Strange, I am 77 and have been flying internationally for over 50 years and ever since I began flying on these flights, it has always been recommended that althought not required to buckle up during the flight, one should do so anyway.  I always taught my family that from their first and last flights.  Guess folks just too lazy or ignorant of what can happen.  Over the recent past even, numerous flights have experienced turbulence and injuries and even deaths have occurred and media has reported this.  Just saying, RIP to the two Singaporean passengers and hope the remaining 58 in the hospital recover completely.

just like a car always buckle up, I'm the same i have told me wife and daughter from day 1 always have seatbelt on no matter what its amazing how many people leave themselves un buckled

In a controversial move, the Peruvian government has officially classified trans and intersex people as "mentally ill," sparking outrage in a society already grappling with challenges to gender and LGBT rights. The health ministry defended the decree, citing the need to ensure comprehensive mental health care coverage, but critics argue that it perpetuates discrimination and opens the door to harmful practices like conversion therapy.

The decision comes amidst a backdrop of sustained assaults on gender and LGBT rights in Peru. Recent legislative actions, such as banning references to gender equality from school textbooks, have exacerbated the situation, undermining efforts to address domestic violence and femicides. The move to label trans and intersex individuals as mentally ill further entrenches societal prejudices and discrimination against the LGBT community.

Health Minister César Vásquez has refrained from addressing the controversy, instead focusing on defending President Dina Boluarte, who herself faces scrutiny over unexplained acquisitions of expensive jewelry and allegations of corruption within her administration. The president's attempts to deflect attention from these issues by dismantling anti-corruption units and suppressing poverty statistics have only fueled public outrage.

Medical researcher Percy Mayta-Tristán highlights the potential dangers of the decree, particularly in a conservative society where LGBT rights are non-existent and where labeling individuals as mentally ill can facilitate harmful practices like conversion therapy. The lack of sensitivity to complex LGBT issues underscores the need for greater awareness and advocacy for the rights of marginalized communities.

President Boluarte, who assumed office after her predecessor's controversial attempt to dissolve congress, has faced criticism for her administration's alignment with a congress characterized by deep social conservatism. Despite diverse ideological affiliations, members of congress have united in pushing counter-reforms that undermine environmental protections and perpetuate illegal activities such as mining, logging, and drug trafficking.

The legacy of intolerance toward the LGBT community is further reflected in the remarks of former Prime Minister Guido Bellido, who praised Fidel Castro for excluding gay individuals from the Cuban revolution. Such attitudes underscore the entrenched societal prejudices that continue to marginalize and endanger vulnerable populations in Peru.

"The Damage Done" was a decent read, but once you've read one of these 'locked up in Thailand' stories you've read them all.

Smuggling drugs in Thailand has to be one of the dumbest things you can do (but not quite as dumb as smuggling drugs in Indonesia).

fully agree damage done was my first read before my first trip to Thailand in 1990, makes you aware of the dangers in dealing with drugs in Asia didnt and never went anywhere near that gear.

BANGKOK (NNT) - Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT) remains hopeful that by next year, Suvarnabhumi Airport will be among the world's top 50 airports. Consistent improvements to the airport's facilities and services over the last ten years have boosted its global rank from 68th in 2023 to 58th in 2024, according to the Skytrax World's Best Airports ranking.

AOT Director Kerati Kijmanawat notes that a significant contribution to this upgrade is the opening of the Midfield Satellite 1 terminal in September 2023. The new terminal boosted the airport's ability to handle annual passenger traffic to 60 million from the previous 45 million.

Kerati states that over the past year, efforts have concentrated on improving passenger services and trimming the waiting time at immigration and luggage checkpoints. To help achieve this, there are plans to roll out 80 "Auto Gate" kiosks in August. These kiosks use facial recognition technology to speed up the immigration process.

AOT also plans to increase the immigration officers' strength by nearly 200 and introduce CT scanners capable of detecting liquids in carry-on bags. This addition will increase the efficiency of security checkpoints. Further, the agency has urged airlines to open check-in counters at least four hours before departure to reduce the congestion in the departure lounge.

They need to sort out the AC issues, whoever was awarded the tender for that underestimated it.

Its a horrible airport for bars and restaurants its all just little pokey things scattered around the place, there are no big enclosed decent bars anywhere they do have decent lounges but for general travelers its not the best, in my view the airport doesn't deserve any high ranking.

A British woman and her Thai spouse are seeking justice following an allegation of assault in their Bangkok condominium. The woman claims her confrontation with a security guard resulted in significant mental health issues. However, CCTV footage suggests she initiated the physical exchange.

Boon-ek Wongsuriyawattana, the Thai husband, and his British wife, Ayesa, recently sought help from the Foundation Campaigning to Reclaim Social Justice (CRSJ). The couple alleges the 27-year-old security guard, Mohammad Ayan, physically assaulted Ayesa in their Chong Nonsi luxury condominium in the early morning of December 12, 2021. After the incident, they left the condo due to Ayesa's deteriorating mental state.

Boon-ek recounts that his wife woke the sleeping security guard to ask about his whereabouts. After a brief argument, she turned to leave, and the guard reportedly punched her, resulting in facial fractures and bruising. Reports say the assault caused Ayesa to develop depression and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, leading her to isolate herself and refuse medical treatment, which worsened her injuries.

The couple has recently filed a complaint at Bang Pong Pang Police Station, resulting in an arrest warrant for Mohammad. However, he has not yet been apprehended. They also revealed that Mohammad's security license was fake and that his employers have not cooperated with the investigation. The CRSJ Foundation has pledged to help the couple.

Nevertheless, a CCTV clip on social media appears to show Ayesa initiating the attack before Mohammad retaliated. The public reaction suggests the guard should have remained calm rather than fighting back. The security company and Mohammad himself have not offered any further clarification.

Police are searching for the gunman who shot dead a 10 year old girl on a palm plantation in the southern province of Krabi. The girl’s family believes the shooting was motivated by a dispute over land concessions.

The fatal shooting took place in a palm plantation in the Khao Panom district of Krabi at about 8pm on Wednesday, April 17. The deceased, 10 year old Neeranuch “Mai” Narkwong, was shot in the back of her neck and died upon arrival at the hospital.

Mai’s aunt told ThaiRath that five children, including Mai, were playing together outside a hut on the palm plantation when the incident occurred. The aunt said she heard several gunshots and saw Mai collapse. She rushed to carry Mai while other children crouched on the ground in fear.

According to the aunt, the gunman committed the crime alone and fled the scene on foot, as she did not hear the sound of a motorcycle or car engine. She was unable to determine the direction in which the perpetrator had gone.

The aunt further explained that Mai and her parents had moved into the hut six to seven months prior. The land on which they resided belonged to the Royal Forest Department, and Mai’s family held a concession to operate a palm plantation.

As the concession was nearing expiration, Mai’s family faced the prospect of losing their livelihood. Consequently, they remained on the plantation, hoping to appeal to officials to renew their concession.

Mai’s family was not the sole local community in need of the land. Others also sought the concession, leading Mai’s family to believe that this could have been the motive behind the shooting.

Khao Panom Police Station officers investigated the shooting scene and found nine bullet holes on a cottage wall.

Police estimated that the gunman was approximately 10 to 15 metres away from the cottage when firing the shots. However, they had not yet uncovered any substantial evidence to ascertain the identity of the gunman.

Officers surmised that the perpetrator did not have lethal intentions and merely sought to intimidate Mai’s family. Police announced their intention to summon Mai’s parents and relatives for questioning at a later time.
