I plan to go to Thailand on Jan 12 this coming Thursday. What should be do? I do not have enough time to get a jab.

Thai gov should make the visa processes easier and faster. It is less of the cost issue than the time issue. Still do not know what the 90 day reporting is all about. If the government get rid of the 90 day reporting, what bad things can happen??
Make it simple and charge more if you have to. This will make everyone happy.

I thought this visa is free once you prove your worth. Now it seems it costs about the same as retirement visa. What is the fanfare all about? is it really a special deal. With the way it is going, I don't see a million foreigners will sign up for this 10 year visa? Do you??
-
Thai PM approved the 10 year visa scheme. Hope it will roll out soon. Does anyone have any idea about how long the application to approval will take. Thanks
-
If it is 10 year visa, why do you need to renew after 5 years? That does not seem logical.
Why do not they just keep in simple? You need to invest this much (a set amount) and we will give you the visa. To have both a set investment amount and a yearly requirement seem to complex the issue. Some people have the money and some people are able to make a good salary, why require both?

Thanks for the replies, everyone. This visa got to be better than non OX or any other type of Thai long term vises. Thailand is desperate for the cash of these "rich" foreigners bring. They got to offer something more enticing.

I am very interested in the new visa. Does anyone know when we can expect to start applying for the new 10 year visa?
I am ok with the investment requirement but a little concerned by the proof of income above 40,000 USD yearly.
If anyone has more info about the new 10 year visa, please share. Thanks

Without foreign tourists, businesses need to adjust and living standard for many Thai will come down. No easy money so to speak.
I think Thailand will be fine as long as people can accept income and living standard coming down like 10 to 20% and make adjustments accordingly.

China has a trade war with US. It wants to preserve hard currency and will not encourage its citizens to travel overseas for a while. My guess is until the economical situation is cleared up. Minimum is not before Chinese new year 2021.
Thailand is still being coy about letting foreign tourists in. But honestly there is not much risk letting Chinese in right now. China is highly regulated to fight Covid. To give you an example: in one university, they do not let students go off campus.
IMHO, It is better for Thailand to force the issue saying Chinese can come in without any hurdle and then hear what Chinese government respond. Use belt and road project to entice too.

Vietnam is more unpredictable judging from its recent history: war and revolution. Thailand is a safer bet.
No doubt you might get a higher return in Vietnam. But return of your initial investment might be at risk:)

Thanks for your quick reply. I might be interested using it to open up a language school here some day. Right now, I need to reunite with my family oversea first.

That is interesting to know Americans can own 100% of the business. Out of curiosity, how much did it cost to open a new one in Thailand?

Looking back, I was too optimistic about SE asia travel opening up. August looks unlikely. Right now it looks October is possible.
What do you think?

I saw a lot of people at Jomtien IO. I won't say it is packed but it is quite full.
A little surprised. Do not know if foreigners are there as they don't believe that visa amnesty will be extended.
Anyone can shed some light on that.
-
From the advice out of many western embassies and most news from Thai media, it seem to point to the direction that the visa amnesty will not be extended. Everyone who want to stay is best to have plan to get other visas.. Immigration office in Pattaya has a post in the office that you can book app online from July 15th. It seems that Pattaya IO is prepared to handle big traffic after July 15.
It is best to have contingence at this point in time from the best I can gather.
Good luck, everyone.
-
You should be able to. Some visa agent will ask you to give them 2 weeks to 20 data before your visa expire which is July 31 if the amnesty is not extended. Cost for retirement or non immigration O is from 22,000 to 30,000. It may depend on your specific situation to some extend
some agent just need a couple of days before the visa expiration date.
Good luck.

Hello everyone. Does anyone know for sure the July 1 Europe opening to 14 countries is based on nationality or where lived in the past month? What about the case of recent Japan opening to 4 countries: based on passport or where recently lives?
It makes more sense to me to allow entry based on where recently lived, but who knows what each government will actually do?
Good day!

Good news - the PI is opening up with minimal quarantine - only 2 days in hotel, if flying to Cebu. Of course, they ALWAYS proritized re-uniting families, even during their restrictive March rules ("family" is at the core of their culture - even if part of it is "foreign").
I found the news in this post:No flights easy from here announced yet for June, that I can find, but hopefully more options will open up in July. This could help many expats, if we are unable to go out for Visas (undetermined) or get extensions from Immigration.
If other countries do not extend their auto-extensions, I would expect the PI to make a mint from us.
Where is the official announcement of Philipines opening up to foreigners? I could not find it. Could you provide the source or link? Many thanks.
-
If Thailand assign risk based on where you lived recently, you will get in without quarantine . If Thailand assign risk based on your passport, you won't get in all all or need the 14 day quarantine with a US passport.
Enough talk from the government already. When can we actually see new foreigners in Thailand??

Would have thought Japan would have figured mainly because of its offer of free accommodation for travel there.
Planes have to travel both ways so some incentives would be needed to get Japanese to come to Thailand.
Thailand just need to open the bars and have everything in bars heavily discounted say 50%: Japanese will flock back to Thailand as everything here would be peanuts compared to Tokyo. .
Let the Japanese come or anybody for that matter. Just curious that why the entry policy is decided by the people who do not suffer the consequences of no tourism industry in Thailand. Why not we have everyone vote on this issue.

Enough talk. Let us get it going. Let foreigners from low risk come in without too much of additional burden at the airports. Any foreigner to come into Thailand is good and it will tell everyone that the risk is minimum and manageable.
Apparently, people who have the power to decide entry policy are not the ones who are suffering from the ban on foreigners. This is the sad part of the story.

Funny. After my last stay in Thailand (summer 2019) I contemplated doing the same thing, but on a smaller scale:
Giving online English classes to middle and upper class Thai pupils and maybe even adults, for a reasonable fee. I was thinking about doing it via skype or something similar, in order to be able to use visual aids and such, as well as (not sure how to phrase it correctly, in English) showing the student in question how to move their mouth, for certain sounds. However I found that the Thai government doesn't look too kindly about that sort of digital enterprise. This of course wouldn't bother me much, if I had no plans of ever returning to Thailand, but unfortunately that's not the case.
Depending on what exactly your business model is, what the payment-scheme looks like, and whether the whole thing is legal or not, I might be interested.
Just as a heads up: I neither have a degree in English literature, nor a teaching degree. In fact, I don't have any degree at all. That being said, I am confident I am far better suited to teaching English to Thais (up to a certain level, that is), than many of the other foreign (esp. Chinese, Philippino, and even some of the native speaking "teachers" schools employ) teachers at Thai schools, not to mention than the majority of Thai teachers.
Feel free to PM me. Or not. Up to you, same same.
IT IS GOOD YOU BROUGHT up the legal issue of working in Thailand. I understand that teaching Thai student might be a problem if you do not have a work permit for Thailand. But if you teach students outside Thailand, is that still a problem with the Thai authority?

It is quite unbelievable. All happened on the same day Jan 9th. Well do you or do you not need vaccine certificates? Are they going to change again?
