  1. It looks like, this topic has been discussed in many thai forums. Thx to jackdd by giving me some hints, I found this picture in a discussion forum from thai people. Well, some signs are truly misleading and some signs do not even make sense or shouldn’t even be there where they stand. Therefor it must come as it has to that people just do what they believe what is correct as my teacher did. There is no bashing behind my question. Just try to learn by understanding.

  2. Eindhoven mentioned points +

the Portable Wifi Hotspot has a few useful functions same as a normal wifi router e.g. MAC blocklists, encryptions etc... which I haven't seen so far on mobile phones. In case you are not always online with your phone, the connectivity use to break and than all the fuzz again. And the most important thing is that the user-interface is so much better than a smartphone.

  3. I absolutely agree that following strictly the rules in Thailand is dangerous and we need to adapt different situations: https://www.chiangmailocator.com/wiki-traffic-rules-in-thailand-and-how-to-avoid-traffic-accidents-p169

But once the critical mass has been reached that people are not following the rules, than no one is safe any longer, because kids and children are just learning wrong habits from their parents which are next generation coming with more cars... faster and bigger.

  4. Well, when I showed my teacher the attached sign with the bike, she still told me to use the shoulder as motorcyclist and even mentioned to use the honk when she is driving a car when motorcyclist do not use the shoulder - so I drove home by using the shoulder, what I have never used before since I'm in Thailand. During the way back home, I though that I will not to survive this trip.

By the way, my speed is between 70 and 100 km/h on the motorway.

  5. Why I came up with this question is: Driving on almost empty roads like in the picture on lane Nbr. 2, some cars came very close on my side and are on my lane while  Nbr. 3 is completely empty like in the picture, as if they want to tell me, it's their lane and I should use the shoulder. This happens at least once a week. For a moment I was unsure about my sanity if signs and rules in Thailand are so much different to the rest of the world.

  6. Thank you for all your replies. I was unsure, if Thai law consider the lane Nbr. 1 as lane in the picture. Therefore I asked my thai teacher and my colleague at school if Nbr. 1 is a shoulder = "emergency lane" and my teacher told me, that in Thailand emergency lanes do not exist. From Thai style point of view, she is probably correct because everyone is using it as lane and I was thinking about if I'm breaking any rules/ laws until now. It's completely insane driving on it - extremely dangerous in every aspect.

  7. Hello

I have a 1 year permit of stay based on marriage now (reason is marriage). Let‘s assume, I would like to switch next year to a permit of stay based on retirement (reason is retirement) and I would fulfill all the criterias. I would like to do that, while I’m in Thailand. Would this be possible? Someone told me, that this is only possible, after I left Thailand and ask for in my home country for a retirement visa.

The reason I‘m asking this question is, because somebody told me, that the retirement visa is so much easier (except the financial criteria) regarding paperwork and home visits. Maybe someone has already experience on that and can also tell about if this is true.

  8. Hi

my brother in law let his 1 year multi entry marriage visa expire but can stay based on an letter of embassy. The letter of the embassy will be very likely issued another few times looking at the situation in Europe. But he is looking for a more longterm solution. As far as I know, he can not ask for an extension of stay based on an expired visa. Is there a solution for his situation?

    thx and best regards

  9. Thank you Ubonjoe, very helpful as always. For the next extension of stay, I will make sure I will be at home (registered address) during the application process. There is another thing I need to do. It's the 90-day-reporting. I tried several times the following link: https://www.immigration.go.th/en/#serviceonline, but it takes ages until something happens and I always get the message, "This site can’t be reached". I tried this at different days and different times and it never works. Did you make other experience?

  10. Hi

I have a 1 year extension of stay based on marriage until end of 2021. I'm living in a small village X and I'm attending a Thai language school in Y because there are no Thai language schools in this tiny village. There is a 5 hours drive by bus back and forth to go to school. Now I'm thinking to rend a condo in Y, where the school is during 5 days a week. At weekend, the village X, where I applied for my visa and where my wife is living. Is there anything I need to consider regarding Immigration in X or Y? Thx for any inputs in advance.

What if you can't show the money in the bank after the consideration time, ie the 400/800k?

You mean the day you come back to the IO and just before they give you the extention stamp, the IO is asking for the prove of the bank statement?

Well, shooting from the hip, I would say that you would still get the extension. The IO didn't mention anything regarding this point and from the requirements they gave me and cross-checked with those from Ubonjoe and with https://www.immigration.go.th/en/?page_id=2771 I can not see any problem.

During the 4 weeks of consideration, a lot of things might happen.... bancrupcy of my bank, getting sick and need that money for the hospital etc... Maybe a senior person might have a more reliable answer on this.
