Just today as i was walking down the street and out of nowhere i was surrounded by 3 officers, asked me for my passport and did a body search , unfortunately i told them that i left my passport back at my apartmernt (why would i carry my passport with me it suppose to be a grace period) , they attempted to arrest me and take me to the police station , i told them (with my poor thai) that my house is near by , luckily they were considerate enough to come with me to my apartment to check my passport which i showed them , my question is even if they arrested me what they gonna charge me with ? we are suppose to be in a grace period right.

Thanks for the report.
It confirms that for short-term Visa holders the Embassy provided statement of inability to re-enter home-country, will provide a 30-day extension of stay starting on 27 September (as mentioned in the InfoGraphic).
It still subject for approval though.... there is a possibility i can be denied

But you sitting in your home typing on a keyboard - working on a system thousands of miles away via a secure data-connection, with your income being paid into an overseas bank-account?
will it be a problem if the income paid into a thai bank account?

I'm in the same situation, I asked CMU in Chiang Mai and they said yes you could apply in country. Today was the deadline but I guess that is extended now.
then i guess our best bet is to apply before the borders are opened

Apply for an extension anytime between 01/08 - 26/09 or leave. Is that basically it ?
Well im basically looking to extend my ED visa which expired during the amnesty ... they usually ask me to leave apply in a thai consulate and come back .... hope they just extend it locally now.

Its a worrying development if this spreads and becomes the norm.
well its already happening .... just got a message from my friends ... we usually go hiking together ...they told me now national parks and vendors are requesting foreigners for residency before entry so now i have to take my passport with me whenever we go on for a trip.....

Funny thing is just coz you are covid free today , it doesnt mean you are covid free tomorrow , so all this nonsesnse means s*** , still i could spread the virus after moving in.

Sounds like a hassle, but I guess owners are paranoid about people walking around inside, touching things, maybe use the toilet.
Anyway, I guess if you really/seriously interested in the place go get tested then negotiate a lower rent to make up the fee.
Otherwise, find something else 1000's of rentals out there.
They were not requesting a certificate for me to move in , they were asking for it so i can check it .....i aint gonna spend thousands of bahts just to do that .... especially in a country which is supposedly 50+ days virus free and incoming flights are banned. just sounded ridiculous....plus what if my friends are coming to visit .. are they gonna have to prove they are virus free as well before they get in?

It is a shame where regulations that were and still in place never took into account that people cannot travel out, get a visa, and travel back.
I think that although frustrating and no direction or solution is available. You must seek advice and plead with the University the unfounded situation you are currently in. As I cannot see the immigration changing any rules quickly or for individual claims.
I just hope you find a solution. But dont give up. Keep going..
thank you for the soldiraty and support , i really hope too as well as i already paid into the program , and this visa rules doesnt make sense at all , i remember when i was doing my studies in turkey , i see students changing from program to another and sometimes from one university to another, some even remain for 5-10 years on program that lasts 4 years without having anyone asking them to leave the country and reapply for a visa .

Since the amnesty was in effect when your previous extension based upon attending school expired while on the the amnesty technically it is still valid. As I wrote before the university should contact immigration to get info since the are the ones that are supporting your application.
Apparently the embassy in Cairo is responsible for Sudan. The honorary consulate in Khartoum is shown on their webpage here.
http://www.thaiembassy.org/cairo/en/organize/46045-Royal-Thai-Consulate,Khartoum-and-Djibouti.html The consulate should be able to assitst with the application for non-ed visa application.
But even if i decided to go out of thailand just to get a visa it doesnt make sense .... i have to qurantine in my home country ... and if im able to get the visa and supposedly im able to return to thailand (which is highly unlikely) ... i have to quarantine on my own expenses as well not to mention the plane ticket prices ....is the immigration law that rigid they dont consider that it doesnt make sense ?....my university is not offering much help , they just say we dont know we havent come across something like this before.... so im taking the documents and going to CW myself to inquire.

