  1. @Andrew Dwyer You state: "No I didn’t, I did it to avoid the mandatory health insurance from an OA extension." When you enter Thailand on an O visa (not 0A) are you required to show any proof of health insurance? If so, what kind do you have? And how costly is it?

I ask because I'm thinking of doing what you did, that is, switching to an O visa from OA, and I'm trying to determine if it will cut my costs.

  2. Thai friends who've contracted Covid-19 recently tell me that they've gone to the hospital and, if their symptoms were moderate, they were advised to go home and self-isolate for a week.

Does the same practice currently apply to resident foreigners (not tourists)?  In the past resident foreigners were required to stay in the hospital for a couple of weeks, at their own expense, even with mild-to-no symptoms. Is that policy still in force, or not?

  3. Several weeks ago, I believe, it was announced that there would be check points on the roads leading into and out of Bangkok, Chon Buri, etc., as these are "deep red" zones.

As of now, on 2021-08-25, does anyone know if these checkpoints are in place? A friend of mine is thinking of coming from Bangkok to Pattaya for a visit, and I would not want her busted at a checkpoint.

  4. I live in a condo in Jomtien. With mosquito season upon us I am considering having a screen door installed outside my regular front door. The regular front door opens inward and the screen door would open outward. I'd like the screen door to have some metal bars across it, and a lock, so that it's secure, but otherwise nothing fancy. Does anyone know of reliable contractors in the Jomtien or Pattaya area who could install such a door, and roughly what it would cost?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

  5. Last week I went to Chonburi Immigration and got an up to date list of the documents required to extend an O-A visa. Today I returned with my documents in perfect order.

The clerk processed my documents and, when finished, asked me to verify my bank balance as of my visa renewal **last year**. My bank book had become full since that date, and my new bank book does not cover that date. I told him the following:

"I extended my visa last year, so my bank balance must have been adequate on that date. I then filed a 90 day bank balance report so my bank balance must have been adequate for 90 days after that date. So, what's the problem?"

He replied that his boss wanted a statement from my bank certifying my bank balance as of last year's visa extension date, and a copy of my passbook from that time period.

Then he also mentioned something about my bank balance not being allowed to fall below 400,000 baht. "So do you need a full year's transactions?" I asked.

He was in an enormous rush, and already working on someone else's paperwork, and just mumbled something about last year's renewal date.

At this point I'm not sure exactly what I'm supposed to submit. I'm thinking of asking my bank for a 13 month transaction record; a certified copy of my old bankbook; and a letter stating my bank balance as of my visa renewal last year. None of these, of course, on the official list of required documents.

Has anyone else experienced this nonsense?
