This is absolutely brilliant. They destroyed the economy by shutting it down, now they want to allow Chinese visitors back in. Of course they believe Chinese statistics on the infection rate there. Nevermind that no one else in the world believes the nonsense the Chinese come out with, but the PM of Thailand does.

Yes, let them all in and start all over again. Let's get the 2nd, 3rd and 4th waves underway asap. Then we can stay on strict lockdown for another year or so.

Don't worry - the worse, the better. Thailand will harm itself even quicker. Why do you care?

Well, I doubt you could walk into a US bank as a Russian and open an account.

You may doubt whatever you want.

Not only can I do that in the US with no problem. I can do that in the countries where a US citizen would be turned around, because of FATCA.

And actually many Thai banks now require a work permit, apartment rental agreement, and other documents prior to opening an account.

    My question isn't about requirements.

  3. The rules of the banking system of Cambodia haven't been revised in decades. I'm russian. They won't permit me to open an account, in Abba and Canadia, because "lasha hai lis". High risk country.  As well as Cuba, Iran, North Korea and some others. Yes, 20-30 years ago I wouldn't been sirprised if russia had been one the list. But now? Given the fact that Cambodia itself is a 3rd world corrupted country.

In other banks in Cambodia -- I don't know, possibly the same thing. In other countries that allow to open a bank account to most foreigners I've not had any problem being russian.

Therefore, it's the thing of Cambodia.

Abba would open me an account, they said, if I had a job here and in addition would provide them with some documents and I swear I'm a nice guy. Yet, a limited account. Those documents aren't needed for other nations.

Is there a workaround? Are there other banks that have less of scrutiny?

According to news.bitcoin.com Thailand had approved 4 cryptocurrencies.

But you may have issues with transferring funds in a Thai account without identifying and intent paperwork if the amount in any year is greater than $10k. Something about requirements of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, B.E. 2542 (1999) (AMLA). Per wikipedia: "As of 30 September 2016, the AMLO had custody of seized and/or frozen assets valued at 6,176,029,774.12 baht."

None of your statements addresses my question

  5. I'll need to be sending btc to my thai bank account. Is there a thai exchange which doesn't have crazy KYC rules? I'm ok with providing them with my passport at most. But address, resydency certificate, will be an issue.

Is there an exchange that doesn't require an official proof of address and still allows withdrawing money to a thai bank account?

If this is relevant - I keep my btc at my wallet locally at my computer, not at some exchange. The only reason  I need an exchange is to a) send my btc to that exchange b) withdraw btc to fiat to my thai account.

    ---

Even better - are there BTC ATMs in Thailand? Then I'd not need an exchange and proof of my address.
