How do you know she is pregnant? Have you met her earlier?

I must provide our mid-Sept experience in Phuket. I am American; my wife is Thai. We are in Phuket now for 7 nights. We have each called about ten 4 and 5 star hotels. We have received an astronomical rate for one month on each, just in case they had a monthly rate. Additionally, we have been calling various 4 and 5 star hotels for the 7 nights. What we found is 20% off their regular rates. What does “regular” mean?  Would that be like a bookings.com rate or like the sticker price of a new car “regular” rate?  Katathani had the biggest discount we could find. Most 5 star hotels were keeping their prices the same or 10% off but giving free room size upgrades.  I cannot see any real deals from hotels on the verge of collapse.
We did find menu prices in some local Thai restaurants in the tourist areas, that could be bartered beforehand, with as much as 40% off.  (decided to retire so $$)

All of the ocean-view, big hill resorts are closed until October. We are being told that they have already been closed for 5 months now.
We are finding about 25% of the mom-and-pop restaurants are “temporarily closed”. We are uncertain if these would be normally closed anyway in the summer slow season. Perhaps some of you might have some enlightening comments?
All I can say for sure from this experience, is that we have not found any 4 or 5 star hotels offering 35% to 50% discounts..,HOWEVER HOLD ON, there is a Government website that refers you to an app that requires Thai fluency. This site has hotel and restaurants that we are told are participants in a Government Subsidy Program. These deals are nothing short of amazing and I mean worthwhile-mag!  I think we had to enter her Thai Resident card number.

When we flew here from BKK, my wife, who is relatively new to flying, looked at two male Thai Viet Jet flight attendants and in all seriousness said, “Ive seen both men walk to the back. Tell them to get back to the front and fly this airplane!”
I love this country and feel very privileged to be their guest. I am applying for a work permit so I can volunteer as an orthopedic surgeon at a local hospital. It is what I love to do and my small way of giving back.  Now, if I could just get immunity to those darn mosquitos! (scratch-scratch).

  2. Owned by Bangkok Hospital, this is their boutique brand of hospital. Locals call it the rich people’s hotel. Patients dress well inside the Chinatown branch I went to for a facelift. Inside, the facilities are more like a hotel. Cold pack gels are already in the refrigerator, as well as drinks. The sofa is comfortable to sleep on. Nursing is exceptional. I give it 5 stars.

  3. You posted a great question and thank you for others who posted their suggestion of a “get rich scammer” or three. Emotions run high in these situations. No one wants to be dumped. You have a way up in society that her education and financial upbringing would not have. This has changed in most of the urban cities.
Answer:  You go to the pharmacy and buy a urine test strip for pregnancy then agree to meet her. That levels the initial playing ground. Be soft and a gentleman. We’ve all had people break up with us over our lifetime at some point. Remember the scar it left. Try your best to keep her scar as small as possible even if she is a scammer. We will all be there with you as brothers in honor. FYI: the editor took out my last text that I had corrections based my advice on my western medical degree and 25 years of private practice. Unfortunately, that means nothing for my ability to type on an autocorrecting iphone.

  4. I’m so sorry but by the time I finished my edit the time expired.
    1.  Urine and blood (beta HCG laboratory test will prove if she is pregnant). Start with the drug story urine test strip. If positive then insist on the blood test.

You still don’t know if it is yours and you won’t be able to confirm without a DNA test. The DNA test is performed after the child is born or if there is another reason for an amniocentesis, for example to check for birth defects. This is common in western countries.

Though you are not morally or financially responsible until you are provided proof it is yours, an abortion paid bu you is cheaper than putting a child through college. There is no education better than experience.

In practice the BCP is only 91% effective in a population study if added human error is taken into consideration. We all see better results. When taken per instructions and not forgetting then it is 99% effective in many populations. I think this may not be high enough in responsible people because that would mean 1 pregnancy for every 100 times sex. If we have 10 friends and they each had sex 10 times then one of them would get pregnant. We just don’t see it existentially that high.

However, do you trust her to be able to follow the instructions 100% of the time?  Does she have the money to pay for them without being embarrassed to ask you for that money each month?  Are there other reasons why she would not want to take her BCP’s?

if she does give birth to your child then he or she is your responsibility. Most every western countries will allow citizenship for that child with a positive DNA test so you can’t hide. You can be sued in your own country. My final advice is to be careful out there. This is a great society and they allow us to be here as their guests. Yes, there ate emotional scammers in every country. For those women, be very clear of your algorithm for decision making. Pay directly to the hospital for any abortion.  You may want a Beta HCG to chase her off if she is not pregnant. Pay directly to the hospital for any bills at all. When the child is born u can get a DNA test and find out if it is yours. If it is then man-up. If it isn’t then learn and evolve.

