  1. I went to Chiang Watanna on Aug 19th to do my 90-Day Report -which was due on the 20th.

At Chiang Watanna (where I have been doing it for the last 12 years, they threw

a faded-out half page of jibberish at me and told me that the 90-Reporting Office

had been moved and the (unreadable) jibberish on the paper was a map to there.

(So small and washed-out it could barely be seen!) ... after much dickering

with the taxi driver, (in Thai,) I finally persuaded him to use his meter.

Th new 90-Day Reporting Office was in a concrete Parking Garage

in back of Impact Arena, in Muang Thong Thani.  I stood in the heat

and waited my turn for about 20 minutes.  I was serviced by a heavy-set

lady that was unresponsive to my attempts of polite civility (-in Thai.)

On the street out in front of the garage were an abundance of Motorcycle taxis

and car taxis.  Since I had already paid the (metered) taxi fare to get there, I had

some idea of what the cost would be.  The motorcycle taxis wanted double that amount and

I couldn't find a car taxi until I persuaded the 5th taxi in line to use his meter.

All in all, it was a very uncomfortable, stressful, time-consuming, expensive afternoon - UNECESSARILY!  :(

How many straight male residents in Pattaya have a male Thai friend, for example? ...

While having a conversation with a Thai Business Lady, She said. "Oh, you've lived here a long time.  Do you have a lot of Thai friends?"  Without hesitation I replied, "Thais can't be friends with farangs - what would all their friends think?"

So it sounds like you actually accomplished five tasks, with the TM30 being the fifth, and that one took two hours.

If you wanted to share any details that would be great.

I'm guessing you did the stamp transfer first? Did you get flagged for the TM30 there, and have to sort that out first. How long did the stamp transfer take? Busy? Any fee for that? And any fine for the TM30?

...Yes, Stamp transfer first - no fee. then, 90 Address Report, (they warned me that they might ask me for 'Residence Verification' -but I didn't know what they were talking about.  While getting the 1-year extension, they informed me (in Thai,) of the required TM 30!

  4. Nope - went to Viet Nam twice last year. Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Both were simply places where it's "give me money, GIVE ME MONEY,... " (More so than in Thailand, Cambodia and Laos!) As a farang, I was only seen as an ATM machine and I was entirely unsuccessful at having an exchange other than a "commercial transaction." I left Hanoi thinking I have no desire to return to Viet Nam.

  5. I've taken that bus for years. Yes, it stops for pick-up or drop-off pretty much anywhere, (although bus-stops are preferred.) There's a buzzer next to the door that tells the driver you want off. I walk down Thonglo from the BTS in front of the first 7-ll and there's one usually waiting there.

(It just recently hiked the price up from 5.5 Baht to 7 Baht! :o )
