He was clueless as Pattaya's mayor and just as clueless now.  The last thing Thailand needs right now is scheduling more holidays right after two months of forced holidays.  Rich and clueless to what normal Thais are going through.

Not that clueless. Made millions during his time as mayor. He and his family own large chunks of the entertainment industry in Pattaya, which has been leaking cash of late. He's trying to give a boost to tourism in Pattaya to recoup a bit of that cash.

He knows full well what normal Thais are going through, he just doesn't give a monkeys.

Really, the 10's of thousands that work in the industrial estate my place of work did not go anywhere other than to work, I noticed similar in other industrial estates that ive visited as well and I suspect that is/was a common theme amongst the other hundreds of industrial estate scatted around Bangkok and the Eastern sea board.

Not everyone works in the tourism industry and got stood down from work.

Sister in Law and her husband work in a factory in Bowin. The're back in the village now. many thousands of manual workers have been laid off.

Why should the Thai people get over it and move on ?

Not all enjoy having 4 to 5 weeks annual leave (10 days is typical for the average worker) per year and factor in Public Holiday's to travel home to spend time with family and friends.

Most of them have been back in the village for the last 2 months.

Many celebrated songkran on April 13th 14th and 15th.

We had the traditional ceremony on the drive with family and friends. Flower petals sprinkled, feet washed and water sprinkled on heads. Then we had a hosepipe fight with neighbours followed by kids charging round the street with their supersoakers. Who says songkran was cancelled?

Won't be doing it again until next year.

Both valid arguments Brittim and Drjack. I would imagine there are quite a few here on non o multis that will need to exit either to get a further 90 days or apply for a new visa. And quite a few will not meet the requirements for a 1 year extension.

A Thai/French couple I know come here every winter on a Non "O", Flew back to France today. Always an option.

Vietnam in July probably will ask foreigners to be tested conoid 19 negative to be allowed into the country.  I am guessing they will not ask tourists to be isolated with 14 days at a hotel.  If they do, hardly any will go.

The current instant tests that are available are highly unreliable. If they were given the approved test it could take days for the results. Where would they stay in the meantime?

I ask myself why are people so worried about being able to drink? since you can buy drink it must be you need to drink with others?  the way most of you talk there is no life without the beer bars.  is watching life go by from the beer patio  all you have to live for? and having however friendly interactions with much younger women who only value you because you have thick wallets.

I know I would be sad living in a condo with no garden to tend, no access to my hobbies,  or workshop.   without bats as md other drunks many of you  have no life.  I can imagine QR codes scare you.   maybe the definition of bad out good in will change in the future.

Living in a condo? beer patio? QR codes?

You're clueless mate, you really are. Ever been to Thailand?

What does the new smoking law say?

Smoking is already prohibited inside many venues and on public transport. The key point from the new law is that smoking is banned if it is directly outside various public buildings. There is now a 5-metre ‘exclusion zone’ outside public entrances and exits where it is illegal to smoke. More than 80 types of buildings and venues are covered under the new smoking law which includes:

    • airports
    • amusement parks and water parks
    • banks/cash machines/ATMs
    • cinemas and other entertainment venues
    • condos, apartments & rental buildings
    • fitness parks and gyms
    • government offices
    • hospitals and clinics
    • hotels
    • grocery stores
    • libraries
    • laundries
    • massage and spa venues
    • public parking areas
    • pubs
    • religious buildings
    • restaurants
    • schools and nurseries
    • shopping malls
    • swimming pools
    • toilets (public toilets)
    • various transportation areas including bus stops, piers and taxi/mini-van stands

Its been out for quite a while now. Nobody takes a blind bit of notice of it.

But have you heard ???? when the bars reopen they won’t just be instituting separation, QR code’s and face masks, but a dress code.

That may be good for the ladyboy bars but the others ..... shall wait and see.

What is your problem? Did you go to the Trump school of "How to win friends and influence people"?

I hope you aren't going to turn into some kind of stalker. Mods take a dim view of stalkers, but I reckon you know that already.

‘Nice to here there is some life appearing. But the smell is coming off the beach I bet. After all that pollutant flowing into the ocean recently. That which you are smelling, good chance it’s not change ????????

I live a few miles from the beach. wasn't pollutant, it was detritus washed out of the storm drains after a big thunderstorm. Happens regularly.

You're going to fit in well in this forum.

Though a lot of restaurants can open, I have seen a lot that have stayed shut. A lot of not just restaurants but bars rely on annual 30 million tourists that visit every year. At a guess, a lot of bars would not reopen until the return of the tourists. Would the small expat community be able to keep the bars afloat? Will the bars have the custom to pay staff? Least alcohol is still available for those that like a tipple. For that we can be thankful.

Just had a tour round the Darkside, Pattaya.  2 restaurants closed days a go were open. A third restaurant that I went in, serving beer in coffee mugs. BJ bar around the corner from me which has had no signs of life since mid March had all the girls outside, eating food.

I smell the wind of change......

Source: Worldometer snapshot at exactly this moment, from https://www.worldometers.info

Let's start with the highest numbers, and do something to reduce them.

We can do something about Covid now. Do you think 377,000 deaths is insignificant?

The figures for covid are for the last 3 months. If we do nothing the numbers will rise exponentially. Check out the figures for Spanish Flu in 1918.
