in the late 90s, I heard it was 250,000 THB per month, back then it was a lot of money

It was a lot of money and 250k per month was correct so i believe however the Asian crisis USD was 50+ baht to the dollar and the TQ was at its peak, Pattaya was at its peak awesome time to be in Thailand , they would have made 250k for rental real quick

My first experience with the TQ was in Angeles City in the late 90s. Even bought the T-shirt. Later went to the Pattaya TQ. Nothing beats that time in the TQ in Angeles though.

yes i had gone there but had nothing to do the pattaya TQ

I was having a Margarita with Father Ray (now resting in heaven ) at the Pattaya Orphanage a while ago now.

He was telling of the time they used to row out into the bay and fish. The water was so clear you could see the sandy sea bottom. This is only going back 20 odd years, so 30 years ago ...

No it was not, the water in pattaya bay got destroyed when big hotels started popping up in the 1980s

I would buy a bar here tomorrow, if I got the alcohol for free from the supplier.  ????

There is also a compounding factor.  On day 1 of a 30 month, say there is only 6 guys in the bar drinking 2 beers per hour for the first 4 hours of trading.  For the second 4 hours of trading, you need 18 guys in the bar, drinking 2 beers per hour, for the last 4 hours, in order to keep up with your figures.  However, the bar only sits 12.

So,  for every hour, of every day, of every, week, for the month, you don't have 12 guys in in the bar, for 8 hours, drinking 2 beers per hour, you are losing, because in order to meet sales targets towards the end of the month, you may need 100 guys in the bar, for 8 hours, drinking 2 beers per hour, but that's not going to happen when your establishment can only sit 12 customers.

Then, out of what is made at the end of the month, after all other expenses have been deducted, the purchase price of the bar, plus key money, for the duration of the lease, has to be accounted for in each month's profit, if there is a profit.

Many of these bars are just expensive hobbies.

no point in tying to work out how to make a profit, unless you own the property and dont pay rent thats the only way you will make any sort of living out from running a bar

On my way to Tesco this morning I thought I would drop by my local Amphur office to apply for a yellow book. I took my blue book, passport, deeds of my condo etc and, following posts I have read here, thought it would be a simple matter.

Three local govt. officers scrutinised my papers. I have lived here for most of the years out of the previous fourteen since I bought my condo and have a current extension to my non-immigrant O visa (for retirement),

I was told that I needed to go to my embassy (British, in my case) and have copies of my passport verified and then translated into Thai. Then I should need to bring two Thai witnesses to sign various documents.

Have others had this experience or a different one?

    Best regards.

did not have to have certified copies of passport or translated, my wife done the whole lot with 2 of her relatives involved it was a huge run around but she got it in the end, for what its worth i wouldn't bother i told her that but she was adamant i got it

The system creates this dehumanization.   Like in America, people come in illegally, work for nothing, abused, raped, killed, and it's because the system won't allow them to come in any other way.  The system calls them "illegals" for a reason, to make them less of a human.  You want to change things?  Bring them in legally, pay them properly, and get them all the necessary paperwork. Why not?  money is made and they have leverage over these workers if they step out of line.  Power and money....that's not going away soon.

What i dont get is why are migrants coming to work in Thailand, with Thai people starving surely Thais must be able to do anything, any job to make ends meet

Don't test the wider population, can't report positives.

No autopsies performed on the elderly who die, can't report positives.

Report people who die from respiratory illness as having died from viral pneumonia.

While it might seem as Thailand has done a good job of managing covid the figures which are reported are grossly understated (same as deaths on roads, only report people who are dead at the scene). This is a function of all authoritarian 'governments'.

    other countrys should follow suit

I was riding my PCX down soi buakhao the other day, stuck behind a slow-moving baht bus, as I waited slowly riding I heard one of those annoying loud scooters behind so I passed the baht bus swiftly pulling over to the left to allow the Thai rider to pass. To my amazement, it was middle aged, bald, westerner riding his blinged-up Aerox with his family (wife and child) onboard, none wearing a helmet...... you'd reckon he'd be riding in a safe manner with his family as pillion. I had to laugh as he passed as I thought it was one of the funniest/silliest things I've seen for quite some time.
Seriously, this was not a funny sight, why is it that there seems to be so many middle-aged western guys not wearing helmets, sadly many elderly/geriatric men are also not wearing helmets.
We see the Thais not wearing helmets, the Thais have not had the education we westerners have been given, I can only assume all of those westerners not wearing helmets have no education.

Maybe been in Thailand that long he thinks he is a local, i would say he would have clocked up some fines over time if he is always doing this
