  1. As has been stated, nearly every IO has different requirements. I got a yearly extension 3 times, then had a 2 year break & applied last week in Cha Am. Interestingly they required an extra 4 new forms, a re-notification of address even though we'ved lived at the same place for 10 years plus some forms in Thai only which I believe give the Thai Police permission to fact check. This is in addtion to one of the new forms being STM.11 Consent Form for Fact Checking. the full list of requirements at Cha Am is below.

Note the following points for Cha Am:

    > You can apply 30 days before your visa expires

    > Bank letter & statements (B100 each) must be signed & stamped by the bank & no more than 7 days before the application date

    > If the letter & statement are issued on the day of the application - all good. If not you may be asked to deposit money in the account & show the deposit slip as proof. Not the the total amounts must agree.

    > Amphur Issued KR.2 (B20) must be no more than 7 days old.

    > Additionally, Cha Am requires their own form called "Residential Certificate" which is quite different to TM.28 or TM.30

    > They also require 6 photos of both spouses & will send out the Thai Immigration Police to take additional photos of both spouses plus a Thai Immigration Police Officer & one of your witnesses.

    > A HAND-DRAWN Map - not a Google Map printout

    > For a first application, 2 witnesses are required  with copies of their ID Card & House Book. For subsequent applications, only one witness is required & it is preferrable to use one of the two for the 1st application. I'm not sure as I was "documented out" but I think my two witnesses also had to sign the Thai Police form giving the police permission to fact check the witnesses.

Sorry if the images below are blurry - can't seem to get them any better.

  2. In my experience with civil & high rise construction contracts in different contries, the Head Contract will specify the Standards materials are to be tested to. This has to be followed up with back to back subcontracts with testing at least equal toj or better than that Standard specified in the Head Contract - & demonstratively so. Otherwise the subcontract is in non-compliance with the Head Contract.

In India, the chain of testing used to be that even the iron ore mine from where the raw material was sourced had to be compliant.

The first Google search for Thai standards gave me this chart, which lists ASTM, BS, ISO & JIS G standards on which these Thai standards were based.

This chart is part of the ASEAN Main POrtal at https://asean.org/

It is useless discussing what standards apply because, as mentioned, they will be listed in the Head Contract. Everything flows on from that.

In NZ the government attempted to remove guns from all citizens. Since then, gun crime among the gangs is higher than it ever was before.

I say attempted because they only partially succeeded.

Well then Wikipedia has it all wrong . . .

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_law_in_New_Zealand

The gun laws of New Zealand are contained in the Arms Act 1983 statute, which includes multiple amendments including those that were passed subsequent to the 1990 Aramoana massacre and the 2019 Christchurch mosque shootings.

Nearly 300,000 licensed firearm owners own and use New Zealand's estimated 1.5 million firearms. Gun licences are issued at the discretion of the police provided they consider the person to be of good standing and without criminal, psychiatric or drug issues; as well as meeting other conditions such as having suitable storage facilities.

Gun laws in New Zealand focus mainly on vetting firearm owners, rather than registering firearms or banning certain types of firearms.

But I suppose the truth will not stop people from spreading misinformation.

I didn’t see it but if she showed up it would have been fun to watch. I’m sure her handlers took her bottle away from her before she got up there.

Just another simpleton repeating misinformation without bothering to check if it is true or not.

    Please look at https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2024/aug/22/social-media/no-social-media-videos-do-not-show-kamala-harris-i/

but then I suppose those who want to believe bulls**t will do so anyway & pass it on to as many as they can to prove how right they are.

Unfortunately, anti gunners dont like training

You Brits used to be good with guns before your gov took them away.

Both are sweeping statements & are obviously wrong.

I don't have statistics but I would think that many "anti gunners" would like to think that those who do have guns are properly trained in their use.

With regards to Brits not having guns, according to

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firearms_regulation_in_the_United_Kingdom

"As of 2024, there are approximately 550,000 licensed firearm owners in Great Britain, holding approximately 2,210,000 firearms."

  6. The headline is "Pattaya Cracks Down on Foreign Criminals to Boost Tourist Confidence"

Then they mention the operation lead to "several arrests". Looking at the 9 categories, they list -

    1. 17 Chinese nationals were caught for running an illegal loan business with a turnover of around 392 million baht - any arrested?

