Those of us having been here 5 years or longer could be given an easy pathway to permanent residency forgoing all the immigration hoopla we go through 12 monthly and in doing so he will avoid gagging every time he has to say ex-pats are useful and an aid to the economy.

But then he was talking "foreign workers living in Thailand and foreign students studying " not retirees. ????

Foreign students ? Where they come from and what they study in a low educational country like Thailand ?

I think the Thai numbers must be substantially correct.  If the hospitals were clogged with Covid patients we would know.  No one I know in Thailand knows anyone who has been infected with Covid, much less anyone who died of it.  We also know now that wearing masks gives a substantial benefit in restricting the spread of the virus and the Thais have been wearing masks religiously since the outbreak.

For some of the expats here their most deeply held conviction is of the utter inferiority of everything Thai, especially compared to the West.  In fact, the public health system in Thailand is quite good.  Do you think the S. Koreans, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, New Zealanders, Greeks and others are all lying?

Thais have been wearing masks religiously. They always are wearing masks, they call it smile.

All the people who say that no one wants to come to Thailand: in our company we have daily requests, from October onwards!

Yes...it is not the quantity of pre- Covid, but the potential to get at least some decent number of people interested is absolutely there!

But...with this constant yes no mayby no no absolutely not maybe yes- course, this is going nowhere!

As well with the absolutely mindnumbingly stupid 14 days of quaranteen, 100.000 $ coverage insurance and 72 hour- Covid - test!

I wish, some people would just sit down together and come up with a plan!

    ANY PLAN!

...but then I wake up and remember, where I am!

Daily requests, what happens when you inform them about the restrictions/rules, are they still interested ? People is saying nobody wants to come to Thailand with this stupid restrictions you mention your self.

The Policeman not taking bribes can be 100% true. I have been in cars where

bribes ( or, immediate payments for fines ) were offered. The policeman politely

instructed the driver to go to the police station to pay.

As for the death and injury toll - when the Upper Echelon of Thai Folks start being

brought to Justice, perhaps then things can change and locals may start caring about

    rules and laws.

Yes rare but they exist, I had a wheel lock once on the car because of wrong parking. A big paper on the front screen mentioning I had to pay a 500 bht fine. I asked a policeman "hanging" around in the area to settle it for 2 or 300 bht. No way, I had to go to the nearest policestation and pay the fine where the officer in charge gave me a 100 bht discount AND a receipt.

There is so much negativity on TVF that you aren't seeing the big picture. Assuming that this goes ahead, and it likely will, it'll be taken up by thousands and thousands of people. And yes, details will still need to worked out.

I can't speak for Phuket, but on Samui there are approximately 10,000 people who spend the winter on the island; they have money and want to come back. On a personal note, I have had approximately 15 friends from the 'Snowbird' group who have already asked me when and how they can return. How many people spend the winter on Phuket in a normal year?

if you were in Northern Europe, Russia, Canada, etc, wouldn't you want to spend your winter in Thailand? The land of tropical islands, hot chicks, great food, beaches, etc?

    Think it through...

Barring a massive increase in numbers of virus cases in Thailand, this will go ahead and it is a good thing; thousands and thousands of poor Thai people will get an income, businesses will be saved, and hopefully enough people will be able to generate enough income to see them through until next year when a more proper tourist season can occur.

This is a very good thing.

If you were in Northern Europe, Russia, Canada, etc,  ?wouldn't you want to spend your winter in Thailand?

Ever heard about the Carribbean ?

Contact tracing involves ‘everyone being tracked’

Thus: IF this suggestion is to work, it only works if ‘everyone' has an App on their phone which traces their movement.

What will happen - everyone deletes the app from their phone !!!

Ultimately, IF Thailand wants Tourists they have to be treated with far more respect than the current sanctimonious ‘we can’t have them doing that’ suggestions.

The current suggestion imply an upside-down mentality of the decision makers, that tourists are privileged to come to Thailand and not a mentality that Thailand is privilege to receive tourists.

A Pre-Flight Covid-19 test (with a negative result) for every visitor to Thailand should be sufficient.

If Thailand doesn’t trust that, test upon arrival should add an additional level of measure - from there on in the TM6 card and TM30 (reported by the hotels) should be sufficient to track any positive cases if necessary.

The objectives ’should’ be to keep the economy moving while maintaining the replication rate of the virus below R1.

Thailands continued attempts at zero domestic cases is killing its own economy.

I have started to doubt the zero domestic cases.
