  1. I recently missed my stop and was late for an important meeting.

The BTS Skytrain normally has audio announcements and also displays the next station in text on the advertising TV screens.

However on this occassion, the next station displayed on the in train TV was incorrect and was showing a station right on the other end of the line. Also there was no audio announcement like there normally is - and I could not see the station signs out of the window due to passenger congestion.

I have used the BTS for years and this is the first time I have missed my stop. Next time I go somewhere new for a meeting on the skytrain I will use Google Maps, but:

    1. Has this ever happened to anyone else here where there is no audio announcement and the next station info on the TV screens is faulty

    2. Is it worth putting in a formal complaint, how far am I likely to get?

    Cheers guys!

  2. Good afternoon fellas,

As I am sure most of us here use LINE, I am hoping someone knows what is going on.

I often call people via LINE voice call, and normally it works great apart from occasional bad signal.

However sometimes when I make a LINE free voice call to someone, I am later told that it never rang.

For me I would be waiting around 15 to 20 seconds for them to pick up and hearing the outgoing ring. However even if they are sitting right next to their phone with the sound on, it just goes immediately to missed call.

I have tried hard to fix this myself and it seems that:

If the other person's smartphone screen is off, it is hit or miss - sometimes they will hear my LINE call as normal and other times (even with sound or vibrate ON) they could have their phone right next to them but nothing will happen.

I have tested and both of us will have good phone signal.

I have contacted LINE customer support but am frustrated with the seemingly stock response, so am reaching out to you ASEAN NOW guys in hope you can help me!

    Cheers.

  3. Thank you all for your replies. I forgot to include that after the 2 minutes of the ATM locking up and transaction timing out, my card was finally returned to me by the ATM. (I have now edited my original post)

During that time, it just had the loading screen.

Re: the ATM, it was one out of a few ATMs inside a supermarket building.

I will speak to my bank about this to check everything is as it should be.

    Thanks again

  4. Hi all

Just wondering if I have been the victim of some kind of card skimming trick, or if this was an ATM error.

I went to get cash, had inserted my pin and selected the amount of cash I needed. The ATM then froze for around 2 minutes, before eventually displaying a message that transaction had timed out. Whilst it froze I pressed cancel many times but nothing happened.

Just a slow machine, or some kind of fraud?

    Cheers.

EDIT: After the 2 minutes and time out my card was given back to me from the ATM.

Often can't even connect (from the UK using wifi) on video when the Thai mobile I'm calling is using mobile data. Swapping over to voice only is usually successful when that happens.

Never had a problem when the Thai mobile is on Wifi.

    Interesting @KhaoYai

If I use mobile data in Thailand to call Thai friends who are also using mobile data, 9 times out of 10 the signal is crystal clear with no issues.

However if I use mobile data to call someone using wifi in the UK, the signal will cut off regularly.

  6. I have an excellent internet connection here in Bangkok, as do my relatives back in the UK.

However when we voice call/video call using various popular apps (that I won't name due to libel laws) the signal will regularly cut off for about 10 to 20 seconds at a time, and we cannot hear each other at all.

When using these apps to call other friends in Bangkok, it hardly ever cuts out.

    Two questions:

1 . What is your experience of voice/video calling family and friends back home?

    2. Can distance affect signal quality/strength?

I’m quite certain if you or someone dear to you was incarcerated in a Thai prison you’d start caring about the humane treatment of prisoners.

I am a law abiding citizen and so are those that I associate with.

Why should evil, callous criminals be given rights? What about the rights of the victims whose lives these criminals destroyed?

  8. If (heaven forbid) someone violently assaulted, and killed someone dear to you...

Would you still care that they might not be able to wear a mask or have their own space in prison?

Victims of murdered people/crime in general also had/have families and loved ones.

  9. Hi,

From what I have read on the gov.uk website, Britons going back to the UK from Thailand currently need to self isolate for 10 days in accordance with amber list rules.

Can anyone clear this up for me, it seems that either:

    A. Only Britons entering the UK from am amber list country who have been vaccinated by the NHS in the UK can skip self isolation, provided they have a Day 2 negative test result.

    B. Only Britons coming from Europe or the USA and with an approved vaccine set given over 14 days ago, can skip self isolation if coming from an amber country and having a negative Day 2 test.

    So...

If a Briton has been double jabbed with Astrazeneca in Thailand, as it is outside of the EU and the US we would still need to self isolate for 10 days in the UK, DESPITE having received both Astrazeneca jabs?

    Thank you all.

Really?  How do you know that, were you on the same train as the OP (who hasn't been back since he started the thread)?  If you were on that train, how come you didn't mention it in your first post on this thread where it would have been very relevant?   Where did the OP's "breakdown" occur, what time of day?

    Afternoon, around Siam

  11. Anyone had this rather bemusing experience here in the LOS?

Earlier today the cashier at the supermarket had taken my money and waited for the till to open. However 2 minutes later it never opened so I was taken to another till.

Didn't want my money lol! (Jokes aside, this has happened to me many times in Thailand but never in Europe)

  12. The BTS broke down earlier and there was a long disruption. As a passenger, it is very frustrating especially during COVID.

What are the reasons the skytrain breaks down for so long? (Genuinely curious as I have zero engineering knowhow)

  13. I have tried calling the number that my network provider gives *137#, and cancelled SMS adverts multiple times.

However I keep getting spam with a short message in Thai, followed by a bit.ly link to "claim money".

I am very careful to not give my mobile number out to advertisers or companies.

    2 questions:

    1. Why do I still get the SMS spam even after calling my provider to cancel the SMS spam many times?

    2. Where are these spammers getting my phone number from, and don't they have anything better to do with their life?

    Cheers.

Anyway I'm not at liberty to share the FMECA for any of the multitude of systems that make up a modern metro system.

I'm quite sure your Googling skills will find you something interesting to look at.

You are the one insulting my intelligence with your passive aggressive comment in the first place Crossy. Let's agree to disagree!

  15. Woke up this morning with my oven clock wrong which is a good indicator that there was another powercut last night.

Why are there so many powercuts recently? I understand sometimes lightning hits the generator but as far as I know last night there was only rain.

  16. I normally wait a couple of minutes max at the platform during rush hour, but just had to wait about 10 minutes. I looked down the track and the train was not even at the station before the station I got on at yet.

This got me thinking, what are some reasons the BTS Skytrain is delayed and breaks down?

Sadly some people fall sick occasionally which is totally natural, but mechanically how can a skytrain that simply runs on electricity break down? (I am genuinely curious here, not trolling).