    2.  Three illegal shops were shut down, resulting in 11 arrests, including seven foreign workers

    3. 109 foreigners were found working beyond their visas' limitations - any arrested?

    4. Officials apprehended 469 individuals for entering the country illegally and 33 for overstaying their visas - any arrested?

    5. Failure to Report Alien Residences: A total of 249 offences - any arrested?

    6. 42 cases were documented, with 23 firearms seized - any arrested?

    7. Nine individuals were arrested with large quantities of methamphetamine and ice

    8. 33 motorcycles were confiscated and two reckless driving incidents were addressed - any arrested?

    9. Authorities dealt with 14 vagrants and 33 beggars, finding seven under influence of drugs - any arrested?

Lot of crimes & only 20 arrests listed! What happened to the others?

  7. To give a wider, albeit different perspective about the toll of the Soviet–Afghan War (1979–1989) & the War in Afghanistan (2001–2021), refer to -

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet%E2%80%93Afghan_War

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_in_Afghanistan_(2001%E2%80%932021)

In the Soviet–Afghan War, it should be noted that it is estimated that the Soviets & the Mujahideen lost less than 100,000 fighters each killed in action.

However, guestimates of civilian casualties (no-one will ever know) are –

    ·        Civilians killed ≈ 1-3million

    ·        Civilians wounded ≈3million

    ·        Civilians displaced externally ≈5million

    ·        Civilians displaced internally ≈2million

In the War in Afghanistan (2001–2021), which lasted about twice as long, it is estimated that the Coalition lost less than 100,000 fighters, whilst the various Taliban, al Qaeda, ISIL & local Afghan groups lost over 55,000 fighters.

    Civilian casualties –

    ·        Civilians killed ≈ 70,000+

    ·        Civilians wounded ≈200,000

Conclusion: The ones who got their bums booted were the civilians. Do not go to war with the Russians, or the Coalition, in Afghanistan. The ones who made a “killing” (pun intended) were the weapons manufacturers.

Note that there is also a very lengthy Wikipedia site devoted to wars involving Russia, & a much shorter one for Thailand.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars_involving_Russia

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars_involving_Thailand

I cannot see the point of the Russian visit, who will “engage in joint naval exercises with other Indo-Pacific forces, focusing on enhancing regional security and strengthening maritime partnerships” in an endeavour to emphasize “the importance of maritime security and regional stability” when they are doing nothing of the kind in their Russo-Ukrainian War.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russo-Ukrainian_War

It would seem to be a perfect example of hypocrisy at the international level.

  8. Wow - a lot of misinformation in this thread. People should really check facts before showing how misinformed they are

    > The UVF are anti-IRA & were formed to keep Northern Ireland as part of the United Kingdom.

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulster_Volunteer_Force

    > The UVF were rather indiscriminate in their actions

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_Ulster_Volunteer_Force_actions

    > The Shankill Butchers also had a similar reputation

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shankill_Butchers

    > As did the Red Hand Commandos

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Hand_Commando

    > Northern Ireland is considered part of the United Kingdom & they are entitled to travel under a British Passport - as are many former colonies - as there are different types of British nationality & different types of British passports to match

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_passport

         Also see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Ireland

    > I presume he did his time for the crimes he was convicted of, & being a suspect in other crimes does not make him guilty of those crimes. So he is a free man - whether or not he is a good or bad man is another question we cannot answer based on the article.

    > Finally, who cares how old they are?

  9. Of course I know that. I didn't say the US invaded North America. However I should have said the British, French, Spanish etc. invaded North America as the US didn't exist until later. My mistake for your misunderstanding. But then there are plenty of other colonial powers throughout history. The Right of Conquest is how the invading countries justify pillaging other countries.

  10. It would be preferrable to read this before further comments on the Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel at the Christ the Good Shepherd Church.

    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-04-16/who-is-bishop-mar-mari-emmanuel-wakeley-church-attack/103728808

The service was being live streamed - hence the immediate response of people rushing to the church. However, the numbers in the news.com.au appear to be exaggerated. Also there were women & youths there as well, but the males were the main violent attackers.

    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-04-16/violent-attack-crowd-sydney-church-stabbing-terrorist-incident/103728308

What is sad is that it gives fuel to anti-arab/muslim groups in Australia & around the world.
