It isn't starving yourself at all if you have successfully switched to fat burning mode during the fast periods.

Fat burning happens when you don't get enough calories to maintain body weight.

Even on keto, if you consume more calories than you need -- you ain't burning ANY body fat.

What you just said makes no sense. So, you aren't starving yourself, even though you are "fasting" lol?

But you think watching calories is starving oneself?

And the whole "starving yourself" is a silly way to put it. People really don't need 3 square meals and 2 snacks anything which you already know cos you do IF.

How is burning into fat on IF or keto any different from burning into fat when reducing energy intake?

Wrong. It's the way of failure. People can and do lose weight that way but over 99 percent regain the weight and more. Why is that? The metabolism is reset to burn fewer calories and it never recovers. Almost nobody can starve themselves for the rest of their lives.

There are ways around this but they have nothing to do with calorie counting.

Namely -- intermittent fasting. Nothing to do with calorie counting.

You don't need to starve yourself for the rest of your life.

When you are happy with your weight you eat enough calories to maintain that weight.  Simple.

Example, to maintain my current weight I need to eat 2600 calories, but I am overweight, so obviously that is too much. So, now I am eating significantly less, aiming at 1700 with exercise, 1500 without exercise.

Once I get to a healthy weight, I will just eat enough to maintain it (which will still be like 2200 a day). How is that starving yourself?

And for the record, I like intermittent fasting and have done it before. The cellular repair aspect fascinates me and I would like to get back into it for that.

BUT intermittent fasting is literally starving yourself (more so that calorie counting anyway)

Some amount of rubbish on this thread.

As some have said : it is "calories in Vs calories out"

    It is the only way.

Those saying fasting. How does it make you lose weight? Well, if you only have a short eating window....you are likely to also be in a calorie deficit. Try eating 2500 in one go. Intermittent fasting naturally cuts out a meal, therefore helping with eating less calories.

To those who say running. What do you think you are doing? You are burning off calories, right?

To those who say keto. You are still creating a calorie deficit cos you are cutting out a whole macro nutrient. Try eating 2500 calories of meat and lettuce a day. And also high protein is satiating so you eat less. Calorie deficit.

To the raw veggie crowd. Same. You can fill your entire stomach on 400 calories of vegetables.

All these fad diets do is......help create a calorie deficit. No magic.

Yes, there are other benefits like cellular repair, lower blood sugar, lower cholesterol, healthy gut, lower blood pressure etc etc (depending on which of these diets you choose), but from a weight loss point of view, these fad diets only work by creating a calorie deficit.

And to the lifters, it is the same. The more muscle you build the more calories you burn in a rested state.

Calories in Vs calories out baby.

    And to give an example:

Yesterday was my cheat day so I ate whatever I wanted.

    I had:

    Coffee with milk

Papaya salad, sticky rice, a few grilled chicken wings

A couple of beers, a handful of crisps, and a stick of chocolate, half a 7eleven sandwich too.

    About 1500 calories, total.

I woke up today. On the scales. Weight loss (as usual).

I still maintained a calorie deficit so I am not really "cheating", but it is my cheat day cos I just eat whatever my taste buds want while still counting calories.

Every other day I try to eat healthy for the sake of disease prevention.

My calories end up the same anyway, so from a weight loss point of view it makes no difference, but usually I eat foods with health in mind (oats, fruit, veggies, lentils, nuts, seeds, some meat, some carbs, some dairy maybe).

In general I think it is best to eat low(er) calorie foods that fill you up for a while (foods with high water content, fiber content, or protein).

If his situation was so precarious, why on Earth did he burn through the 60.000 baht loan he was granted in just three months? His girlfriend obviously has the money to take care of rent and her own needs, so why did he spend 20 000 baht a month? He could easily have made that money last for twice as long or even longer.

    "His girlfriend obviously has....."

    Good joke.

    "so, why did he spend....."

Cos, it is apparently the man's job to pay for most things.

There will be a massive effort to 'repurpose' massage parlors into 'massage shops'. Spurt !!

What ya talking about.  They already are.

There is scarcely a massage place in this country that ain't doing rub n tugs upstairs (and the rest).

They may look like traditional places and someone may be getting foot reflexology downstairs, but upstairs (or over the other side of the curtain) a couple are playing a game of "hold the moan" (at least) half naked.