  5. I highly disagree with one post, “...her body her choice”.
it takes two to reproduce. “Her body”, “your body”, condom (yes) or not (dumb), JOINTLY RESPONSIBLE.

Yes there are scammers out there but no DNA test (you pay) then no money, even for an abortion.

Thailand, or any place on this planet, can be a place for degenerates to come to thinking they can 2020 live the “hippie” lifestyle of running away from life’s responsibility.

Look, we are guests in a society belonging to polite and socially responsible people who by their mercy, allow us to stay here. Should we contribute to the morality and family safety /family security?  When my father was alive he always said, “Put more i to your society than you take out”. Society has many different sizes that surround you. My intended definition is the people of Thailand as a whole. Dear father, if you can read this, I please forgive me. I am giving this man the opposite of your long-standing advice. If his society here is defined as his relation with a women, just the two of them, then he should take more of his man OUT of his society than he puts IN.

  6. I’m not sure what the question of responsibility vs irresponsibility is here. It is quite black and white.
    1.  Before you give any money she must supply proof. Insist on a joint DNA test. No test no proof equals no money.
    2.  If the test is positive then welcome to the humanitarian and responsible global male half of the planet, you are a father!  Think of your child growing up without a father. Think about the financial struggled they will have. Think about a single mother having to work. Step up to the plate and be a man.

If she could get an abortion then you are responsible for half the bill. Considering the costs of raising a child through college I wonder if it might be easier for you to pay for all of the abortion

i apologize to all if my post is a bit blunt. This isn’t meant to be offensive or tart. My directness is intended to man-up any man who might think about running away from his child like a mouse. The DNA test will simply answer the test of your responsibility vs being played only as a chess piece in her financial game of trying to capture the King.

  7. Where to start?  My experience was 10/10.  I searched a few doctors for a facelift in Thailand.  Two of the channels overlapped, with one of them being Lotus Medical.  I read some forums that the next time patients would just go direct to the doctor and not use an agency such as Lotus Medical.  In my experience, the prices via Lotus’ large negotiating power were superior to direct contact with the surgeon /hospital.

Lotus Medical International (LMI) was professional.  Enquiries were promptly returned.  The provided more than one surgeon for quotes.  They use the same surgeons all the time so that takes the guesswork out of trying to figure out which surgeons to avoid.  I did find that some aesthetic clinics masquerade as plastic surgeons so watch that.  LMI knows who those people are and can steer you away.  Obviously, they make a small bit of commission so it is a win win to use the surgeons they recommend.

My surgery was with Dr. Narupon at Samativej Hospital in Chinatown, Bangkok.  I stayed at the Royal Hotel across the street for about $40 USD per night.  It is a great 4 star hotel.  I’ve paid $300 elsewhere for this level of hotel.

Almost everyone spoke English.  Dr. Narupon was fully bilingual.  I had a someone lead me around from the first second I entered the hospital.  There was someone waiting for me in the lobby.  I can’t say enough about Jam, the International Councilor for Samativej.  She is gentle, knowledgable and knows how to get answers quickly.  Dr. Narupon spent almost 1 hour with me.  He’s a young guy, perhaps 40 years old.  By the time I left his office I had all of the answers I wanted.

I had an EKG, chest xray and blood labs which came to about 3500 baht and was expected.  I did not pay for a gown as someone suggested lol.

I don’t remember much about the surgery because I was sleeping but Dr. N said it lasted about 7 hours.  I had an upper face lift with a brow lift, a lower blepharoplasty, a mid face submuscular lift, a lower face lift with included tightening the sling of muscle under my neck in order to get rid of my turkey neck and provide a strong jaw line.  I paid $5500 USD.  This could be their regular price or a COVID price during lean times so that price may or may not be what you might expect.

Other than a headache, I really didn’t have any pain.  There was Ultracet available if I needed it but really, it was quite mild.  A sprained ankle would probably hurt worse.

The nursing is top notch and beyond what I have seen in the private hospitals back at home in the USA.  This is fully a private boutique hospital and not a government hospital or clinic.  The food was excellent and it came every 2 hours, much more than I could eat.  The provided a menu with many choices.  This wasn’t hospital food, nor was it airline food.  This was really high quality with lots of fresh fruit and lots of those little boxed juice drinks.

I am more than happy with LMI, the hospital, the nursing, the food, Dr. Narupon and the surgery that was performed.  BTW, the same surgery was quoted at triple with ID Hospital and Grand Hospital in Gangnam, Korea.  I learned that many Koreans come to this hospital because of the high quality so why pay more?

Next on my list is to make my nose smaller, liposuction to my fat cheeks, perhaps injecting a bit of that fat into my cheeks, lip filler and one to three treatments of a laser.  If you look at Prime Minister Putin’s plastic surgery you will see the before and after photos, which was my goal.  I think his facelift and skin peeling is about the best I have seen.

This is my review and I approve of this message :)
