  1. My understanding is that if you leave the country without a re-entry permit, then you definitely need a fresh TM30 because you're equivalent to someone who just arrived for the first time.

If you had a re-entry permit, and did not change your address, then I would have supposed your existing TM30 would have been sufficient.

Did you have a re-entry permit?

I understand its a bit of an -Out of the Box idea--but have you ever thought of just asking your neighbors where they brought them from ................:coffee1:

They're neighbors across the way, in a building opposite mine, so I have no contact with them.

  3. I see that some of my neighbors in Jomtien have pull-down sun shades on their balconies (see photo below). Pretty cool. Can anyone recommend a good contractor who can install these? Approximately what would it cost to install a single pull-down shade?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

  4. I'd like to install high quality screen doors on my condo balcony. Something like those pictured below. Does anyone know of a good contractor, serving Jomtien, who can do this? Approximately how much would it cost?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Go to Luang Prabang. That's what I used to do when I lived there. Days are warm, nights cool.

Be certain not to return until it's entirely over so... ten days after last official day or weekend holdover. Idiot children still mucking about

    That's in Laos, right?

  7. Until recently I was on an O-A retirement visa and usually filed my 90 day reports online.

Last week I did a round-trip to Cambodia, without a re-entry permit. I'm now in Thailand as a tourist with a 30 day stamp in my passport. I'm in the process of applying for a Non-O visa.

I just got an email to file my next 90 day report. But as of now I'm a tourist, so does this even apply? Should I ignore it? If not, what's the correct way to deal with it?

  8. I will be flying to Phnom Penh, departing Suvarnabhumi Airport at 09:45, on Sky Angkor. My ticket seller, Trip.com, advises:

"We make the suggestion to arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport at least 3hr prior to departure to ensure you have enough time to check in."

Is this good advice, or is 3 hours overkill? What are other travelers' experiences?

The way that is written implies that you have a valid Non O-A.

    You need to clarify that.

You need to exit and reenter AFTER it has expired.

From visa exempt entry, yes you can obtain a non O retirement and subsequent extension.

However Jomitien is a rogue office and currently requiring funds in bank for 2 months prior to application for the non O.

In reality it's only required on day of application.

My understanding is that if I stay past my visa expiration, even 1 day, I'm violating the rules. That's why I'm planning the border run before it expires.

As noted in my edited note, money in the bank is not a problem for me.

  10. My O-A retirement visa expires in less than a month. My plan is to do a border run to Cambodia, using a professional border run service, and return as a visa-exempt tourist. I will then apply for an O-visa.

Has anyone used this method, and did it work for you?

    More details:

    I do NOT have a re-entry permit.

I'm in the Pattaya area and use the Immigration office in Jomtien.

I've had over 800k Baht in a Thai bank for a couple of years.

    You may have an issue.

Recently there was report of Jomitien requiring 2 month seasoning for funds to apply for non O from visa exempt or tourist visa entry.

That is not correct however nothing new with that office.

Perhaps you have had 800k+ in the account so not an issue.

It's only Jomitien that is playing this game.

As noted, I've had 800k+ in the account for at least 2 years. So I should be okay, right?

OP, obviously you plan to exit Thailand without a reentry permit to kill off the non O-A and reenter visa exempt.

To obtain a non O retirement you need to show the funds (800k) came from o/s.

Usually if you can show the funds have been in Thailand for some time then that is not required.

    Which immigration will you use.

Yes, I plan to do a border run to Cambodia and return visa exempt. I've had 800kB in a Thai bank for at least a couple of years. I'll be using Jomtien Immigration.

By the way, what are "OP" and "o/s"?

No mention of any need for health insurance in the official list of requirements for non-O conversions for retirement, you'll doubtless be relieved to hear:

Just be aware, though, that, if your local office is Jomtien and you plan on using the 800k minimum bank balance method as per item 7, they will require this to be seasoned for at least 2 months as in the case of a regular annual retirement extension.

And, if your office is Chiang Mai, they will require your application to be submitted no later than 21 days before your latest permission to stay granted following a border run expires (rather than 15 days as stated in the heading).

Thanks for the link. Very helpful.