If you will attending the same university you you be able to apply for a new extension at immigration. Ask the university to check with immigration about it.
Sudan is on the list of countries whose citizens can only apply for a visa in their home country. In your case you have to apply at the designated embassy that is responsible for Sudan.
The embassy in Kuala Lumpur might accept your application for a non-ed visa but you would have to wait 4 weeks for the application to be approved. See the note at the bottom the page here.
http://www.thaiembassy.org/kualalumpur/contents/images/text_editor/files/listed country 2018_2.pdf
But Malaysia is closed for all entries until August 31st.
Yes, is a different program in the same university , so you are saying in this case i can just extend the same visa i was issued originally correct ? ... if thats the case whats the procedure ?
i dont think there is a designated embassy responsible for sudan because there is an office there already but its only able to issue tourist visa not ED visa.
-
Im a sudanese student in one of the universities here in Bangkok , i arrived to bkk mid 2019 , my ED visa expired during the visa amnesty period , i got accepted into a new program in the same university , now my country's borders are closed , neighboring countries borders are closed , so getting out of the country to get a new ED visa is out of the question , (besides there is no thai embassy to in my country to apply to) , i want to know is it possible to extend my expired visa locally at immigration without leaving the country, or atleast can go to one of the neighboring countries thai consulates and get the visa from there , some said since you are not a European or an American is not possible , the only country i can get to without a visa is Malaysia , i contacted the thai embassy there and they told me i have to be a resident of Malaysia in order to apply for an ED visa to thailand.
(i asked a similar question like this before but the discussion drifted to thai language school which is different than my situation)

I guess my embassy can provide a ltter since the borders of my country is shut

Really, what is ignorant? You say that the police should operate based on intelligence and information. That´s exactly what they did here.
Intelligence over many year is confirming that black people have been caught with drugs and for drug offences more than white people in Thailand. That´s why they are more suspicious. That´s not something the Thai police have created out of nothing. That´s intelligence and good police work.
Information. Yes, they got information about suspicious behaviour and acted on it.
It was correct. He was guilty of overstay of 881 days. How do you get away from that? If you are black, you might be a good guy, but that is not a reason for not understanding why.You have no idea what the terms "information" and "intelligence" is about , why do you think every police department have a detective and investigation unit ? , why do you think they employ "spies" on the ground, why do you think they have the right to tap your phone ? ....so you can just be lazy ?... if they wanna be more suspicious of people of darker skin (which sounds funny) they can by increasing their surveillance or focus but thats not how they do it .....the way they do it is they just see a random black person walking down the street and among all other people they arrest him and search him just coz he has a darker skin ....by doing it this way you let alot of actual criminals off the hook you are wasting recourses and sending the wrong message to the public ... the pattern you are talking about is it based on nationality or skin color ? ... i got police officers after arresting me admitting that they got problems with Nigerians ..i told him but i already proved to you im not a Nigerian but still the chose to arrest me ... so the pattern they have is people of that nationality ...but they choose the skin color rout coz its easier to detect...with no regards to the innocent victims they suffer and the toxic environment they create because of this.

Not at all. This guy managed to demonize himself by overstaying 881 days. If he was not on overstay, you would never have been reading this in the news.
Yep, and there is a reason for that. You can thank all your friends in Sukhumvit for that. ????
There is a good saying for all this. There is no smoke without a fire.Wow , that is such an ignorant statement , police should operate based on intelligence and information , not based on appearance , seems to me you are for racial profiling .

Right. Of the dark-skinned expat friends that I have, none are criminals, but they all get treated like that in Thailand. And you listen to some of these other white expats and they don't believe that dark-skinned expats are treated differently. They're blind to the truth. Or they assume that dark-skinned people *deserve* to be treated differently, as if they're more likely to be criminals. Sure, there are some African people in Thailand doing criminal activity, but there are also plenty of Caucasian expats doing the same. On overstay. Doing / selling drugs. Even murdering people and getting away with it like that Norwegian who choked an Indian-Brit to death on Phuket and was allowed to leave the police station and the country. Think he would have been allowed to do that if he were a Nigerian or even an African-American???
At first when i first came to thailand subconsciously i did believe the narrative that black people are responsible for most of the drug trafficking in thailand , so i didnt really blamed the police for being so suspicious towards me , but the longer i stayed in thailand the more i found that was further than the truth , many white people and asians involve in numereous crimes including drug traficing and even murder , but it seems to me there is a tendency to negatively stereotype black people more than other races.
