I've been on Soc Sec for three years and always used EMS. It's way slower than promised and seems to get stuck in the US where it lands. BUT, I assume it eventually reaches the destination as I've not had my SS suspended.
I'm in Phuket Town and have yet to get mine. I'll use Thai Post air mail (registered?) as many have suggested here. It's frustrating waiting and it'll be frustrating wondering if it gets back to the US in time. They 'could' put '7162 form received' on my My Social Security page... nah, that would be way to helpful. 🤦That's the way I always sent mine this is the first time I have been told this

The major reason concrete is favored over steel construction in towers is that concrete can make flat floor slabs with a minimal depth of structure. Since no beams are necessary, the underside of the slab can be plastered and you have a smooth flat ceiling. Note the uniformity of the floor slabs in the photo below, especially the underside. This also significantly reduces the overall height of the building.
unlike concrete, it is nearly impossible to create a completely flat floor assembly in a steel framed building. A floor slab in a steel structure consists of beams, girders and decking. All of these members have different depths. The only way to create a flat ceiling surface is to suspend a floating hung ceiling below the lowest point of a steel depth-of-structure. This leaves an interstitial space. interstitial space in steel construction is a waste. Not only that, but the depth of this wasted space can be as much as three feet per floor, adding significantly to the overall height of the building.
That space can be used for Hvac duct work, wiring, plumbing and sprinkler systems

Without wanting to diminish the tragedy of the situation, can anyone spot steel girders in the rubble of the collapsed office building in Bangkok? Skyscraper building has used steel beams for over 100 years, but all I see is rebar-reinforced concrete, fine for low level housing but not muilt-storey office blocks in a major city.
1 report I saw it's a chicom company building it they claimed it had topped out but now they are saying it's only 30 percent. it's the same construction as the building that collapsed in Florida

As of now, Yingluck's return remains under consideration, and no definitive plans have been set. The delicate balance of political atmosphere and legal considerations will likely influence any future decisions regarding her re-entry into Thai

What is holding her back?
Does she have to apply for a visa and that takes too long? No!
She fears jail, like all criminals.
It's sad when articles like this are written in a way as if we all should be sad that the beloved Yingluck is not here.
How about writing an article that one criminal, who fled the country for many years, and then evaded jail with a dubious hospital stay, talks about another criminal who run away from jail?
Thailand should jail criminals, all of them. That would be a nice start.
Surprised the defacto pm hasn't given her a full pardon

What's all the fuss about, it's been the same for the last 25 years that I know of.
If you have a disability or not the skill set to navigate the obstacles, please stay safe, remain in the west.
I read about a stupid Chinese woman who refused to use the overhead walkway on the Sukhumvit, crossing the road, getting hit.....bloody idiot.
She was removed from the gene pool

As others have said, this is utterly devastating. RIP little angels and little soldiers.
Surely there should be a ban on LPG being used by any buses, minivans, taxis or any form of public transport; the financial savings that are the reason for using LPG, could be counterbalanced in tax concessions for companies and taxi drivers. Don’t let this ever happen again.
Other countries use LNG for public busses with out a problem. Maybe Thailand needs to forget about a submarine and invest that money in foreign workers that can maintain the busses (not third world countries)

Excellent! You understand it, the farmers understand it, why doesnt the government?
I know it all comes back to dollars and cents but it is a shame that subsidised cooperatives cant be organised to turn all the agricultural waste, such as sugar cane and corn waste, into mulch or compost to feed back into the land which badly needs organic matter. Nearly everything is burned with almost nothing going back ino the soil. The result would be much cleaner air and increased farm production.
They are bailing the sugar cane leaves and selling it here probably as bio fuel

This brings back memories of the 2008 Preah Vihear Temple border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia in the lead up to the coup that bought Abhisit to power. Ultra nationalist stirring up trouble to oust an elected government. Won’t work again.