Don't be fooled if they don't look "the type"

Just watched it: Excellent video.  The scenes of Washington Sq. and Queen's Park reminded me of how we never really appreciate how unique and special such places are until they're gone.

Was that the inside of "Cactus" at "14:00"?  What a combo: great food, totally uninhibited ladies.  Sadly; John just reported that one of the long time girls was recently murdered by her husband.

How did ten years go by so quickly.

    True.

You really feel like you are drinking in Thailand in those places. They have a certain essence.

One day, all we will have left is the Irish and American themed pubs. And when the hipsters come here, I am moving back to Isaan.

However, all these old pubs need to do is get a keg and sell pints for 99 baht like all the newer pubs, instead of continuing to serve small bottles at 120 - otherwise they are gonna go out of business regardless of location.

Very nice soi actually......dead end so traffic is limited.....few girly bars, first one on the right is quite good (called 'Today'), second moo down on the right there is Lolitas......and quite a nice range of bistro type bars....

I was down on Soi 8 tonight.

A few places open serving food. Everyone drinking out of the same suspicious looking cups. Like metal tankards.

Nice atmosphere. Relaxing music, lighting good. Chilled vibe. A few of those restaurant/bistro places have had a makeover. Had a upmarket feel on the soi.

I, however, went to the aforementioned Today@Soi8 bar where they were drinking from paper cups.

I ACTUALLY recall going there months ago when it was like 80-90 a bottle-draught.

Now it is 125, bottle, no draught. Pretty cheeky price hike, but hey, where else can you drink now?

Anyway, the police showed up and everyone had to move inside and close the curtains. It was crowded inside cos there were a fair few sitting outside.

We were like a bunch of scared, white, sardines holding paper cups of cheap beer with a few heavily tattooed handy-looking birds saying, "Mai pen rai"

I guess you are not home schooling a child due to this current lockdown...   My Wife would gladly welcome one day off... Opening schools as soon as possible will make a welcome and significant difference for children and parents alike.

    I am. It is hell.

But still, objectively speaking, a few more weeks of this versus a potentially worse covid situation?

Bizare analogy! if you buy something, you have paid for it by using your capital to generate an income. The 100k A month your spending is not free since that money could be used for reinvesting. It's dead money. at the go go bar or private health care.

    . It's not free lol

What happens if your investment goes pear shaped or are you nieve enough to think it won't

Dead money at the Gogo bar?

    What are you talking about?

You don't see the value in that? Do you want to live your life or what?

Private health insurance, dead money? If you don't have healthcare YOU are dead. Game over.

You know there is value in enjoyment, security etc etc.

Will you tell me my bed is dead money?

Why don't you live under a bridge? Go and sleep on concrete.

  11. The Thais should have known better.

By being noisy, they forced the police to do something.

If they were discreet, even if the police knew they were there, they could have ignored it.

But the obviousness of the party made it so that they couldn't let it go.

A Thai explained it to me once, "No give headache for them, no problem for me"

Like the drinking beer out of a coffee mug. The cops know what is in the cups, but they aren't being forced to take action cos it is discreet enough. But if you make it obvious, well they gotta maintain order.

It has always been thus and always thus shall be.

  12. Just dreaming, but if the lockdown ended tomorrow, what pub crawl would you go on?

    For me, it would be:

    1. Cowboy: Oasis, then Dollhouse.

    (Walk down Sukhumvit)

    2. Nana: The Game, then Lotitas. (I would consider checking out the new and - probably not improved - Queens Park Plaza while down there.)

(Walk the back way to Soi 4, maybe stop off at one of those little bars on that soi)

    3. Soi 4: Hillary's, Chequers, and possibly the Plaza (if not too drunk).

    4. Food. Walk over to Soi Arab for a curry at Al Hussain.

    What about you?

  13. Depends

Does she treat you with respect?

Is she interested in you sexually?

    It is all about context.

If you are being abused or neglected you should just get out of the relationship.

However, if you can't or for some reason don't want to, then the playing field is open. Enjoy.

I mean if you weren't fulfilling her needs (i.e. financial support), she would either just leave or start "looking" (probably on her back with her legs in the air) for a new "partnership" before breaking it off with you.

If you need to ask this question, your relationship isn't worth it. Just leave.

You only live once. Your life ain't a dressed rehearsal.
