effective apparently.

    But, TIT....so no kin chance

Up to now for good or bad pattaya has had a unique reputation, some came to partake in the fun and games others just to look and wonder, walking street is it's biggest attraction but some people think better to bulldoze what made you famous and wealthy. As a businessman I would not bulldoze anything on walking street until I had developed the adjacent mile of beach road to these top quality exacting standards and it is packed with the quality family tourists that you think the bulldozing of walking street will bring.

Murky waters indeed, and much suspicion and doubt raised given the previous shenanigans seen here.

This all started with an "accident." The condition of the driver at the time irrespective. Boss didn't set off home with the intention of ploughing someone down, that just happened.

His performance after is totally disgraceful, but expected, given what the elite here get away with every day.

The suggestions about this latest "accident" would raise the stakes dramatically if an intentional murder has occurred though.

The reasons given for stealing and destroying the phone do seem hapless.

Would be awesome and totally ironic if the corruption that has blatantly gone on here, (given Prayuts insistence he would stamp it out),  causes the level of anger needed that brings the apple cart down. Many folk righteously angry out there right now after all and not just about this. The Government in general is not overly popular, or trusted with many.

Not overly popular ???? I find that the junta is not disliked, it is hated with a vengance

I'd love to discover more of Thailand by traveling about to help increase domestic travel; however to facilitate that, I need a couple of changes to be made; 1) An end to the 2 tier pricing scheme in Thailand's public tourist venues & hotels!  2) An end to the ridiculous 90 day process & TM-30 process!  (Why not instead just put a chip in our passports or cellphones when we arrive so you can track our where abouts all day long?)  3) I need to see a 50% drop in the beer & wine prices! I refuse to pay 300 baht anymore for a bottle of <deleted> wine that I used to purchase for less 150 baht!  I believe Thailand may currently have the most expensive beer & wine prices in the entire world!  Let me know when you have resolved the above 3 items, & in the meantime I'll have my bags all packed & ready, & Good to Go!
