  1. If it is 10 year visa, why do you need to renew after 5 years?  That does not seem logical.

Why do not they just keep in simple?  You need to invest this much (a set amount) and we will give you the visa.  To have both a set investment amount and a yearly requirement seem to complex the issue.  Some people have the money and some people are able to make a good salary, why require both?

  2. From the advice out of many western embassies and most news from Thai media, it seem to point to the direction that the visa amnesty will not be extended. Everyone who want to stay is best to have plan to get other visas..  Immigration office in Pattaya has a post in the office that you can book app online from July 15th.  It seems that Pattaya IO is prepared to handle big traffic after July 15.

It is best to have contingence at this point in time from the best I can gather.

    Good luck, everyone.

  3. You  should be able to.  Some visa agent will ask you to give them 2 weeks to 20 data before your visa expire which is July 31 if the amnesty is not extended.  Cost for retirement or non immigration O is from 22,000 to 30,000.  It may depend on your specific situation to some extend

some agent just need a couple of days before the visa expiration date.

    Good luck.

  4. Hello everyone.  Does anyone know for sure the July 1 Europe opening to 14 countries is based on nationality or where lived in the past month? What about the case of recent Japan opening to 4 countries: based on passport or where recently lives?

It makes more sense to me to allow entry based on where recently lived, but who knows what each government will actually do?

    Good day!

Good news - the PI is opening up with minimal quarantine - only 2 days in hotel, if flying to Cebu.  Of course, they ALWAYS proritized re-uniting families, even during their restrictive March rules ("family" is at the core of their culture - even if part of it is "foreign").
I found the news in this post:

No flights easy from here announced yet for June, that I can find, but hopefully more options will open up in July.  This could help many expats, if we are unable to go out for Visas (undetermined) or get extensions from Immigration.

If other countries do not extend their auto-extensions, I would expect the PI to make a mint from us.

Where is the official announcement of Philipines opening up to foreigners?  I could not find it.  Could you provide the source or link?  Many thanks.

Would have thought Japan would have figured mainly because of its offer of free accommodation for travel there.

Planes have to travel both ways so some incentives would be needed to get Japanese to come to Thailand.

Thailand just need to open the bars and have everything in bars heavily discounted say 50%: Japanese will flock back to Thailand as everything here would be peanuts compared to Tokyo.  .

Let the Japanese come or anybody for that matter.  Just curious that why the entry policy is decided by the people who do not suffer the consequences of no tourism industry in Thailand. Why not we have everyone vote on this issue.

Funny. After my last stay in Thailand (summer 2019) I contemplated doing the same thing, but on a smaller scale:

Giving online English classes to middle and upper class Thai pupils and maybe even adults, for a reasonable fee. I was thinking about doing it via skype or something similar, in order to be able to use visual aids and such, as well as (not sure how to phrase it correctly, in English) showing the student in question how to move their mouth, for certain sounds.

However I found that the Thai government doesn't look too kindly about that sort of digital enterprise. This of course wouldn't bother me much, if I had no plans of ever returning to Thailand, but unfortunately that's not the case.

Depending on what exactly your business model is, what the payment-scheme looks like, and whether the whole thing is legal or not, I might be interested.

Just as a heads up: I neither have a degree in English literature, nor a teaching degree. In fact, I don't have any degree at all. That being said, I am confident I am far better suited to teaching English to Thais (up to a certain level, that is), than many of the other foreign (esp. Chinese, Philippino, and even some of the native speaking "teachers" schools employ) teachers at Thai schools, not to mention than the majority of Thai teachers.

Feel free to PM me. Or not. Up to you, same same.

IT IS GOOD YOU BROUGHT up the legal issue of working in Thailand.  I understand that teaching Thai student might be a problem if you do not have a work permit for Thailand.  But if you teach students outside Thailand, is that still a problem with the Thai authority?

  8. We have traditional trading centers in China.  Now we are interested in online eduction business with an initial focus on teaching English, Chinese and other asian languages in SE Asia.  Anyone here likes the idea or is interested in working together, please feel free to contact me.

Currently, I am stuck in Rayong due to the corona virus and is like to stay here for months.  Look forward to meet and explore if you are similarly minder.

    Cheers.  John
